Ford Freestyle owners have reported 9 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Freestyle based on all problems reported for the Freestyle.
The driver side passenger door seal is faulty, letting water get into the door causing it to freeze and rust. The electrical for the driver heated seat keeps malfunctioning causing it to keep breaking. The levers that flip the second and third row seating have become faulty and will no longer work. Lastly, the all-wheel drive component on my vehicle stopped working while I was driving. It was during the winter and the roads were icy so it caused me to have less traction and fish tail.

I folded down the second row 2/3 seat to vacuum my seats and the seat belt locked and the seat won't go back up. Ewald in hartford said they would fix it and then changed their mind. There's a warning sticker saying no one should sit in the third row while the seat in front is folded. I'm still going to have to put my kids in the third row. I have 3 kids. Ewald said it would be $600 some to fix it and I don't think I should be responsible. I know it's an older car but it's not like I have ever folded the seat down before where it would wear out. I fold the second row 1/3 seat down all the time to let someone in the back. I believe this is a safety issue that Ford should recall or the ewald dealership should take care of.

Second row bench won't recline back upright because seat belt mechanism stuck and preventing upright position. Difficult to fasten child's seat belt next to the bench that won't go upright - very unsafe. Contacted Ford and they said there isn't any recall for seat belt and/or second row's already known problem. They said to pay for these exact problems others have already posted on many websites.
The first incident my fuel gauge is off & producing incorrect data of gas remaining in car & driver window would roll up and down when trying to just roll it up. I took the car back to the dealership they did not fix the issue. Another incident I was on the highway and the stalled while driving. Third incident I was at a stop light with my 5 year old daughter in the car, all of a sudden the car made a loud revving up noise then shot us forward into oncoming traffic. I was barely able to back up before the cars reached us. Another time I was driving with my daughter taking her to daycare then going to work and we were going through a school zone. We stopped at a stop sign and there was a family with 3 children crossing and the car shot us forward again and we almost hit the family. Several times when picking up my daughter I would put the car in reverse and my foot was on the brake pedal still all of a sudden the car shot us back into the cars behind us. This car is very unsafe. I fear for the safety of others and my daughters and my life when getting into this car. Ford should recall this vehicle and replace it with a new car. People shouldn't be at risk for this.
The car started showing hesitation when accelerating and making a strange noise early in 2010. This condition got progressively worse until one day, while driving on the freeway, the engine would not respond to the gas pedal being depressed, the wrench light came on, and I was forced to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for a few minutes and when I attempoted to restart it, the gas pedal seemed to be working again. Took the car to jones Ford the next day and they told me the throttle body was bad and replaced it to the tune of $638. 97. Date of service was April 1, 2020. Mileage at time of failure was 61,540 everything seemed fine for a few months but I started noticing the hesitation on acceleration again. Took it to summerville Ford on July 21, 2010. I didn't wait for a complete failure since it was extremely dangerous to lose power on the freeway with a whole car load of kids! jones Ford said the throttle body was bad again and replaced it under warranty this time. Checked for codes and got code #u0141. Mileage at time of replacement was 65,207. Within the last couple of weeks I have noticed similar conditions to the last two times the throttle body failed. Yesterday I was parking and the car surged forward as I let my foot of the brake, almost causing me to hit the car in the spot in front of me. I have no choice but to keep driving it until something is done by Ford about this dangerous condition. I was also told that the motor mount needs to be replaced. I also have repalced the 2/3 row seat pivot once during warranty but it failed again in 2010 and I haven't been able to afford to replace it. The a/c compressor stopped working this summer. Still not fixed. I have replaced my tires twice in seven years. I have replaced both sets of brakes. Ford needs t address these common failures. Before someone gets hurt!.
The seat locks in place s o that it cannot be raised. Therefore, no one can sit in the third row of seats.
We own a 2007 Ford Freestyle. When we come to a stop, for instance at a traffic light, the engine will rev up and the vehicle will lurch forward. This often causes the vehicle to then stall. This happens all the time if we are running the air conditioner. Now we shut the air conditioner off while driving in town. We have avoided any incidents so far. Although many times have had to apply extreme pressure to the brakes to keep from lurching into a vehicle in front of us. The vehicle will still lurch, but so far we have been able to stop it in time. As I said before the pressure we have to apply to the brakes is extreme. This also will happen when backing up. The engine will rev up and then die.
