3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The transmission slips when accelerating and violently lurches the car forward. This is extremely unsafe and there's no reason why the transmission should be replaced. I am not the only one who experiences this, there are tons of reports of individuals with the same issues with their 2006 Ford Fusions.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

There's a blatant transmission safety concern for all 2006 Ford Fusions. According to multiple websites with forums, hundreds of people have been experiencing transmission concerns. The issue is when accelerating, the car slips out of gear and violently lurches forward and no longer accelerates, creating an extreme safety hazard especially on the highway. The only way, at least for me, to get it back into gear is to completely stop accelerating for a few seconds and then try accelerating again. This is absolutely a safety hazard on the highway and street driving. No mechanics or Ford mechanics have been able to fix this issue, only recommend that the transmission be replaced, which is not an ideal repair, especially when this is happening as soon as 50,000 miles have been put on the car. I'm scared to drive my car, especially on the highway because my acceleration is limited and this could happen at any time. This has been happening to my car since it hit 50,000 and there's no way I can afford a new transmission, nor should I have to replace it since this has happened in multiple 2006 Ford Fusions. This issue has also happened to my driving around town. There are many reports on https://repairpal. . Read more...

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

There is a recall on airbags and every time I call my Ford dealership they tell me they don't have the part to do the recall repair. Also recently my door handle had broke leaving it unable to lock. I work at a bar so I leave late hours I was very scared by a gentleman hanging around so I got in my car to lock the doors only to break my handle and find out this happens a lot and when the mechanism breaks the locks no longer work.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

The exterior paint chips of in 2" diameter. Also when I took car for the airbag recall on 9/15/2018, it drove good to coccia Ford. It drove ok back to house after installation of new airbags. A few hours later after we had parked the car, we got call to go and pick up my hubby's medicine from walgreen, so we did. When rick got back to car, I tried to start it up. It bucked, made noise and I felt like I was riding a mechanical bull. I had pulled out about 3 feet, so I had to pull back up. I called my best friend's boyfriend who came and said he thought the car did this because timing chain broke and possibly did engine damage from sitting for 2 1/2 months while we drove a rental for same 2 1/2 months. Both my husband and I are disabled. . . He is in process of seeing a neurosurgeon dr. Deluna about his spinal cord stimulator and battery pack possible removal due to pain. We changed the oil in the car rabout 2 weeks before we had to park it, we had fixed the right headlight at same time and the car was inspected at same time. Car was in great shape when we parked it for the 2 1/2 months, and now I have no car for his appts. We are trying to get it fixed but I am not sure. How. It really wiped us out worrying about how we are gonna get through this. On top of that the paint chips off in chunks and both front door handles are broken. This is the crappiest car I have ever had. Not to mention that the motor mounts might also have caused the problem. They are terrible and in terrible shape now. I feel like this car is nothing but a death trap. If when I was looking for a car I had know what all was wrong with the 2006 Ford Fusion and the air bags recall, I would never have bought this car.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2018

Takata recall. Ford has authorized me for a loaner/rental, but has been dragging their feet for over a week. I need my car to work and they're endangering my life.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2017

Has there been any complaints on the door handles breaking? I just had to have the drivers replaced. It broke would not open from the inside and would not lock. The back seat handles are about to break. Need some feedback on this. It is not cheap to fix the handles.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2017

2006 Ford Fusion driver side (front left) door handle is plastic and breaks off at the gear ratchet cog leaving the driver unable to open door except from outside the auto. Poor material and design of the handle is a trouble spot that many Fusion owners are experiencing. This should be a major item to have a recall in effect. Please investigate this item and is in almost all year Fusions.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2017

Now months after first receiving my recall notice to contact my local Ford dealership (which I did at that time) I still cannot get an appointment for the part replacement of the airbag inflator. I realize the situation of the inflator manufacturer being overrun with the replacement orders, but our need still exists as customers for the safety of our families. Ford has an ethical and fiduciary responsibility to its customers in this. What can you do to assist we customers left with potential harm to our families? thank-you.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

Rear driver's side interior door handle has failed. Cannot open door from the inside, rear door ajar light comes on and dome light will come on and stay on. The latter two issues are sporadic. Vehicle is stopped when trying to open the door. Vehicle is running when light may come on. Dome light says on when parked.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

For at least two years now I been getting recall letters and no parts are available and if this is a recall for safety for my airbag and they have not been able to resolve the problem then they need to be held responsible for the issue. I had purchased this car new and was the only owner with low miles for years on the car. I also had a problem with the power steering box some switch that controlled the pump kept leaking and leaking and I replaced it at least once a year and it was a manufacturing part of Ford as I only serviced my car there.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

When driving the wrench light comes on and the car looses power. I can't accelerate. If I pull off the road and turn off the car and turn it back on it fixes it. Sometimes the check engine light comes on after that.

I am unable to have this repaired as I am retired and on a low income.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

Airbags did not deploy during car accident. Airbags recalled by takata are far more dangerous, basically dead airbags. The vehicle was in motion, another recall with the carpets being recalled as well, resulting in excessive speed from the carpet pressing on the gas peddle, causing the accident.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

The dashboard is bulging/buckling against the passenger side airbag. The bubble appears to be caused by the dash material surrounding the airbag becoming detached or unglued. The position of this bulging and separation cause concern that the airbag may malfunction upon deployment.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

My brake lights and rear blinkers are no longer working. One day they just went out. Of course I took it to my mechanic right away since it is extremely dangerous driving at night with no brake lights and I had recently enrolled into night classes for my fall semester. I left my car with my mechanic for nearly a week because he thought the switch needed to be replaced. He ordered a new one, but when it arrived he called to tell me that it wasn't what he thought it was. He let me keep the new switch free of charge since he wasn't able to help me at all. I had to walk to the shop to pick up my car because my mechanic was just as baffled as I was. Since someone who went to school for this kind of stuff couldn't help me, I figured I would google the issue to see if there were any answers out there. I found websites full of people having similar issues. . Read more...

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

Was driving down a busy highway when the car just chugged and died. The tool light came on after it failed to go by giving it gas. This is the second time this has happened to my car. I took it to my Ford dealership and it turned out to be the throttle body. I am very upset and being a women I had no idea how to handle this situation when it happened. It has cost alot of money to replace and it is very dangerous. Is there a recall on this part ? if so I would like to know about it.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2014

When I was driving 55 mph, the car did a little jerk like it had missed. No lights came on and I drove to the nearest side road off the highway and stopped. I tried to go further but only made it about 100 yards because I lost all power including steering. My car was half in the road so I was thankful this was not a high traffic road. The engine light came on and there was a smell. It wasn't the smell of oil but was a fluid smell. The car would not turn over and had to be towed to the dealership. It came up as a misfire 3 and they told me that they had to replace the coil. This did not fix the problem and they said the 3 coil when it blew it took out the other coils as well as the 6 spark plugs and the pcm. This was a $2250 repair. I only have 68,000 on the car. After reading other TSB, some stated that if under 80,000 miles/8 years that it was covered under the manufacture warranty. I called Ford and was told I missed the 8 year mark by exactly 30 days. There was nothing that I could do but hold on to my receipts in case there would ever be a recall. This is the only major issue I have had. I have never had any other engine issues with the car. I've only had 2 minor issues before this and they were the lumbar going out in the driver's seat ($300 repair that I did not replace) and 2 door handles breaking from the inside that were $160 to replace each. I did replace bc of the safety issue of not being able to get out of the car. After reading the TSB, I see that the pcm and coils are a reoccurring issue and I am thankful I was on a side road when it occurred. . . I am very worried that it may occur again and hope this issues will be or has been looked into for the safety of others.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

I am the original owner of a 2006 Ford Fusion with only 65000 miles. I recently had a very scary near death experience due to a defect in this vehicle. After much research online and speaking to certified mechanics I am sure Ford is well aware of the problem that exists with the ignition coils exploding due to a computer malfunction. This causes the car to stop. My car happened to stop while I was on the freeway. I won't go into a lot of detail but it was scary and could have potentially cost me my life. Fortunately I was able to safely coast to the shoulder and wait for aaa to come to my rescue. I took my car to a mechanic who got the car running again after replacing two ignition coils and my spark plugs, but it broke down again on the way home from the mechanic. Again, the car just shuts off without warning, but this time I was left in the middle of traffic waiting for aaa. My car is now at the Ford dealership and the bill is really high. Both, my mechanic and the Ford service technician confirmed that there is an issue with the computer that is causing ignition coils to "burn up" or "explode". I understand that there is an 8 year or 80,000 mile warranty with covers this issue, but unfortunately I am over the 8 years (but still 15,000 under the mileage). This should be a recall. Someone could potentially lose their life because Ford chooses to overlook this ticking time bomb. I am now having to spend $2200 to repair this issue when Ford should be the one covering the cost to make it right.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The dashboard is separating from the passenger air bag area and seems to be stretched by something, unsure as to cause as nothing is apparent. Also the front left defroster air vent near the windshield started to detach from the dashboard as if it was under spring pressure to do so. The local dealer says there is no fix for this to his knowledge , except to replace the entire dashboard. The dashboard does not appear to be made of material that stands up to uv lighting as to wear and now appears to be either poor quality materials or was factory installed improperly.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

Ignition key is stuck in the ignition hole and cannot be removed.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The dashboard on the passenger side near the airbag is bulging up. I'm concerned this could cause the airbag to deploy. This is a major safety concern.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

2006 Ford Fusion key will not come out of ignition; gear shift does not go into park even though it looks as though it has.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Motor mounts: all three mounts have been replaced. 6 total. One has been replaced twice. One three times. Electric door locks & window regulators: front driver and rear right passenger have failed. Driver floor mat: slides.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

The right rear door handle snapped when my 3 yr old grandbaby tried to open door. As time has gone on, the left rear door handle snapped. That was followed by the drivers door handle snapping. I now have to crawl to the passenger side to get out. Used to be able to pull the lock feature to open it, but, can no longer do that. I've seen a million complaints about these handles. In case of emergency, one cannot get out of the car. This could easily result in death that could easily be avoided by exiting the vehicle. I also have the additional problem of limited use of my leg due to major surgery and weakness from my chemo meds. I feel like a sitting duck. Why is this being ignored? I really like Ford vehicles, but, shame on Ford!!!!.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2007

Takata recalled airbag.
