36 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

At the end of an interstate on ramp, the Ford Fusion clunked, stalled, and the wrench light came on. It was in a very dangerous place. Lots of honking that I could do nothing about. After turning the car off and back on a couple of times, I was able to get it to a less dangerous place. Towed it to the Ford garage where they replaced the throttle body.

37 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

We were driving approximately 65 mph when the car suddenly started to decelerate at a rapid pace and eventually stalled. We noticed a wrench light on the dashboard as we pulled the car over. After restarting the car we were able to drive a couple of miles before the same thing would occur. After a couple more times of having to pull over and restart the car the check engine light also came on. Thankfully we were able to get to a family members house as we were approx 90 miles from home. The code we pulled from the car was p2111. . . . . Indicative of this infamous throttle body problem in this make and model. We ended up having to get towed to the nearest dealership 35 miles away. . . . . Yet another 35 from our home. Thankfully this was covered under our extended warranty plan from Ford. A coworker of mine had the exact same issue about 6 months ago. . . . Same make/model/year. Luckily the highway we were on wasn't busy at the time the car stalled repeatedly. I don't see how this can't be a recall. . . . . .

38 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2013

I was approximately 2 miles from my starting point traveling at a speed of 55 mph. Suddenly, the 2010 Ford Fusion lurched while shifting into overdrive. When it lurched all ability to accelerate was lost. With cars on each side, I had no ability to accelerate; I lost speed quickly and worked my way to the side of the road (very dangerous situation). I immediately noticed the ¿wrench symbol warning light on the dashboard, but did not know what that warning signified. During the loss of acceleration, the car did not lose power steering and it remained running, but the engine was sputtering and not idling at a steady pace. When I got to the side of the road, I put the car in park and tried to ¿rev up the engine, but I had absolutely no control of the throttle. The wrench light was still on. I then turned off the ignition and waited about 1 minute then restarted. The car again had no acceleration ability and sputtered which sounded very much like a cough. I turned the car off again and called for assistance. Approximately 5 minutes later, when assistance arrived, I started the car again. At this time, the wrench warning light was off and the car appeared to idle normally. Upon research, I found that the wrench symbol means: throttle control/transmission problem. The driver of the car should contact the authorized dealer for service as soon as possible.

39 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

The throttle body on my 2010 Ford Fusion se failed. My car lost power and stalled out four times while driving in traffic. I have replaced the part and would certainly like to see Ford recall this part.

40 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Pe13-003 my 2009-2011 Ford escape, Fusion, mariner and milan electronic throttle body malfunction 21-Feb-2013 my 2010 Ford Fusion 4 cylinder has malfunctioned twice in two days with sudden power loss and the wrench icon of the gauge cluster. Each time, the engine would drop to 800 rpm and crawl at less then 20 mph. The first incident was near hunt auto as leaving a 4-way stop on Sunday with near 90 degree heat. The second was Monday while on I-65 n near millersville at 68 mph. Scary. Both times I had to pull over, inspect the idle behavior, turn the car off, wait 30 seconds then turn-on again fine with normal behavior. After research, this appears to be under investigation by the NHTSA since Feb 2013 as likely throttle body issues of this engine type. . Read more...

41 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Driving southbound on georgia 400 in center right and car engine stops. Pushed gas pedal a few times, but car would not respond and slowed down quickly. Was heading uphill just south of the chatahoochee river. Electrical was working as radio remained on and I was able to apply hazard lights and coast to the shoulder. Placed card in park and turned ignition off. Immediately turned ignition on and car started. Was able to drive car to destination with no issue. I paid Ford dealership to replace throttle body and motor assembly.

42 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

Driving on a busy interstate highway when suddenly my car looses power and goes into limp mode. Absolutely no throttle response. Wrench light indicator came on. I pulled over to the side of the road and my car shuttered a bit as I slowed down. Turned the car off and waited a minute before restarting. Restarted sluggishly. Began driving again and no more than 5 minutes later, the same thing happened. This time the check engine light came on. Once again, turned car off, restarted and began driving again. Made it into a local brake/muffler shop where they were kind enough to diagnose the problem for me. Error code p2112 came over with a description about the throttle body actuator being stuck closed. They informed me they've seen this problem many times and it seems to be a common issue. It made sense to me because, leading up to this event, I had been experiencing a lagging throttle. It has happened to me twice more since this initial occurrence.

43 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Driving in far left lane at highway speed. The car had been on for about 10 minutes after sitting in parking lot all day. It was 96 degrees. Car started to vibrate and slow down. I noticed that the tool light was on. Obviously I had entered into limp mode and found a way to cross four lanes of rush hour traffic to make it to the emergency lane. Once stopped engine loped erratically and would not accelerate. Engine was non-responsive to pedal changes. Put car in park and shut the engine off. I waited 30 seconds and started the car again and drove home (26 miles) without further incident. It should be noted that I have experienced surging in the engine this past week. Symptoms point to the throttle body; but this is speculation as I have not had the car diagnosed by a professional. I am aware that there is a current investigation into this matter. This event happened at highway speeds and could have been disastrous. Driving can be inherently dangerous and parts do break; but, the fact that this has been a known issue for quite some time warrants an additional report.

44 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

Car suddenly without any warning loses all power. Faulty electronic throttle control.

45 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

After accelerating away from a stop-sign the engine abruptly began to run exceedingly poorly, and lost nearly all power. I was unable to accelerate or maintain speed. After pulling onto the shoulder and stopping I was able to restart the car, but attempts to drive it would result in stalling at about 5mph. After about perhaps 50 feet. The car was subsequently towed to the dealership where the throttle-body was replaced at my cost.

46 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

Fuel inlet error on dash. . Transmission shifts hard when pulling out.

47 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Throttle body quit working while driving at 65 mph. Engine dropped to idle and would not respond to accelerator pedal. Wrench light came on at instrument panel. Coasted across 5 lanes of high speed traffic to reach the road shoulder. After turning off the car and turning it back on the throttle started working again. Dealer says that there is a nationwide back order for the replacement throttle body to fix this problem but there is no recall active.

48 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

While driving my car lost all acceleration. The wrench light came on and the check engine light came on. I had to quickly pull over to avoid traffic coming up from behind me. I sat on the side of the road turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes before turning it back on. This reset the gauges and I could begin driving home (less than a mile away). On the way home it happened again. Called my Ford dealership, veterans Ford in tampa, FL. I spoke with a service advisor named [xxx], who through my description of the symptoms said that it is the throttle body. They had just fixed three Fusions that very day with the same problem. He said it is a know issue with the 2010 Fusion model and they fix many of these. Seems to me that Ford should realize their is a wide spread issue with this part and it is unsafe. This should be a recalled part in my opinion as it is now going to cost me between 400-700 dollars to repair. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

49 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

I was going down the freeway at approximately 65 mph, and out of nowhere my car lost power and began to decrease speed. I tried to press the accelerator and there was no response. I pulled to the side of the road and put the car in park and it was very rough idling. I turned off the car, waited a few seconds and turned the car back on and it seemed fine. Now this has happened to me at least 20 times in the last few months, at random times and speeds. The scariest one for me was in a very busy intersection and my car did this 4 times trying to get through the intersection. I would really like to see this get fixed as soon as possible before someone really does get hurt.

50 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

This is a complaint for an issue that has an existing preliminary evaluation - NHTSA pe13003. I purchased a 2010 Ford Fusion sel in July 2010. It was purchased new. In may of 2013, while driving on city streets with my 3 year old daughter, my vehicle appeared to stall as I was turning at a traffic light. While the vehicle was still powered, my ability to control the vehicle or accelerate to speeds over 5 mph was instantly removed. I was able to limp to the side of the road and restart the car, which drove normally until the next day when I was driving across town to meet the person providing me a ride to and from the Ford dealership. Over the course of an hour, my vehicle exhibited the same symptoms 4 separate times while trying to get to a Ford dealership. The dealership reported to me the next ay that I would have to have the throttle body replaced, at a cost of $486. None of the cost would be covered under warranty, and that I would be advised to have the work done immediately as the necessary replacement part was in shortage nationwide, and the dealership only had 1 on hand. I had the part replaced, and the vehicle has functioned normally since.

51 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2013

Wife was driving down 4 lane highway when car stalled and died due to bad throttle body. Cars behind her had to change lanes, one truck had to slam on brakes. The red wrench light came on. I've heard other complaints on the very same issue with nothing being done. I'm reporting now because I've got another issue with the driver side axle leak. Also another issue I've seen multiple reports on. I bought extended warranty but have been out $200 for deductible. These are issues that Ford needs to step up and make recalls. The bad thing is I've had to wait for the parts both times because its such a bad issue that everything is on backorder. Please get these things taken care of before someone gets seriously hurt. My wife was very close to getting hit by a big truck. I think people that have been out money for these things should also get refunded. There needs to be a recall on both issues. Thank you. .

52 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

I was on the freeway when the 2010 Ford Fusion lost power, began to shudder and the wrench light illuminated on the instrument cluster. Luckily I was able to get to the side of the road before the vehicle died. I had the vehicle towed to a Ford dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a bad throttle body. After doing some very basic research on the internet I found that this is a huge problem and it isn't be covered under a recall or the powertrain warranty. I think that Ford should be, at least, helping consumers cover the cost of this replacement.

53 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

Driving at 70 mph, lost power, check engine light came on and the wrench icon on dash also lit up. Coasted to stop and it ran very rough but wouldn't move. If you turned it off and restarted it, it would run for a couple of miles and then it would happen again. Diagnostic code 2111 showed meaning throttle body malfunction. The Ford dealer,[xxx] (tampa) reported that Ford is having widespread throttle body malfunctions on the 2010, 2011 and 2012 2. 5 liter cars. They didn't have the part in stock and they told me it was on back order and they didn't know when to expect it. They said Ford has ordered it's supplier to make at least 1,000 replacement throttle bodies to address this problem apparently for cars still under warranty. . I'm reading that the Ford escapes are having this type of problem. Too. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

54 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while accelerating from a light, the vehicle would accelerate beyond 2 mph. The contact felt the vehicle was not getting the proper flow of gasoline to the engine. The first time the failure occurred, the dealer rewired the engine but the repair did not correct the failure. The contact had not taken the vehicle back to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 60,000.

55 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2013

Throttle body! I have been having issues for a while now. Started with the check fuel inlet cap light coming on. Fyi, I have not fuel cap for this car. Had it checked, thought it was a sensor problem. Then the check engine light came one. Then the issues started taking place. Had a few incidents where I would be going down the interstate at 70 miles per hour and the wrench light would come on in the car and it would completely lose any throttle control. I would have to pull over to side, car would still be running, but once stopped would shake and sputter, I would turn it off and then it would fire right back up. Sometimes this would take place maybe 3 times back to back and then would not do it anymore. I kept being told, when it happens bring it in. . . . That is easier said than done. It is happening more often and now at lower speeds and as of last week, as I was pulling out of my driveway. Now it is parked, can't go 2 miles without it shutting off. I have found out that it is the throttle body and it seems that many other are having the same issues, yet this has not been recalled. Ford is telling me the part is back ordered, and that I may have to wait a month for it to come in. I work and have two kids and now Ford would like for me to wait to get it fixed. Fyi. . . . . A rental cal is about $700 for a month! unacceptable! and I owe too much on it to be worth my while to trade it in. Frustrated beyond belief!.

56 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2012

My wife was driving with my niece at approximately 45 mph, when the vehicle lost power and started to spit and sputter, then the "wrench" light illuminated as well as the check engine light. Luckily she was able to pull off the road with no harm or damage, when I checked for a dtc it pointed to the throttle body, $200 dollars for the part, Ford should have replaced this for me, especially since there is a TSB for this issue.

57 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

At highway speed, there was a controlled loss of power to the engine. Upon shutting down and restarting, the problem cleared but recurred. The vehicle was serviced and the electronic throttle body was replaced.

58 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2012

While driving on the interstate, the wrench light came on and the car became unresponsive to acceleration. I had to turn on the hazards and coast to the shoulder. The car was able to be restarted and drove fine for another 30 minutes before the same thing happened again. 2 days later the same thing happened on the interstate again, requiring me to coast to the shoulder of the road! today it happened while I was only going 45 mph and happened three times in 10 miles. When I got home I immediately began researching other Ford Fusion problems and found this to be a common occurrence. We tested the chip of the car and got a code of p2112, indicating the throttle body was malfunctioning. This comes behind an electrical problem requiring a new battery after 50,000 miles, a plastic piece breaking off the sunroof and needing to be replaced at 40,000 miles, and the sunglasses spring breaking at 35,000 miles! this is the second Ford I have owned and we were thrilled with our Ford five hundred, but the Fusion seems to have more problems than it has good qualities! Ford really needs to find a fix for their throttle problem before one of us is injured or killed while we coast to safety on the interstate in a malfunctioning car!.

59 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I was sitting at a red light when the light turned green and I put on the gas the car jumped. The engine light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road. The car had no acceleration but still had power. I turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. The car started back up and the light went off. I took the car to a auto repair shop. The diagnostic test stated it is the throttle body going bad. The mechanic cleaned this part good and the sensors. The car has run fine for about three weeks with out any problems until 06/11/12 then it started again it has done it four times since and the engine light will not go off. I have used high test gas in it.

60 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I am guessing at the "component selection" above. I was driving 30 mph in a neighborhood; car pitched or lunged forward; wrench light came on panel; rpm's dropped; car slowed down and pressing gas pedal did no good; car was still running; car coasted to a stop. Waited for help to come. Restarted car, it went about 1/2 mile and did the same thing; took to dealership. They checked it out and could not replicate the problem and returned it to me; within ten minutes and 5 miles, it happened again in the same sequence as described above except I was going 50 mph on a busy hilly two lane state highway. Took it back to dealership they said it was the throttle body or throttle rail. I am scared to drive it once, or if, it is repaired; still haven't received car back and parts on back order! internet search lead me to numerous occurrences exactly like mine and some were temporary fix that led to other problems with the throttle and transmission.

61 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2012

I was driving down the highway at 70 mph when my car shut off I was almost hit by another car then a semi truck because I didn't know what had happened. My car had no throttle response. After having my car looked at it, it was diagnosed to have a bad throttle body. So I did some research and its a common thong with 2010 Ford Fusions, but for some reason Ford won't either find a way to figure out why they seem to have throttle bodies that are malfunctioning and putting their drivers lives in danger. They need to recall this before it causes someone to lose their life. For people who don't know it cost about $500 to get it fixed if your vehicle isn't under warranty.

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2012

I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion through rush hour accident traffic. My car began to idle rough and lost power while on a bridge. I was unable to accelerate. I coasted off the bridge and to the emergency lane. I restarted my car and everything seemed okay. I got back into accident traffic. My Fusion again began to idle rough. The rpm jumped, my car jerked forwarded and lost power again. I had my car towed to the body shop since it was clearly not safe to drive. The body shop ran tests and said the car was driving fine for them. Since picking my car up, it has lost power four times in two days. Three of the times happened while on a major interstate! not having the ability to accelerate on a major interstate is a disturbing feeling. My car is back in the shop since it is clearly not safe to drive on a consistent basis. This is not my first issue with the Fusion's fuel system. This will be the last Ford I own and can't wait to trade it in.

63 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2012

We bought our 2010 Ford Fusion used and the day we purchased the car we had a problem. The check engine light was on and when we asked the dealership we were told it was because they had just changed the oil and needed to reset the computer. We noticed that when we stopped the car would jump forward and stall. We called the dealership and were told to bring the car back and they would fix it and provide us with a loaner in the meantime. When I called back to schedule the service I was then told they would not fulfill there statement. We called, sent email and never received and response. I had pretty much given up on help until by mistake they had called us about our recent purchase and they had stated they had called the wrong person, I voiced my concern as the car had been getting worse and the stalling, especially when driving on the interstate was becoming more frequent and dangerous. We have had the car diagnosed, and some repair. We were recently informed that the problem in the throttle body which I have found out is on back order and was told the manufacturer is no longer making. I have found many complaints about the issue on the same make/model. This is a big safety hazard. Unfortunately when you are a one car family you cannot just set your car aside and not go to work or other necessary places. I do not understand why after at least 2 yrs of complaints on this issue it has not been taken care of so far. Someone will, if they have not already be seriously injured or killed due to this problem Ford and others are definitely aware of this issue since it cannot be repaired due to no part. These cars need to be recalled immediately,.

64 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

The vehicle lost power, the gas pedal had no effect, and it would surge forward by itself. Created a very scary and unsafe situation for my wife. I went to the gas station where she had managed to get pulled into and shut it off, I looked it over and restarted it. It seemed to have power and throttle response, so I attempted to drive it on home since it was within a mile. It again failed on me within 100 yards but I was able to limp it on home. The dealership towed it into service and they thought the throttle body was bad. . . So they replaced it and now it is working. They said this is happening to a lot of throttle bodies! I am not sure why there isn't a recall or more investigations happening here. This was totally unexpected from a vehicle with only 11k miles on it.

65 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

When driving the vehicle the throttle body fails putting the car into "limp mode". Acceleration is impossible and the car will stall while attempting to safely pull off the road. After a single search online for "Ford Fusion throttle body" numerous instances of similar failures appear beginning in approximately 2005. The vehicle will lose all ability to accelerate but maintain electrical power until the vehicle stalls. This occurred to me while traveling on the highway at 75 mph and is extremely unsafe. The problem is so widespread that the local Ford dealers maintain a stock of throttle body units to replace. The risk of an accident very high because of the possibility of stalling out and losing control of the vehicle.

66 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2011

When I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion the wrench light came on and the car lost all power and stalled out. Luckily I wasn't in front of a truck or on the freeway. Very scary my car only has 15391 miles on it. This car was also leaking oil. I am not happy with this car. When I took it to the dealer this problem didn't show up at first so the service person kept the car longer and finally it did the same thing and lost all power so they replaced the throttle body and replaced the the gasket that was leaking oil. Also a few months earlier one of the coils went bad and had to be replaced.

67 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2011

This has happened a number of times since it started a few months ago, but soon after starting and driving down the road, the Fusion suddenly loses power, the wrench light comes on the dash, and the idle is very rough. There is no acceleration possible. We have to coast to a stop, turn off the engine, then restart the car. This seems to reset the problem and things get back to normal. We've had the dealer look at it twice now. They suspect a throttle body problem. Fortunately for us, we are still under warranty, but it is very disconcerting and a bit dangerous for this to happen. One time I was driving on the highway around 60 mph and it happened. I had to coast to the emergency lane while multiple cars passed me and swerved around me. This problem occurred yesterday three times in one 30 minute period. The dealer said that Ford has given them no help in solving the problem. We almost bought a Toyota camry instead of the Fusion. I guess we should have done that.

68 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2011

My 2010 Fusion has experienced multiple issues with the check engine light. It is always the same pcm code of p0456 which deals with evaporative emissions system. The servicing dealer does not know where the problem is nor how to fix it- even after calling tech support and having a field service engineer assigned. While the light is on, making left hand turns is downright frightful as the engine loses power and the car feels as if it does not want to go. One would think that after five repair attempts in 14 months the issue would be corrected. This last time it took less than three days and 122 miles for the issue to reappear. There is a TSB for the issue but apparently that did not fix my vehicle.

69 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

2010 Ford Fusion sel. Customer writes in regards to continued transmission problems. The consumer stated the transmission would slip harshly and hesitate on acceleration. The recall repair did not correct the transmission problems. It was determined that the valve body and solenoid body were defective. Also, one of the tires was leaking air, there was an issue with the traction and brakes. There were noises coming from the front of the vehicle. The steering wheel would not lock into place, the cd player did not work at times, the driver side visor did not stay in place, the gas over flow tube was inoperative, the vehicle would pull hard when the brake was applied. The rear driver's side door had to be slammed extremely hard, in order to close it. The driver's side seat belt was backwards. The passenger side windshield wiper dragged on the windshield and the vehicle would sometimes surge on its own. Each time the consumer went to the dealer about certain problems, she was told no problems were found.

70 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

Trouble starting like the starter is defective, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Automatic transmission that jerks when shifting.
