Complete loss of power steering while driving, service power steering now warning light came on right after, service advance trac warning right after that. After doing some research this is a known issue to Ford and customer service agent confirmed this in chat, screenshot included.

2 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2024

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while changing the driver's side front tire, three of the wheel studs fractured. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels). The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

3 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2023

Lug nuts cracked and swollen. Recommended replacing after very difficult to remove and rescrew.

4 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2022

When needing to take the tires off, the socket that came with the vehicle spare tire would not fit on the lug nuts. Upon research we discovered this was a known problem that the factory lug nuts would swell, thus not being able to use the standard equipment provided with the vehicle. I want to replace these lug nuts, however I am not finding lug nuts that will hold the wheel cover onto the wheel.

5 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2022

It started in January 2022 riding down the road, and the front left tire blew out. While replacing the tire is when the first, of more than a dozen lug nuts / studs/bolts broke off. This would make the car make a weird noise causing the tires to make a weird noise and it be the wheel wobbling. When you’d get up to 45mph or so it would cause the whole to shake and make a noise as well. I went to b&b tire to have front pads, all rotors and a master cylinder replaced. They said 40% was left on pads and rotors. Also that the used master cylinder wasn’t any good? so, none of the maintenance seemed to resolve the brakes. They were kinda of stumped ?the lug nuts/ studs/ bolts all the way around have either had to be replaced, or sporadicly came loose, broke off on there own. It as if the wheels/ lug nuts/ studs/ bolts and brakes are a combination of issues working against each other. We are riding with every tire missing at least one of the three. Some tires are missing more. No, we realized something wasn’t right with the wheels/ lug nuts/ studs/ bolts/ brakes with the first front left tire blew out. Now the back right wheel is giving us trouble. The front left only has 3 lug nuts/ studs/ bolts holding it on. I have photos of the ones that had to be replaced, and what’s on the wheels at this point. The tire pressure light stays on. Whether you just put right amount of air in each on or not. The front left tire was the beginning of everything. I’ve found a tire weight that fell off in my driveway. I called in and filed a complaint via telephone. The photos in this complaint all apply to the odi# below. VIN #:3fahp0ha4br303447 odi #: 11460546 ( 506503) I found a recall for 2011 Ford Fusion NHTSA: campaign #:11v574000 (NHTSA recall 11v-574 ) & Ford recall#: 11s23 campaign recall #: 11s23 I have more photos I have to email you at vsh@dot. Gov.

6 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2021

On 12/13/21, my son swerved out of an accident and hit a high curb which damaged the driver's side tire. Luckily the air bag did not discharge. Recall 21s12 driver air bag inflator replacement was issued in March of 2021, yet I did not receive a letter, and my car still has not been repaired. Are you waiting for a fatality to occur before providing the dealers with the necessary supplies?.

7 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

I've had to replace all the lug nuts now on this car due to swelling and corrosion. This is ridiculous. I've already had to replace over $3000 of steering gears after only owning it for two days when I bought it.

Failure Date: 07/26/2019

I was on the interstate drive when the vehicle's power steering wheel lost full functionality. I was unable to steer left or right without there being a strain. I was nearly 1 hour away from the nearest mechanic shop and was forced to manually override the steering wheel's control in order to arrive at a mechanic shop nearest to my destination.

Supplemental to nhsta 11v574000, my 2011 Ford Fusion fwd continues to suffer wheel stud fracture. A total of 5 studs have fractured, 2 prior to recall and now 3 studs after recall and complete stud replacement. I can provide pictures upon request, the latest was a day ago with 142,525miles.

My cars winshield wipers have a short in them when I put on air. The my car keeps shaking when driving. My airbaga still arent working and car feels like its still idling rough. All of rhe recalls were fixed but still having same problem. Car was in motion for vibrating and parked when I noticed air bags.

15 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2017

The lug nuts on the Ford Fusion are known to swell to greater than their original size. When these lug nuts swell, the lug nut wrench will no longer fit, so they must be drilled or extracted, and have the potential to fracture when driving. I have replaced the lug nuts twice, so I am on my third set. If I were to have a flat tire, I was told it would have to be towed as the wrench would not fit the lug nuts. "the national highway traffic safety administration and Ford have issued a recall alert for 2010-2011 model year Ford Fusion and Mercury milan sedans. The vehicles may have faulty wheel studs that may fracture and possibly cause the wheels to separate from the cars, increasing the likelihood of a collision. " recall #: 11v574000 I was never alerted of this recall from Ford, and I have also had my vehicle serviced for this exact problem at a Ford dealership. I have received other recalls via mail, and also continually check my VIN on the Ford website. I now have paid for this twice.

16 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

Lug nut and stud failure. Learned of problem after a dealer repair. Car stationary at home when problem discovered. After dealer safety recall repair of front steering rack, which included tire rotation, meaning all 4 tires removed and returned to vehicle by the dealer. I was replacing the front brake pads, easy repair, and I learned the following: lug nuts were tightened so tight that the wrench provided by the manufacturer would not loosen them by hand. Tried to use star wrench, which was larger, and still too tight. Decided to use manufacturer wrench from trunk with a 5 foot piece of emt thin wall tubing to add torque, had to tap lug wrench onto one bolt due to swelling of outer bolt covering (corrosion between bolt and decorative covering). Learned dealer had stripped one bolt on driver front wheel. After replacing pads on drivers side, started repair on passenger side. 2 studs broke off while removing. Using a hand wrench this has never happened in 45 years of repairing cars. I believe Ford should consider replacing all lug nuts and studs on their vehicles as this "defect" could cause serious injury or death. Lug nuts should not swell nor should they be repeatedly over tightened during the tire rotation process used by all Ford dealers in their (roughly) $30. 00 service package tht includes oil change, brake inspection, and tire rotation. This package has resulted in my tires being rotated and retightened several times, meaning each time of over tightening further weakens the strength of the lug stud. Not sure if the stud is defective or the Ford motor company practice of over tightening lug nuts is the cause of these bolts being weak enough that they snapped with hand removal. Thank you. Don dunklee.

17 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

I seen on your site, that my vehicle a 2011 Ford Fusion had a recall for broken studs and bolts. It said the recall was to begin in 2012. I purchased my Fusion in 2013, I have been to the Ford dealer twice with broken studs, cost me 189. 58 the first time to have one stud on each front side repaired, then 645. 19 to replace all on both sides of front wheels again in 2016 as two had broken off again on each side. It seems maybe Ford did not do the repair on my vehicle as they should have, or the repair is not sufficient. They try to blame the tire company's for over torquing the bolts twice. Thanks mike.

18 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

Check fuel fill inlet the light stay on.

19 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. When making a right or left turn, there was an abnormal noise coming from both front wheels. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels). The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

20 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

Lug nuts corrode and you cannot get the lug wrench on them to remove tire. This is a known issue according to several Ford techs. I've already had to replace one set of lug nuts due to this issue and now I am being told I need to replace them again.

21 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2016

Wheel studs breaking. I have now had 9 wheel studs break, 8 during normal servicing and 1 while actually driving. Since with alloy wheels there was no hubcap, the wheel nut and the top of the bolt was missing. There was an original recall for this but only for cars with steel wheels. My car has alloy wheels but I consider 9 breaks to be unsafe.

22 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

In December of 2011 my car had a recall for fracturing wheel studs. I bought my car at a year old. A few months after I bought my car two wheel studs snapped off. I called Ford to get the parts to fix it and they said nothing about the recall. Then about 6 months later on opposite side another wheel stud broke. I again called Ford and then they decide to mention the recall. Apparently there was one issued before I owned my car and only the drivers side had been fixed. Even though I had had studs break off on drivers side after the recall. So they did the recall on the passenger side. Since then I have had studs break 3 different times on both sides. I contacted Ford and they say there is nothing they can do about it. This to me is a very big safety issue and I dont feel like I should be paying to replace these or driving a vehicle with potential of a wheel falling off.

23 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2014

During a routine tire rotation, one of the lug nut studs broke off of the front driver's side wheel. There were no signs of corrosion, cross-threading or other damage to the stud, it simply sheered off at the wheel surface when the mechanic tried to loosen the lug nut. This is the second time this has happened on the same wheel, and in both cases the mechanic indicated that he had never seen a stud break off under those circumstances and he had no explanation for how it could have happened. I know that Ford conducted a recall for this same issue on certain 2011 Ford Fusions, but my vehicle was not included in the recall. However, the problems I am having are identical to those identified in the recall, and I question whether the recall was broad enough.

24 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

I was driving into a parking lot and my power steering light came on to service soon I parked my car then when I went to leave and started my car, the light went to service now and I had no power steering at all. I am a college student and just bought this car less than 5 months ago and I am very lucky that this didnt happen on my way home while driving through the mountain areas I have to drive through from college or I could have had a fatal or serious accident. I dont have the money to fix this and I believe Ford motor company should recall and repair this serious issue and since there is several complaints.

25 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

2 wheel studs have snapped off out of nowhere on the passenger side front wheel.

26 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the wheel studs have prematurely fractured intermittently. The contact indicated that the wheel studs on the front right tire fractured twice and the vehicle was taken to a repair shop who replaced the wheel studs once and the vehicle was dignosed to have the wheel studs replaced again on the front right tire. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 11v574000 (wheels). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000. Dyd.

27 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

When loosening my lug nuts for a routine tire rotation, a wheel stud broke off on each of my front tires, for a total of two broken studs. The last time the right front wheel was tightened was at Ford to replace a previous broken lug nut! Ford would not replace all of my wheel studs at that time. Recall #11v574000 (Ford recall #11s23) does not list the manufacturing date of my vehicle so Ford would not replace all wheel studs! I feel like I am driving in a death trap and it is only a matter of time before a wheel falls off while driving! NHTSA please help! please expand the recall to include all 2011 Ford Fusions regardless of manufacturing date. I have never used air tools on the wheel and the lugs have always been torqued to manufacturer's recommended specification (100 ft lbs).

28 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

Began having problems with this vehicle the the second month after purchase. The first incident was steering wheel locked and I could not control the direction of the car. I ended up on the left side of the road off the shoulder before I could stop it. It happened on several occasions. Car dies for no reason. I end up having it towed or restarted by charging battery. The battery always has a full charge. Also I have been shopping and get in the car to start it and it will not start. Door handles would not work from inside. Windows would not open. Had to force window down enough to open from the outside. Had front door handle assemble replaced had transfer case resealed horrible smell new tires 3x since it was purchased had rear drive shaft replaced fuel pump replaced had taken it to Ford just recently for what I deemed was computer problems, of course they could not find anything wrong. I was told by my mechanic the last time I had new tires put on the car that I would need new rims soon. The rims are eroding from the inside out. I have several invoices for work that was done and a few more I can't locate at this time. I would like to send them all to you. Purchase car 12/1/12.

29 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Noticed a lug nut was missing from my right front tire. On closer inspection I saw that the wheel stud was broken off. I have never used air tools on the wheel and the lugs have always been torqued to manufacturer's recommended specification (100 ft lbs). There is a similar recall #11v574000 (Ford recall #11s23) active, but it does not list the manufacturing date of my vehicle in this recall.

30 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

I turned the steering wheel to make a left turn into cross street the steering did not respond easily. Checked the front left tire. It had a bubble and it burst, the tire deflated and the car was resting on the rim. The tire could not be patched. I had to order a new tire (goodyear eagle).

31 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

I was doing 55 mph and my car stalled, the wrench and check engine light came on then the car stopped. After a couple attempts the car started and I was allowed to drive although I was scared and got off the freeway. I also have had a problem with my wheels knocking when I turn like one of the tires are going to come off. Now I have to replace the throttle body! I took the car to the mechanic and now all these things have to be fixed and have become quite costly, not to mention the car was made to not have a gas cap? really? I'm starting to wonder if the Ford Fusion is the right car to have and the safety questions are always in my head because if a car stops on the freeway while doing 55 a serious accident can't be too far behind. I pray these issues all get addressed and recalled so no one gets killed! I did research on this website and found that the same issues have happened to many others but when I called Ford's customer relations department I was told there are no recalls for my VIN. I can't imagine I am the only one having these troubling issues taking place but it only affected certain models. Seems to me all Ford Fusions should have these items recalled and replace regardless of what model. I now have to keep my receipt from the mechanic because it was not a Ford dealer who fixed my car and hope that the recall on these issues will allow me to get my hard earned monies back one day soon. Frustrated Ford Fusion owner to say the least.

32 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

My car was recalled back in December 2011 for potential issues with wheel falling off. Today is 2/21/2012 and Ford not only says they don't have the parts to repair but they don't even have a timeline!!!! please tell me what owners are supposed to do?.
