Three problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2013 Ford Fusion. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2013 Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the 2013 Fusion.
I had my vehicle for 6 months within the 6 months I had the alternator, water pump, 2 coolant leaks fixed, spark plugs, driver seat, battery, timing belt, and now a undiagnosed problem that is taking 2 weeks and it is currently in the shop. These all happened when in motion.
While driving all electrical components will go on and off, including put not limited to windows, locks, radio, heating/ac, and dash gauges. The mechanic had the vehicle for approx 2 months and could not solve the issue. A Ford tech even looked at the car and could not figure out the issue either. Several of the control modules were replaced, alternator and battery with no impact on problem. This is a daily occurrence.
When the car is turned on, the car flashes the "check charging system" message once the car starts moving. With ok pressed, the battery warning light remains illuminated. As I drive, the vehicle may: illuminate the airbag warning light - have all radio functions stop operating - have the external temperature gauge read abnormal numbers - any or all of the above. The process disappears when the cars stops, and may or may not appear more than once in a day. The car drives normally, and 2 trips to the Ford repair shop to replace parts (including the alternator) have not identified any problem with the battery or changed the behavior of the car. There is obviously some kind of electronic malfunction, and I am not sure about the fire hazard or safety of operating a car whose computers seem to be malfunctioning consistently. I have pictures of multiple incidents and 2 repair invoices that attempted to address the issue with no effect.
