1 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2021

I purchased my used 2015 Ford Fusion with on 70,000 miles on it on a Tuesday, on the following Thursday the check engine light came on. I took it to a shop to be diagnosed and was told it just needed coolant. So they added coolant and the check engine light went off and everything was fine. . . . . . But then the following Tuesday the check engine light came on again. I decided to take it to an auto parts store to be quickly diagnosed and the code showed up as p26ce (engine coolant pump-overspeed/air in system), I then checked to see if there was coolant still in the tank and noticed that the tank was completely empty. So I then took my car back to the shop the following day and they searched for the leak. They eventually found the leak in the thermostat housing. They showed me the thermostat housing and how corroded it was, they then had to order a new thermostat housing and let me know that the new part still wouldn?t be a permanent fix, that in 70,000 more miles the new thermostat housing will become defective again because of corrosion. Ford should offer a permanent fix for the corroding thermostat housings!!!.

3 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2021

While driving on the interstate my control panel started throwing an alarm of engine temp high. It would go off then back on several times. About 15-30 mins heading home the engine light came on and cut power to the engine. This is the second time this has happened in the life of this car. First time Ford replaced the engine. This time they say that its not under warranty and want me to replace it again. The life of this new engine is less than 2 years old and less than 12000 miles on it. Coolant leaking into the engine. This is a serious issue that is going to get somebody killed if it hasn't already!.

This morning I got an engine coolant over heat message and my car over heated in a drive less than 10 minutes in cold weather. Coolant was checked a few days ago and levels were good. I checked after getting the message and coolant tank was completely empty. There was no visible leak where I had parked. Reading on to possible problems online, I read that this is a serious and known issue. My vehicle has always been serviced on schedule and this is not normal. 12-1-2020.

9 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Driving on highway and car overheats and have to pull over. The car shutdown. A coolant problem not a big deal. Take it in and have a code saying it is misfire #2 #3. Replace plugs do a tune up and ask about the over heating problem. Said we were low on antifreeze. Strange cause we had just topped all fluids when we changed oil. Okay pick it up runs great for one day, engine light comes on again. Take it back and get it checked misfire again. Leave car with mechanic and he goes thru it. Test driving and engine light comes back on. Gets it back to the shop, starts looking around and notices the coolant which he just filled is dry. After further review the coolant is leaking into the engine. The diagnose is the engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has 80000 miles on it and should not have a problem of this sort going on at all. We took it in to Ford and was told they can help us . This is there product correct?.

10 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2020

Car is around 80,000 miles and has coolant leaking into the cylinders. Previously I had some misfire codes coming through and had the spark plugs replaced. However, the car continued to rough idle and the engine light periodically would come back on. A few days ago the car informed me that the engine was overheating while driving on the highway. I refilled the coolant to the correct level and checked back the next day. The coolant was below the minimum line again so I took it to the dealership. This is when they dealership told me about the need for an engine replacement.

11 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

We have now experienced the identical defect in the engine in this car two times. Coolant is leaking into the engine causing it to fail the first time and now triggering check engine lights that the dealership states will require the engine to be replaced again meaning it will be the third engine in a 5 year old car with 55000 miles. The first issue occurred in April 2019. The car engine stopped while being driven on a suburban parkway creating a dangerous situation to pull out of traffic. It needed to be towed to dealership. The engine had burned off all the coolant and when tested the dealership stated coolant was leaking into the engine and it would need to be replaced. There were 41,000 miles on the car so the engine replacement was covered by warranty. Since then we have driven the car 14,000 miles in 18 months on the new engine that was replaced. In September of 2020 the check engine light came on while driving on the highway. We took it to a auto parts store to download the code for the check engine light. It was p0300, an engine misfire. We took to a local shop to check it out. He diagnosed the same issue. He found coolant in cylinder 1 and it was 1/2 gallon short of coolant. He stated this is known issue and engine would need to be replaced. I shared it had already been replaced and he recommended taking it back to dealer that did work. I drove it to dealer and they confirmed the same issue with coolant in the engine and it would need to be replaced. This time, it's not under warranty so we will have to buy a new engine for $5k. I have requested Ford stand behind the replacement engine with 14,000 miles on it only to be told no, the new engine isn't covered. The car has 55,500 miles on it currently.

12 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

Car started leaking coolant in may, but no visible sign of leaking. Car never overheated and kept coolant at appropriate level. Car would occasionally misfire on startup and would have cylinder 1 misfire. One day car began to shake at highway speed and immediately slowed down and left highway. Took to Ford dealership and was told that coolant was leaking into combustion chamber and needed a new engine.

13 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2020

Engine coolant is being consumed by the engine leading to unsafe engine overheating. This internal leak occurs during all driving situations.

14 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion se ecoboost currently around 76000 miles. About 2 weeks ago the check engine light turned on. The scan had reported a cylinder misfire due for a spark plug change along with a coil change. Made the replacements day after, check engine light was corrected. A week ago it overheated, coolant had disappeared, even after refilling the coolant at max the vehicle wouldn't register the coolant. No movement, not drivable. Got it towed to the nearest Ford dealership. Waited for almost a week for them to diagnose the car, come to find out my car is in need of a new engine. The technician said the coolant was being eaten by the engine and there was no way to find out where in the engine was the leak. excessive moisture could cause the engine to combust if driven in this condition. the engine was absorbing the moisture. What I can't understand is how could this be a common problem in Ford Fusion ecoboost models and not be a manufacturer recall. If car was kept up with maintenance, and never brought up when getting serviced. There's no wear and tear damage it's a manufacture defect. A car engine should not last 5 years from being brand new to basically totaled car. . Ford should provide a recall . This is unacceptable. Even after contacting Ford they mentioned no coverage after 5 year power train warranty.

15 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2020

Engine starting rough then evening out. Took to dealership. Was told that coolant was leaking into cylinder making for initial rough idle. Service bulletin says to replace engine. We had them tear down the engine to confirm it was not a head gasket. Results negative. So, had the engine replaced for $6800. 00.

16 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

Ford Fusion with 75000 miles. Repair shop just diagnosed my engine issue as a coolant leak into the engine block. This is an ongoing problem with Fusions of this age. Repair cost is a replacement of the engine $8000.

17 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2020

Engine ran rough on start up, check engine light came on, took car to Ford dealer who told me coolant was leaking into #3 cylinder and engine would need replaced, mileage on car is 64,441. It looks like Ford has a manufacturing defect in this 1. 5 engine as my problem is not a isolated problem.

18 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

In Aug 2020 the check engine light came on in my 2015 Ford Fusion after it started rough. I brought it to the Ford dealership for service. They said the spark plugs and coils should be replaced (check engine code was p0303, cylinder misfire). A month later the same issue occurred again. Called the dealership and the service mgr said 'OH, there have been problems with the Fusion ecoboost engines. Coolant leaks into the cylinders and damages them. He said the design of the engine block has score grooves between the cylinders eventually causing the leak and corrosion to start. He then proceeded to inform me that the long block and head gasket would need to be replaced and the starting cost would $5,000+. But likely closer to $7000. Further he said Ford was aware of the issue but not recalling or covering the replacement cost. He said he had 8 other vehicles on the lot needing the same repair and even if they had the parts in stock, which they don't and it would take some time to get them, if would be 6 weeks to complete the repair. The replacement would be the entire engine which Ford has corrected the issue and removed the scored grooves. I have maintained my Fusion with the same Ford dealership and had all routine maintenance and care done there. This engine issue was there at the time it was manufactured and was a time bomb. I should not have to incur the expense or financial loss to replace the engine. If left unrepaired the engine will eventually cease and depending on where that occurs could be dangerous to me and surrounding drivers. I have parked my vehicle for now until the service manager lets me know what Ford will do, if anything. He said they might give me some help but I would have to cover most of the expense!!! I.

19 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

Ford Fusion 2015 1. 5l. Coolant system pressure tested and coolant found leaking into cylinder number 1, due to manufacturing fault. 73,3000 miles on clock. Apparently a new engine is needed. Ford will not cover the cost of the engine replacement until they are forced to. Engine can catch on fire.

20 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2020

Bought my vehicle new 5. 5 years ago and has 84,000 miles. Noticed a rumbling coming from the engine and then the check engine light came on. I looked under the hood and saw I was dangerously low on coolant. Took it to the shop and turns out that due to a defect with the 1. 5l ecoboost engines, coolant was leaking into the cylinder 3 causing it to misfire. The issue is exactly what is described on the Ford TSB #20-2100. Since I'm just passed my warranty I am now stuck paying for a new engine on a 5. 5 year old vehicle.

22 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

When I crank my car it starts shaking really bad and missing my check engine light comes on and goes off took it to mechanic and they said it was leaking coolant into cylinder and the motor needs to be replaced. I'm afraid that it's gonna to stop going down the road. I'm a single parent and on a fixed income the cost of a new engine is half of what I owe.

23 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

Bought my Ford Fusion used from a dealership at end of December with 78k miles. Check engine light was illuminating so I took the car to Ford dealership to have a diagnostic done because the car was shaking and kept misfiring and my coolant kept becoming low only after a few days. Upon diagnosis I was informed that there was coolant leak shooting out to cylinder 4 and caused damage to the spark plug that was caused by an engine defect. My extended warranty came out and looked at the issue agreed the engine needed to be replaced but they denied the claim because this is an engine defect that Ford is aware of for this model per the TSB bulletin Ford put out. Ford won't fix their issue and im here getting the short end of the stick. My car is still now in the shop as im trying to figure out how to get the money to fix something that Ford already knew was messed up. This is ridiculous. As this seems to be an issue with other owners with this model.

24 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

Took vehicle to dealership due to check engine light being illuminated. Was told there was coolant leaking into my 4th cylinder. Also informed there was a technical bulletin out for this known issue. Concerned about a fire. Per their 2014 Ford Fusion recall: "in the affected vehicles, a lack of coolant circulation could cause an engine to overheat, resulting in a crack in the cylinder head," Ford reported. "a cracked cylinder head can result in a pressurized oil leak. Oil that comes into contact with a hot engine surface increases the risk of a fire in the engine compartment. " this is the same issue as my vehicle, yet there has not been a recall on my year of vehicle at this time.

25 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2020

Coolant leak into engine for 2015 Ford Fusion se. Car overheated on the highway in 2020. I took it to Ford while under warranty. They said the engine wasn't the issue and that it was the coolant. They bled it & put new. I am still having the same issue. Got it fixed 3 times! to find out it is the coolant leaking into the cylinder/engine. My coolant is empty every 20miles! my car is no longer under warranty but I originally asked Ford when the issue first happened !.

26 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2020

27 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2020

Bought used in Feb 2019. In July of same year it was diagnosed blown head gasket cyl 2. Out of warranty so had to pay $3,100. 00 to replace. Now, 9 months later, same thing cylinder 2. In December of 2019 Ford came out with bulletin TSB 19-2375 stating the block needs replaced to solve this problem. That is an over $6,000. 00 repair. I call that a defective block which should warrant a recall, Ford simply told me it's called out of warranty and it's my problem. My problem is, it's my only form of transportation. So what it is doing is when I start it, it runs rough because it is misfiring do to coolant leak into the cylinder and white smoke comes out of exhaust. It is my belief that Ford knows this is a defective block otherwise they would not have issued the bulletin. An internet search will show many other owners of the 2014 through 2019 produced 1. 5 liter motors have the same problem. I tried to upload the repair bill and the TSB bulletin but it stated file too big.

Failure Date: 02/24/2020

Earlier this year in February, vehicle was in motion and failed to accelerate. After another attempt was able to get car to accelerate and made it home. Car was shaking and smoke coming from tailpipe. Car was towed to dealership for diagnostics and was told I needed a new engine due to coolant leaking into engine. Had engine replaced and now 8 months later, I'm having the same issue. Car is shaking upon start and engine light is on. Ford hasn't declared a recall for this issue, even after multiple reports of this being a known problem.

32 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2019

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. While driving 25 mph, the driver's side brake line malfunctioned. The brake pedal was very loose and traveled to the floorboard. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot and bump against a curb to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who repaired the driver's side brake line that was leaking brake fluid. The failure recurred with the passenger side brake line, which was also repaired by the same mechanic. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. The mechanic changed a coil pack on cylinder number four on the engine, but the failure recurred the following. The contact stated that the engine shook and excessive smoke poured out of the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to riverside Ford (2089 riverside dr, macon, GA 31204, (478) 464-2900) where they changed a spark plug on cylinder number four. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer found coolant in the engine with the fluid entering through the cylinder number four block. The dealer quoted the cost to replace the entire engine. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The contact researched the failure and found that it occurred many times with a possible engine design crack. The manufacturer did not assist and referred the contact to NHTSA. The brake failures were repaired. The failure mileage was 86,000.

33 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

Brought car in for service due to check engine light and battery not charging. Replaced battery, but check engine light remained on. Again, went to get get diagnostic, resulted in needing catalytic converter. Picked up car and check engine light came back on. Returned to service next day. Diagnostic showed coolant leaked into the engine and head gasket needing replacing. The result is needing a new motor. This issue seems similar to NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000. My issue seems to be related to this recall on the 2013 and 2014 Fusions. Ford is provided $3,000 for the repair due to me being over 600 miles over power train. My concern is the recall to the 13 and 14 Fusion could be broader than those years.

34 Coolant Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

In 2019 I had an over temp warning pop up. After taking to dealership found it to be a coolant leak in cylinder 2. Since it was under warranty Ford replaced the engine. Less than 2 years later with the new engine the same issue is happening again, but is no longer under warranty and they want me to pay to replace. This has not only happened to me, but there are countless others with the same issue. I was driving on the interstate going about 65-70mph when the power was shut down to my engine and could have killed me.
