I am requesting formal escalation and review of my case due to a repeat failure of a safety recall component that has rendered my vehicle unsafe and not safely operable. My vehicle is a 2016 Ford Fusion. In 2024, a door latch safety recall repair was completed at an authorized Ford dealership. The same door latch has now failed again, causing the door to not close or latch at all, creating the same safety condition the recall was intended to correct. Both the dealership and Ford customer service have declined assistance on the basis that the recall repair was previously completed. However, this is not a new or unrelated issue — this is a repeat failure of the same safety-critical component addressed under the recall. This condition presents an ongoing safety risk, and the vehicle cannot be used safely in its current state. I have already filed a formal complaint with NHTSA documenting this repeat failure and Ford’s refusal to repair the issue. At this time, I am requesting: review by a supervisor or escalation specialist consideration for goodwill or recall-related assistance resolution of this repeat safety defect without cost to me please provide: confirmation that this case has been escalated a written response explaining Ford’s position any options Ford is willing to offer to address this safety concern I am requesting this review in good faith and hope Ford will stand behind its safety recall repair when the same defect has clearly reoccurred. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [xxx] & [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When key is in ignition and either in on position with engine off or in accessory state the dash starts to click and the hood then releases and opens does not happen when key is not in the ignition and driver door is open or when car is running or when car is locked but does happen if key was just removed from ignition and door has not been opened yet there are not service lights on and all trunk buttons still work when pressed.
On may 16, 2024, plaintiff stephen cooney was in urgent need of replacing the front passenger side tire on his vehicle. He began searching online to compare automotive service providers, focusing on those offering competitive pricing and professional-grade installation. During my search, 1 came across mr. Tire's website, which prominently displayed claims such as "expert installation for less" and "quality service for superior stopping power. " according to their site, their tire installation package included: • ??tire mounting and wheel balancing • ??standard valve stem replacement • ??tpms inspection and reset • ??wheel alignment check • ??precision wheel torque by hand tools • ??lifetime tire rotation • ??lifetime rebalancing believing this was a comprehensive and professional service package, I scheduled an appointment at mr. Tire, located at 5 bel air south parkway, bel air, MD 21014 (store #771). Upon arrival, I checked in with the store manager, brianna adams, who prepared my service contract. She explained the total cost for installing the new tire would be $191. 53. The technician assigned to my vehicle was j. Foster, as listed on the service agreement and receipt. On August 4, 2024, while driving, I was involved in a serious accident. The front passenger side tire completely detached from the vehicle while in motion, causing the car to slam into the ground. I was severe risk of injury or death. The way I’ve taken this to court as I went back and looked at the reviews as of today’s date October 18th 2025 they still are committee, consumer fraud, unsafe, work practices, deceptive business practices, and are putting the community and the residence of the state of maryland and beyond at risk from unsafe work practices and I have submitted the reviews as a pdf as an attachment to this complaint I am requesting for investigation into their business for unsafe work practices and 49 u. S. C. §?30101 (purpose and policy) .
This is a notice for ongoing consumer fraud and deceptive business practices that are negatively affecting the community and jeopardizing life and safety and through unsafe work practices that are negatively affecting the community’s safety and well being. When I returned to request official documentation of their unsafe work practices, I was lacked up by the employees and manager ryan hall, who thought it was hilarious that the wheel fell off my vehicle and then I could’ve been killed and the occurrence that happened to me is not a one time occurrence it is continuing to affect the community as a whole. This is a complaint regarding ongoing bad business practices that is not safe. Would somebody please look into this and make sure that our community is safe and that unsafe work practices are corrected in the best interest and safety of the community in mind. 49 u. S. C. §?30101 (purpose and policy) — defines the purpose of the safety act: to reduce traffic accidents, deaths, and injuries by prescribing safety standards, research, etc. As of October 18 of 2025 I pulled these off the internet reviews reflect an ongoing pattern of unsafe business practices, from what people are saying and unethical business conduct. Somebody please look into this and follow up on each review post and pull records from past customers.

My drivers side door will not latch closed due to cracking from extreme heat. When I try and shut my door it doesn't latch and pops open.
The trunk will open by itself. This happens at random time to include while driving. I am seeing lots of other people having the same issue online but now one has found a fix at this time.
The front driver's side door latch failed. The latch would not secure to keep the door closed. The vehicle is at a dealership and could be inspected on request. My safety was put at risk because the latch could have failed while I was driving it. The dealership said they "didn't know why" my vehicle did not have a recall on the door latch as many 2016 Ford Fusions do have that recall. The vehicle is being inspected today by the dealership. There were no warnings for the door latch malfunction.
My vehicle is a 2016 Ford Fusion se vin3fa6p0h79gr130351. There is currently a recall (20v177000) on 2016 Ford Fusions, however it appears that the recall does not cover my specific vehicle per Ford. In 2021 we had an incident where the driver side door latch broke/stopped functioning causing the door to swing open and the door not securing properly. Upon that incident occurring, I took the vehicle to the dealership (duval Ford, jacksonville florida) for repair, at which time I was told my vehicle was not covered under the recall nor was the issue covered under warranty. Thus I paid approximately $400 to have the repair complete. Yesterday the door latch failed again, this time while driving in traffic as I was coming to a stop at an intersection. The door violently flew open as the vehicle was still moving. Had there been someone standing or walking in the median, the door would have hit them. Upon stopping I attempted to secure the door but it will not secure and just stays open. It will be required to again pay to repair this major safety issue. I believe this safety issue should be covered under the current recall for the same model vehicles in this year. I am concerned that after repair this issue will occur again and could cause a major accident or great bodily harm.
2 car door latches unresponsive and wont lock. Known issue with Ford this VIN isnt covered by recall but same issue.
A year ago (2022), the passenger door latch failed for unknown reasons out of the blue. The door simply would not close. At the shop, the technician mentioned that it had mechanically and electrically failed and the door would not latch. A year later (2023), the issue is reoccuring; same (passenger) door and driver door both suddenly will not latch making the car inoperable due to safety risks. Upon research, it seems this issue is common to specific Ford models. Ford Fusion hybrid/energi recall campaign # 20s15/20v177, there is an outstanding recall for certain VIN numbers but Ford refuses to cover my issue despite clear safety concern.
After parking the car, I opened the front passenger door from the outside and then attempted to close it but the door would not latch. The latch was not engaging to keep it should. I can hear the lock working when pressed with the key remote and on the door, but did not change the catching of the door. This is a safety issue because the door is currently tied shut with rope as I am working on getting it fixed. I am concerned that the door could open while driving and windows must be rolled down to tie it, so it is not secured when left parked. A Ford dealer mechanic did look at the door and confirmed the issue as it has still not been fixed. There were no warning signs or issues leading up to the door latch giving way. However there is a current recall on door latches of 2016 Ford Fusions sold in arizona (where the car was bought and still located) with the exact same issue. However, after speaking with the Ford service department they stated that my VIN number was not included in the recall, even though it was the exact same issue.
Right passenger door came open while driving and without warning. The door will not latch to secure the door to the car frame in a closed or secure manner. The door has to be secured with a strap until it can repaired appropriately.
Passenger front door opened while braking at intersection while passenger in seat. Fortunately it did not hit a car next to us. Door had to be held shut by passenger for remainder of trip. Was inspected by Ford dealer and although there is a recall on nearly 250,000 of these door latches to include this specific car for a manufacturing period of 542 days, this car falls outside of it by eighteen days and the dealer wants $832. 00 to fix it.
First of all I drive a 2016 Ford Fusion. Two years ago as I was leaving work my back driver's side door swung open and I thought I forgot to shut it. As I went to attempt to shut it it wouldnt close. My boyfriend had to meet me at work and tie it closed with rope that he had. I contacted Ford and they said they would fix it and charged me almost $500. Now just last week as I get into my passenger side of my car, my boyfriend was driving, as I went to shut the door the same thing happened! it would not close! what if that door lock had broken as we were driving?? I could of fallen out of the car if I didnt have my seatbelt on?? so I do some research online and go back to Ford in delray beach florida. I see that there has been recalls with this exact problem on certain makes and models of Fords! I tell them. That and show the manager and he tells me that my car VIN is not under the recalls! so I tell him than there must be a mistake and my car is supposed to be under that recall and why did I have to pay almost $500 to fix the first door lock that broke?? he looked at me and acted as if he could care less! that is why I am writing you.
Water leaks into the trunk. . Read more...
Trunk opens randomly. As seen on many forums it is a common problem. Ford dealer wanted a diag fee with no promises to fix.
Driver side door latch failed. Unable to close door. Happened exactly a year ago to the passenger door (repair invoice attached).
I am writing to let you know of my current difficulties in fixing my Ford Fusion 2016 that had an issue with the door latch. As this problem prevented the door from closing, which raised a safety concern while driving. A recent recall from Ford under the recall number 20s15 (attached) was released on March 24, 2020, to fix this issue for fiesta, Fusion, and mkz. My car fits exactly the affected vehicle's description in the recall. Yet, the certified dealer and Ford decided not to include this in the recall, and I had to pay out of pocket (attached) as the current condition is not safe to drive the car without fixing the door latch. I believe my car should be included in this recall as it is affected by the same problem they described in their announcement.
The trunk lid randomly pops open on it's own requiring you to stop, get out and close it. It has happened repeatedly both when driving and when the car is parked. It does not seem to happen if all of the doors are locked. When it does happen it obscured the rear view and can create an unsafe situation when you have to stop on the road. It has happened many times over the past year.
- window motor passanger side not working unable to close window. 2023 - sync system not working after battery and key changed by dealership. 2021 - rearview camera no display found - lighter port in console over heats.
Whenever I unlock my vehicle the trunk opens. Sometimes it opens while driving.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph with the rear windows lowered, the rear of vehicle was shaking violently. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was not available.
I entered my vehicle and closed the door. While backing out of the parking lot a warning sounded. I looked at the dash and the warning light indicated that the front driver side door was open. I pulled the door shut and attempted to close it but it wouldn't stay shut. I put the car in "park", got out and attempted several more times to close the door. No matter how I tried, the door would not latch. I was 53 miles from home and the only way to get there was to drive. I then took an adjustable dog leash, slipped it through the armrest on the door, then looped it around the steering column. This provided a means for me to hold the door closed while I traveled on a highway, then the interstate to get home. This was very disturbing to me because the latch was fine when I drove from home. What could have happened had I been on the highway or interstate when the latch failed.
The trunk randomly opens on it's own while parked.
Walked out to my car to notice my driver door was not closed, even though my alarm was set and all doors were locked. Found out the driver door would not latch (recall 20s15) but this particular VIN was supposedly not affected. The service was just completed for $240 at the dealer to replace the latch. This should be included in NHTSA # 20v177000/ Ford recall 20s15.
Trunk opens while driving. After closing he trunk it pops open again, the trunk latch can be heard clicking. It stops after about 10 seconds. Trunk then latches. While car is parked over night the trunk is open some mornings.
The vehicle was stationary but while getting in the vehicle it was noticed that the front passenger door would not close. Dash was reading that door was open, several attempts were made to close the door but no luck. Had to tie it from the inside to keep it from opening while driving.
My car was serviced by koons Ford in balt, MD from may 26th-28th to address a recall that required removal of my engine. After the repair, my car sat in my parking space at home the whole weekend due to covid-19. On the following Monday, June 1st, my car engine exploded on i83 while my husband was using my car to go to work. My car was completely engulfed in fire and totaled. Fortunately, my husband was able to quickly get my car to the side of the road as the cabin started to fill with smoke and jump out. Koons Ford told me that they would "shrink wrap" my car at the lot the police had it towed to and bring it back to "investigate how the fire started. " they lied and then told my insurance company that they did not cause the fire. In addition, while I was there waiting in their lobby, they told me they would "get me a rental" in the meantime while they investigate. Not only did they lie and imply I was responsible for causing the fire, they tried to stiff me for the cost of the rental. Only after I pushed back, they finally paid the rental bill. My insurance company has paid for the cost of my lost car which I now am bearing additional costs in my insurance coverage. My car had only been serviced by koons Ford and was not experiencing any problems prior to them working on the recall. I have been without a car going on 2 months now as I cannot afford to take on another 4-6 years of car payments as I was closing on a new home at the same time the fire happened. I reached out to fmc and they said they would have someone from customer service contact me which ended up to be yet another lie.
Was stopped and parked in a parking lot . When I exited the driver side and closed the door. When I did that the door bounced back. I tried again and it didn't close completely. The door latch is in the unlocked position. It doesn't stay closed, if I was driving and this had happened I or someone else could of been seriously hurt. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.
The car shut off randomly and the check engine light came on. I started the car again and it starts. When I fill up, it starts, but it hesitates to turn off again, and sometimes doesn't come back on. It's something to do with the air in the tank due to it being capless. When it comes to the body, the door alert came on 6/12/2020 stating that the foot was open randomly. I was driving to a nearby store going about 20 mph with the doors locked and fully shut.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at 15 mph when the vehicle's passenger rear door unexpectedly opened without warning. The contact stated she had to manually tie something to keep the door closed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for a diagnosis. The diagnosis was the door latch was not working properly. The vehicle was not repaired and the dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000 tp.
I am fortunate to have been stationary(the vehicle) at the time of the casualty to my 2016 Ford Fusion. I was stopped at a store and after I placed my things in the backseat, I went to close my rear driver side door and it would not close. This happened January 14th, 2020. I will mention that my 2016 Ford Fusion was purchased in September 2016 with only 17 miles on it, brand new at an overseas military vehicle dealership. My vehicle currently only has 18,000 miles on it. As I have no rope or ties in my vehicle, I was left with twisting my arm behind the driver seat and driving home(instead of my destination) with my arm painfully twisted around as to keep the door closed on the road to not hit another vehicle when I braked or turned. I would surmise this as a not positive experience in the pouring rain. Ford has formally told me via their customer care line that my vehicle is not covered under any safety recalls. Ford has stated my $2000 Fordextracare 7 year/75,000 mile extended warranty additionally will not cover this casualty. I've found evidence online that Ford issued recalls for 2013-2015 Ford Fusions for this exact problem. I am concerned as to why my safety concern and very real casualty to my vehicle was valid on this model of car a year prior to mine, but somehow is not now. Can a Ford vehicle with only 18k miles on it at 3 years old be reasonably expected to have the doors break in the open position? I'm being told that it is not a defect of the vehicle and I am to foot the bill for this casualty to the vehicle.
My Ford Fusion 2016 is having a bad issue and it is a dangerous one. So I was driving around with my grandmother and siblings, we had stopped by the supermarket to get some food. And when I finished parking my vehicle both driver and passenger door has opened except for the two rear doors my siblings couldnt get out the car if the handle is pulled outside of the rear door. Its a very dangerous thing because imagine if in a car crash and someone is sitting in the rear sit how are they going to open the door!?. This need a fix.
Drove to work one day in July 2019. Got to work went to close driver door and it would not close. Dove it home with a bungee cord holding the door closed. Took it to dealership later that day and they replaced a latch at no cost to us because it was under extended warranty. Now on August 24th 2019, my mom and daughter and I were shopping and we got to a store, my daughter got out of the rear passenger door and it wouldn't close just like the prior time. This time I am out of warranty so I have to pay approximately $500 to get it fixed and get a rental car so I can get back and forth to work. Both times the vehicle was stopped in park but who knows what would have happened if we were in motion. We did nothing to the doors except open and close them which is what their purpose is! this is ridiculous and seems to be the same issue they have had on this same model from 2013-2015 from what I have read. Please help get this issue taken care of. It is not safe and very expensive to fix.
