Over the last 11 months when I am driving I go to back into a parking spot and the gear shifter gets stuck in neutral and will not move. I have to turn the vehicle off and turn it back on to move it. This leaves me sitting in the middle of the parking lot at risk to get hit.
The car started shaking while driving down the road and when coming to a stop. The gears were not shifting properly. I took it to a mechanic shop and they told me several different things "could" be wrong, supposedly fixed it, $700 for that. Started shaking and shift gear problems again, took it in again and spent $2800 for the supposed fix. Several days later same thing, took it back again and they said to take it to a transmission shop because they couldn't do anymore. Found out there was a recall on the torque and the different mechanic "fixed" that. Now it won't shift into several of the gears. Over $4500. 00 spent! transmission.
This is the rubber bushing problem on the automatic transmission shift system. I saw that recalls were made for Ford Fusion from 2013 to 2016, but 2017 models were excluded which is my own model. I returned home and tried to reverse my car into the parking lot. But it failed. When I attempted to put vehicle back to reverse or drive, vehicle switched back to park. And an error code appeared saying "shift malfunction. " I was charged $501 for the repairs but just saw that this was recall issue for other model years. Thats why I wish to see if Ford can reimburse me for the repairs.
Upon trying to stop at a stop sign my son was unable to stop in time and rolled into the roadway which caused a collision with another vehicle. He depressed the brakes and clearly heard a grinding noise and never felt the pumping feeling under his foot for the antilock breaks. He thought he couldnt stop due to ice on the roadway, but have since seen the brake recall on my vehicle. The accident caused the vehicle to become a total loss. The witnesses said my son stopped at the stop sing and pulled into the roadway in front of car going 50mph. That could not have happened by the angle of the car at the time of the accident. Had he stopped like the 'witnesses" said, he would have entered the roadway a couple second later and then become t-boned by the other car. He was hit on the rear quarterfinal coinciding with my sons story he could not stop. My son has held to his story that he tried to stop and the car would not stop. I have felt on occasion since Dec my brakes feeling a little off at times but never on a consistant basis to get it looked at. My vehicle had a small leakage in Dec which we could not locate and it never occurred since. We checked the brake fluid and all fluids routinely since. Never seen the leak since. I also put four brand new tires on my vehicle two days prior to the accident. It does appear in the photos after the accident there were new parts on the wheel in the area of the brakes. I only owned this vehicle for 9 months prior to this incident.
The car would not start due to the throttlebody failed to operate. Luckily, the car was parked when this occured and had to be towed to nearest Ford dealer. Who informed me if I had been driving and it had failed during operation, car would have come to a dead stop while driving and/or in my case failed to start. They said throttlebody gives the engine the air it needs to preform. We were out of town and due to drive on a main highway for two hundred miles at 70miles per hour! I have included invoices from the Ford dealer, invoice from auto dealer- who had repairs done on car, and the carfax report-that did not show any throttlebody recalls or repairs, nor did the auto dealer's report. The car was certified for 21,953 miles by the state of florida and carfax. How is that a car's throttlebody would fail after 21,000 miles, unless it was already defective in the beginning!?? the reports indicate the vehicle was a 1 owner car and 21,953 miles with passing thru two systems and never detected. I had only owed the car for 61 days under 24,000 miles when it failed!.
Car shut off a few times while driving then restarted. Now it will not start at all. No codes. Replaces everything. Not safe if it cuts off while driving. Called dealer I’m out of warranty. Looked up on forums said this is happening to others also.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling at a red light, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. After several minutes the vehicle restarted, and the contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that coolant was leaking underneath the front end of the vehicle, and there was white smoke coming from the exhaust during the initial startup. The coolant level was low. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA id number: 10210392 (engine and engine cooling, equipment). The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of a misfire in cylinder #2. The contact's father had changed the spark plugs. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the air intake was missing from the vehicle. The contact was informed that the air intake needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and it was confirmed that VIN was included in the NHTSA id number: 10210392 (engine and engine cooling, equipment) however, it was no longer covered due to exceeding the mileage indicated in the TSB. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 86,683.
Defect in left driver rear light. . When it rain water goes into the trunk tire area because of the seal around light.
I didn’t have the car at the time I didn’t know the car facts now I’ve been paying on it & it’s my only transportation I got the car the 5th of Jan. 2023.
The shift cable bushing, which was covered on other Ford vehicles in a recall issued on 15 June 2022, failed on my 2017 Fusion. This occurred while in a parking lot. The car would not start as it was stuck in reverse. I had the issue repaired at a Ford dealer and it cost me $351. This is a known defect yet it would seem as though the scope of the recall was too narrow. Fortunately, the car did not roll away, however, it was a very busy lot and I was stranded in the middle of it until a tow truck could remove it.
On 12/08/2022, my 2017 Ford Fusion started as normal in a busy parking lot, but once I idled/moved just a little, it became locked as if the emergency brake was on (it was not) and would not shift out of park, regardless of trying to put in neutral, reverse, etc. (it would show n or r on the dash, but remained deadlocked in park. ) there was this error message: "shift sys fault service required. " it took several people to push the car to a safe area out of the way of traffic. Had to have the car towed at owner's expense to the closest Ford dealership. There were not other messages or signs of the problem prior to this failure on 12/08/2022. Ford dealer on 12/10/2022 removed and replaced transmission shifter cable bushing and installed cap. Ford dealer agreed that most certainly, this 2017 Ford Fusion has the exact same recall #22s43 that other 2017 Fusions have had. However, when Ford dealer entered this vehicle VIN, nothing showed up in oasis. So I had to pay for this repair out of pocket. Like others have stated, the Ford recall #22s43 is too narrow in scope. So why in the world am I having to pay 100% of the cost to fix the exact same bushing/cap issue (recall 22s43) that others are having with the exact same year, make, & model?!?! just because my VIN wasn't included in Ford's original recall? does not make sense! if it's the same issue as the other vehicles are having (of the same year, make, model) why am I paying for the error and they aren't?.
When shifting from reverse to drive, my car would not shift and instead forced my shifting knob into the park position. The issue was the exact same as the Ford 22s43 recall, where the shifting bushing wears out, however the 2017 Fusion is not included in that recall, despite still having the same bushing. I was forced into park and upon inspection, saw that the shifting solenoid was detached from the transmission. If this happened on a busy street, I would have had a car dead in the middle of the road, possibly causing an accident. Luckily I was not. I bought the new bushing, dg9z-7k340-a, online and fixed it myself, not knowing about the cap that goes with it, so I will not be able to reproduce the issue. I believe I still have the defective bushing and could show it to someone if needed, but no one has looked at it. My car gave a specific warning (can't recall the details) that, when googled, lead me to videos of the exact issue. I believe it happened once before, but somehow after shifting it in park and back into drive, it went away. That was about a week before the full failure. My main concern is that the 22s43 recall does not include enough vehicles for that issue.
Trunk keeps popping open on its own while driving. Has happened at ranging speeds between 5 and 60 mph, different hours throughout the day, temps between 27 and 70 degrees f. The key fob is in clear site, on its own no one holding or any chance of button being pressed. Has also happened while in park, car not running. Came outside and it's open, also no chance of key fob being pressed. Happens multiple times per day. Removed all objects from truck, nothing on inside pressing or near safety release or blocking latch. Duplicated with different drivers and passengers present.
I took my car to the Ford dealer today for a oil change and was told that the lug nuts were defective and had to be replaced. They charged me $237. 40 to replaced them. I have a extended warranty and they told me they were not cover under this warranty. Checking on line I find there is a large number of vehicle that have the same problem with the same lug nuts. Why is not a recall on these lug nuts.
Shifter cable bushing wore out, and now shifter cable keeps detaching.
I have a 2. 0l engine with a 6-speed engine. My daughter was on the highway going about 60mph and her car started shaking very badly and eventually shut off. It turns out that it does in fact have something to do with her studs not being welded correctly, and her transmission mounts failed causing the engine and transmission to move rapidly under the hood of her car not being held in place.
Stopped vehicle at a drive though and put in in park. Afterword would not shift into drive, only in reverse. Had to back all the way through a parking lot to find a safe place to try to park as not to be in the way of other vehicles. Fortunately, at the time no one was parked behind me. After turning off the car, it would not start again and had to have the vehicle towed to a dealership for repair. There is a recall on many Ford vehicles for this exact same issue due to a shift cable bushing, but for some reason not on this particular vehicle. No warning lights appeared before the issue, only after I killed the car and tried to restart it.
While driving the vehicle the vehicle stalls or stops when attempting to shift to either reverse or drive. An alert comes on indicating shifter issues then vehicle was inoperable. Had to call for a wrecker to have it towed due to the issue. Left us stranded in a parking lot away from home. Local certified mechanic advised it was bushings, shifter cable to the transmission that went bad on the vehicle. He said there was a recent recall from Ford, so I contacted Ford by phone. I was told that my vehicle even though it is the exact same recall from Ford issue with my car, my VIN number was not included into the recall by Ford. I'm having to repair my car on my own at my cost.
The shift bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission has degraded then subsequently detached in the past in 2021. In 2022 after the shift bushing was replaced, it has now degraded again (without detaching yet) causing the vehicle to be stuck in reverse or drive after shifting vehicle. This has caused me on multiple occasions to place the vehicle in reverse to backup into the roadway and become stuck without the ability to shift the vehicle out of reverse. The only way to correct it was to turn off the vehicle to force it into park then start the car to place it into drive. This same thing occurred in the previous time before it detached. Being stuck in the roadway without the ability to shift is very dangerous. This is all due to having a 3 dollar shift bushing degrade over time. I hope Ford takes this seriously and replaces this shift bushing with a safer alternative.
As I was driving my shifter cable bushing came off in the parking lot and my cable came loose. I couldn’t switch gears and I had to shut off my car. It put my car into automatic parking brake but I checked under the hood and my shifter linkage was detached and the bushing was missing. Had this happened on the open road it could’ve caused a wreck. These bushings are made poorly.
While driving, the dashboard goes black. When this happened, I slowed down to stop. After I’m almost stopped, the engine stops and spins the gear shift into park making grinding noise as cars do when they go into park before coming to a complete stop. This has happened twice.
The car will not shift. The car will start but I cannot shift from park to neutral or drive.
Trunk randomly opens while driving. This has now happened 10-15 times over the past couple of years. I was unaware of NHTSA until researching the problem tonight after it most recently happened or I would have reported sooner.
Got gas and put car in drive and the shift knob went to park automatically . Tried to put car in drive again and same result happened. The ?? picture showed on my dash and I researched it and found it was the bushing on shift cable had broke. The car was totally disabled from driving. The 2016 Fusion had recall on this but I have a 17 and the Ford dealership is not finding a current recall for the bushing on my car.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled upon the depression of the accelerator pedal with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where a mechanic was able to reset the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact was then notified by the dealer that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v427000 (power train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Trunk unlatches itself when car is unlocked, has happened when backing out of driveway, it doesn’t do it for a few weeks then starts back up again,.
Shift linkage keep detaching from the the transmission causing the transmission too slip. It detaches often it’s been going on for 2 months now. I called Ford dealership to see have they heard of this problem and they answer was no. It might be a recall on this vehicle.
I was driving on the highway and my sun roof popped out of the car. The glass sun roof literally snapped off the frame and flew out of the car.
Transmission becoming unplugged causing vehicle to not shift properly or not at all. Vehicle was put into reverse made it about 5 feet and couldn't shift into any other gear after that.
I pulled straight into my garage, put the car in park, took my foot off of the brake pedal, and the car drove forward. If there wasn't a pole in between the car and the garage wall, it would have gone through the wall.
Vehicle keeps randomly showing a shift system fault when I go to drive and a piece that should connect to the transmission to allow the vehicle to shift into gear keeps disconnecting causing the car to stay in park and the emergency brake to stay on.
Driving 70mph on highway when car shut down. No power and no brakes. Was able to get onto shoulder and car automatically went from d into p on its own once it came to complete stop. Car restarted and was able to finish trip with no other problems. Very scary and dangerous.
I was driving home one night on gordon dr in ruston, louisiana when an animal entered the road so I steered to the left to avoid the animal and suddenly loss control of steering. This caused me to crash into a ditch with a cement drain. My car proceeded to drag on the ground so I did not drive it and reported it to insurance and it was declared totaled.
Turned car on and immediately received the shift sys fault service required warning. Car would not go into gear as well as the parking brake would not go off. Attempted to utilize the key hole in the center console, did not assist at all. Tow truck moved car to the house for us. The car was stationary during the attempting to move into drive.
Shift dial get stuck in park, will not shift out of park even with the override, have had it looked at twice, both times there was "no problems," and the shop always it works when the tow truck drops it off. It happens on and off, never gives an error message or throws a code. Could be driving one minute, get home, shut the car off, a couple hours later get back in, and it doesn't shift anymore. It's extremely inconvenient and considering the Ford dealership says "this happens a lot" I don't understand why they don't recall the faulty cable or relay or transmission or shift dial if it happens all the time, because after taking it to 3 different shops, they all have no answer to the issue, just to "deal with it". And the fact that the override doesn't work is a big problem. But Ford does their thing and I guess won't recall something they know is a problem on many of their 2017 Ford Fusion se's even though it's a safety issue but I guess that's Ford, more about pumping crap cars out than they are worried about making them safe when the same problem occurs on multiple 2017 Ford Fusions.
