The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion . The contact stated that while parked under direct sunlight the control panel on both sides of the steering wheel melted and cracked. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and directed the contact to NHTSA due to no open recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact's daughter owned a 2006 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she noticed that the steering had locked, making it difficult to control the vehicle. As a result of losing control of the vehicle, the contact's daughter was struck on the driver's side by another vehicle, after which the driver's side airbags failed to deploy. The passenger-side airbags did deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it remains. No warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter was taken to the er and treated for injuries to her head, left shoulder, and left leg. The other driver was also transported to the er and treated for undisclosed injuries. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was undisclosed.
