Driving on city street, speed limit 45, unable to normally accelerate - did so extremely slowly - noticed wrench indicator light and stop safely warning light both on. Car would only accelerate to 40mph despite pressing gas pedal down completely. Could not drive to work as it required highway driving up to 60 mph and couldn't risk danger of slow or stalling vehicle. Research indicates this is well known to Ford (faulty throttle body) and was partially accommodated with extended warranty (13n03) but otherwise eligible hybrid vehicles not covered by that program. Dangerous issue + known to manufacturer = eventual lawsuit.
Well it started early this year. When driving the car some time lose speed. It slow dow to it feel like car not on. Then it happens sometimes on highway be driving then it just start losing acceleration. I have turn car on and off for fee time then it seem go for fee. Then lose power. Now my car was sitting idle for while now it won't accelerate at all few people said it in safe mode no acceleration at all turn car. On and no speed when pushing pallal down.
Out of no where my power steering light came on and it is very hard to turn.
Ford fusion energi, did its low powered state again, this time on the free way, dropping rapidly from 75mph to 22mph and barely able to maintain that speed. The display showed the safety features becoming deactivated. Something new though, the headlights went out and the console dimmed and was barely readable, I turned on my hazards and I hope they where working, either way I was fortunate enough to avoid a rear end collision and got the vehicle off the road. This about 7th time Ford will work on the vehicle, and another week or more without a vehicle, waiting for the next available appointment. These fusions are becoming the new Ford pinto. I really hope that several people don't have to die, before Ford is forced to recall these death traps.

While driving 65mph on a back road leaving harris CO. My car started to speed up without me pressing the paddle and when I pushed the brakes I had to push it several times before it would work and slow down the car. It pretty much made us jerk forward when the brakes started to work. I have never had this happen until Wednesday oct. 24, 2018 and don't know who to contact. I had my daughter and niece in the car coming from my son football game. That was scary and I hope it don't happen again.
Throttle body malfunctions causing loss of acceleration when driving. Ford issued an extended warranty for my make, model, & year as part of a previous NHTSA investigation, but nothing shows up for my VIN.
We had to have the throttle body replaced on our Ford Fusion Hybrid 2011 because the orange wrench light came up on the dash and the car shuddered and was not safe to drive. We also had to pay to have it towed. Ford's "customer satisfaction program 13n03" covers the fusion 2011 model but explicitly does not cover the hybrid. Apparently they do not want their hybrid customers to be satisfied. It is very unsafe that the throttle body can fail at highway speeds, and allowing Ford to wait until it has failed to replace it, and refusing to cover the cost for hybrid models, is unacceptable. The vehicle was in motion at low speed when it failed.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving, the vehicle inadvertently began to shake violently and lost power. The was able to pull the vehicle over and the power train fault and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to prestige Ford (17701 us-441, mt dora, FL 32757 (352) 357-5522) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body power train malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
While driving at 65 mph yellow wrench light appeared and vehicle lost all power. This was on a busy highway. Pulled over and restarted car. Vehicle operated smoothly. Two days later same issue, now with yellow wrench and check engine light. Vehicle will not accelerate above 30 mph. I took my vehicle to local auto parts store and pulled codes myself (115) dollars cheaper then the dealership would have done it. Throttle body control failure. This is the same engine that has extended warranty for alot of VIN numbers but my car has this issue amd isnt covered.
Starting in late July, 2017, the car stalls when being driven relatively slowly. Sometimes a wheezing noise can be heard at the time of stalling. Over the last approx. 2+ weeks, the frequency of stalling has increased, but it seems erratic or random. The car does start right up again after such as stall, but I am afraid to drive at highway speeds. Unfortunately, the Ford dealer to whom I took it could not reproduce or diagnose the problem and doesn't want to consider looking into it.
Vehicle lost power while cruising around 70 mph on freeway. Dashboard displayed a wrench icon and instructions to "refer to manual". All displays, climate control, and entertainment system still functional. Vehicle had minimal engine power, not enough to accelerate or maintain freeway speed but enough to exit freeway and pull over into a parking lot. Turning car off and restarting after five minutes restored all normal function, but check engine light turned on. Car functioned normally (aside from check engine light) the next day and was driven to dealership for check engine light diagnosis. Diagnosis was a broken electronic throttle body, described as a "known issue", which was replaced.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to repair the throttle body; however, the contact was informed that the repair was not part of a recall and was outside of the extended warranty due to the vehicle being a hybrid. The contact was inquiring about reimbursement eligibility. The failure mileage was 37,500.
I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when two wrench symbols appeared on the dashboard. Within a few minutes, the car began to decelerate quickly and lost power. I had to pull over to the shoulder to avoid an accident. It is the same issue that Ford has extended the warranty for with regard to the non-hybrid Ford fusion model. Also there are many similar complaints that hybrid owners are reporting on the internet. I do not know why the extended warranty does not apply to the hybrids as it is the same issue. The dealer told me that the throttle body must be replaced in my car and they also have to reprogram the powertrain code.
My 2010 Fusion Hybrid began a no-start/stalling condition. It has happened six times now. First occurrence was after fueling at low speed after entering street. Second occurrence was while traveling on the highway at 55 mph. Third occurrence was while exiting the interstate. Fourth occurrence was at low speed. Fifth occurrence was immediately after refueling while still in parking lot. And sixth occurence was also immediately after refueling just after leaving gas station at low speed. Four of the six occurrences was a failure for the internal combustion engine to start after the electric motor had already began moving the vehicle. The other two occurrences was while coasting. In all instances there would be a red triangle warning message to pull over safely, no codes were thrown according to the engineering report, no issues reported via the vehicle health report, the vehicle was traveling in a mostly level and straight line, and the vehicle would usually reset and run normally after the first or second attempt at restarting once the vehicle was pulled over.
I experience rapid deceleration of my vehicle when going over 60mph on the highway. The wrench services light came on, as well as the check engine light, and the accelerator stopped responding at all. I have found many instances of this happening in other Ford vehicles, including the fusion, but am told by Ford that the hybrid has not been affected and therefore there is no recall or repair assistance. However, clearly this same part in my vehicle, the Fusion Hybrid, is experiencing issues.
I was driving 55 mph on a 4 lane divided highway with eco cruise on when the vehicle just started to slow. No error light on the dash other than a brief flicker of the air bag warning light, all electronics, brakes and steering seemed to be working, but the accelerator pedal was very slack and there was no response when I repeatedly floored it. I rolled to the shoulder, turned the vehicle off and then on again, and it seemed to be working ok. It has not happened again in approximately 200 miles of driving, mostly at highway speed. However, it is the kind of event that causes one to worry about the vehicle safety - especially as this vehicle has already had 4 recalls for other types of issues.
My vehicle - from a stopped position - accelerated on its own to 40 mph (rather quickly). However, the gas pedal was not engaging (ie. Depressing). This occurred at lunchtime on 17-Jun-2016. All trouble lights on the dash lit-up. The behavior continued until I shut the vehicle off at the dealer (elder Ford in troy, mi). I was unable to engage the throttle at all; it was essentially ¿dead¿, even though my vehicle was accelerating to 40 mph and maintaining that speed. Braking response was diluted because the car was self-propelling (imagine trying to brake while also applying gas). I took it to the dealer immediately and showed them the videos that I took. I also sent the videos to them. I have been told today that they will be giving the vehicle back without any repairs because they could not replicate the problem. I have the videos in my possession, should NHTSA like to see them. I have had several issues over the last 1. 5 years that I have owned the vehicle. I can send repair records.
I was driving the car about 60 mph on the highway when I saw a big red triangle on the display saying "pull over and stop safely" and the car slowed down dramatically. I did that and turned off the engine. I restarted the car. This occurred 8 more times before I got home (15 miles later). When I got home, I noticed that the car's fan was running very high for several minutes. It finally stopped.
My daughter has her learner's permit and was driving my Ford Fusion Hybrid on a 45 mph street. The wrench light came on and the car would not accelerate as she was driving up a hilly part of the street. Cars began honking and passing and my daughter became extremely nervous. Thankfully, we were not involved in a car accident but she was quite shaken by the incident. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealership to have it repaired and was advised this was not a recall even though there are several thousand complaints and issues. I had to have the throttle body replaced which is apparently a defective part. I don't understand why there isn't a recall for this defect. I understand the NHTSA considers safety a huge factor when recalling parts. However, the part is clearly defective and has cost consumers greatly. Please reconsider recalling or at least subsidizing the payment for those affected by this defective part.
When operating the car on the freeway, the car suddenly lost power and only could achieve 45 mph in spite of the accelerator being floored. When eventually stopped, the engine would surge and shudder periodically. The check engine light came on. Pulling the trouble code revealed p2112 which is a throttle body error.
Vehicle was on the highway when the throttle closed. I suddenly could not get to a speed above 25 mph. Fortunately I was able to get to an exit without being hit, and limped to the Ford dealer where I bought it. It is my understanding that other Ford fusions of that year had an extended warranty created when they had the same flaw; it even triggered the same code (p2112). This problem seems to extend, then, to hybrids, although Ford currently does not include them.
I was cruising along a major urban highway @ 50mph when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. Car lost speed and went to 45 then down to 40 and I was unable to accelerate. Luckily traffic was light and I was able to cross the two lanes over to the right and exit the main road and limped along to a stop in a safe area. Dealership had to replace the throttle body and motor. Was not covered by Ford's csp 13n03 which had been issued for a similar problem. Was told the program did not apply to the hybrid model, and yet it was the same problem described in the NHTSA action number pe 13003!.
When driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph, the wrench indicator light ("limp home" mode) suddenly started flashing, and the gas pedal abruptly became unresponsive—the vehicle would no longer accelerate and could only coast. The abruptly decelerating vehicle was maneuvered across multiple lanes of traffic to the shoulder and turned off. Upon restarting the vehicle after a minute, it was able to resume normal operation for about 15 minutes, when the problem reoccurred, and the same steps were taken. It occurred again 90 minutes later. Symptoms correspond to other accounts of electronic throttle body issues, but Ford says that the vehicle is not covered under any recalls, extended warranties, or customer safety programs.
While driving at speed car suddenly slows with a jerk. A wrench light comes on the dash. Throttle control/powertrain malfunction light and engine light illuminates. Car goes into "limp mode". Can't go over low speeds. Car is unsafe to drive.

The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 104,000.
This car is the second Fusion Hybrid I have. The 2015 and 2016 hybrid titanium had the same issues. I changed one for the other in hope the problem would be gone. Almost everytime I drive in low speeds, circa 15mph up to 30mph on unleveled pavement with setts the following lights turn advance trac, abs, hill assistant control. Whilst those lights are on, none of those functions works. As it happened in 2015 and still happens in my 2016. I've complaint to Ford, but they never gave me a solution. I believe it is software problems in abs module. But no up to date calibration files have resolved this issue. It happens frequently, so I will input the first time it happened with the older car (2015). I know that NHTSA have been investigating a similar issue with 2009 to 2011 fusions. But I have no idea about the closure of those cases neither whether there is any other investigation going on. I live in brazil, but here, the government and Ford do not care about customers as USA cares. So I hope that an investigation in USA could oblige Ford of brazil make the repairs to fusions sold here as well. I will input an address of relatives who live in san francisco. Driving at night, freeway with street lights, very light traffic, car on speed control at 65 mph; about 50 to 75 yards in front of vehicle a plastic shopping bag flew across road approximately 2 to 3 feet above road surface, vehicle sensed the bag, speed control slammed brakes hard enough to set off abs system. Same situation happened a few month later except in the daylight, car slowed dramatically for a plastic bag blowing across the road but did not activate abs system. Talked to representatives at two different Ford dealerships but they indicated that they never heard anything like this. Left my name/number but never heard anything back.
Good afternoon, I want to bring this to your attention. I don't know if it's a problem with Ford or with me. So please bear with me. I just purchased the above vehicle about 3 weeks ago. It is brand new. This vehicle comes with a feature called "active park assist. " it is new to me and have never owned a vehicle with this feature previously. Yesterday, I used it for the first time. I turned it on and let it parallel park for me. I followed the directions on the vehicle video screen and took my hands of the wheel. The vehicle then backed into the space and struck the car parked behind. Needless to say, I was stunned. The directions in Ford's manual are somewhat, at least from my perspective, unclear. On page 180, it says "the driver is responsible for avoiding hazards and maintaining a safe distance and speed, even when the system is in use. " on page 182, the manual states "if your vehicle speed exceeds 6mph, the system switches off and you need to take full control of your vehicle. " I'm still unclear as to whether the brakes are operated by the vehicle during parking assist or me. For now, I'm not using it. Thank you for looking at this. Regards,.
First time, check engine light came on when driving on highway but no apparent impact to car's functioning. Took it to the dealer. They said that the surge valve needed to be replaced at a cost of $500 "to start with", but they didn't seem very sure about it so I chose not to proceed. The check engine light had gone back off and the car was driving fine. About two weeks later on a Saturday I was driving on the highway again, at about 65 mph, when the car seemed to lose acceleration. Standing on gas pedal produced no result. Exited and was able to drive on battery power to pull over. After waiting for about 30 minutes, tried again. Check engine light was back off and car drove normally back home. Took to my regular mechanic first thing that Monday. They found oil in the intake manifold and questioned whether I had taken the car anywhere unusual for servicing, which I had not, unless you count the dealer. Did repairs at a cost of $2000. One week later, exact same thing. Car is back in shop, awaiting results.
While braking using light to medium pressure (and, thus, while the car is using regenerative braking), if I hit a pothole or bump just right, the car will surge forward as if the accelerator was pushed. (and, of course it wasn't. ) the problem is relatively intermittent, but that doesn't mean it is nonexistent. Quite the opposite; it can be recreated as long as the conditions are correct (as described above). Even when you recreate the exact conditions, it is still intermittent (but, again, that doesn't mean nonexistent). Ford has looked at the problem repeatedly and deemed it "unable to recreate. " this is a falsehood; the problem was recreated once with a dealer driving the car. Also, Ford gave me a data recorder unit and, using that, I was able to recreate the problem while the recorder ran. When they retrieved the data, Ford claimed the car "performed as expected. " Ford refused to explain whether that meant the car did not surge or whether it appeared to surge, but the surge appeared to be called for. Ford refused to release the raw "flight recorder" data to me. Ford refuses to further address this problem. Out-of-control surging is a dangerous and serious problem and this problem remains unresolved. I have document every step of the way as I have attempted to resolve this. I attach below a letter I wrote a year ago that both details what I had been through and the problem itself. I would be happy to provide much more. The date I put below is only an approximation. I'm not sure exactly when it started, but it has been going on for years.
Drive by wire throttle body failed, causing car to loss all power on crowded highway at high speed. Had to cross several lanes of heavy traffic to get to off highway safely. Barely avoided several accidents trying to get pulled out of traffic lanes.
Ford hybrid would not accelerate. It did not go above 30 mph in heavy traffic. I was lucky a Ford dealer was nearby. It was dangerous crossing a major intersection. Service department said it was the electronic throttle body. Nhtsa is aware of this problem but allowed Ford to limit their recall to a limited customer satisfaction program. The problem may not present itself for many miles. My car is beyond warranty and I called Ford. They said I was not covered in their limited program because my car was made at a plant where they claim no problems exist. I asked if the part was made at the plant. Ford cs declined to assist me. I was responsible for the cost of repair. The money is not important. My wife was driving and she was put in a precarious position on the highway. This seems to be the response of automakers. I suffered through the 2007 Toyota camry lies and bought this Ford. In the minds of automakers, I suppose they would say it is just my bad luck. Toyota lied, Ford evaded their responsibility.
