general problems of the 1996 Ford Mustang

Three problems related to power train have been reported for the 1996 Ford Mustang. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2008

I had bought the car in 2008 and two months later the intake manifold(oem) developed a crack and has a result antifreeze was being burnt which caused a misfire on the 3rd cylinder and the check engine light then started to flash (indicated misfire) drove it home took it to the dealer and installed a new intake manifold which had updated features to prevent the incident from happening again the failure could have resulted in a blown up engine it was common in 1996-2001 Ford 4. 6l 2v v8 motors.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2000

Purchased car used with 28,232. Today, 9/5 after returning from vacation, travelling at least 280 miles - going thru 1-1/2 tanks of gas, car registers 28,332. Trip odometer only 7 (reset at fill-up). Noticed trip had said 90 at last fill-up. That's when noticed a problem and watched. Carfax report shows last mileage 24,143 8/99 then registered in alabama 10/99 - no mileage. Back in CA 8/00 where I purchased it. Have not contacted dealer yet. Want to know options first.

3 Power Train problem

Odometer does not operate properly.
