The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
At 40 mph engine revved and vehicle accelerated. Consumer applied brakes but could not slow vehicle fast enough. Rearended another vehicle, no injuries, damage to vehicle unknown.
Vehicle "lunged" or accelerated upon final parking (near stop) with foot off accelerator and on brake. Car jumped over "parking bump" curb and hit shrubs, small tree approx 40 ft. Driver had no control. Dealer investgated said Ford is aware of problem and there is "no fix'. Stated engine can increase significantly during warmup. Defroster was on. Driver suffered injured rt arm and neck. No front impact. Underacarriage has minor damage only. No fatalities or other injuries.
Throttle does not return to idle when you take your foot off the pedal.
While traveling on highway vehicle will not accelerate. Vehicle will surge and hesitate when in traffic.
