36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

The speedometer sticks at approx 60,40,35 mph. It will use that as zero so if it sticks at 60. And you are going 60 it will read 120. Ford says that I should replace the instrument panel. There are numerous other 2005 Mustang v6 owners who have the same problem.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

My speedometer was reading a lower speed than I was actually driving. It was confirmed with a speed radar sign. My speedometer gauge was off by 15 mph. I checked online and noticed there were many other owners with the same defect. I contacted Ford regarding the issue and they told me there wasn't any recall for my car. I did some more research and found out the steppers in the cluster gauge have been known to go bad.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

My engine overheated when it cooled down I checked the cooling fan connectors and discovered they have melted now the fan won't operate.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2013

Speedometer and rpm gauges faulty. Speedometer starts at 140 when vehicle is stopped and climbs till it is vertically facing down. Rpm gauge does not work.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

Driving on highway 55mph, car shut down and could not restart. Towed to shop, they say needs a new computer. $1,300. 00 repair. They car is 8 years old and only has 9100 miles on it.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Automatictransmission has trouble shifting into low gear. Doesn't want to accelerate after stopping. Sounds as if it is stuck in a gear. Have read many complaints about this online and Ford just claims it isn't their problem. Also, all gauges quit working at approx 70,000 miles. Fuel system is terrible. Will not pump gas past half a tank and spits gas back out while pumping like its full. Causes pump to constantly shut off. All of these are incredibly dangerous and makes this car unsafe to drive.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The speedometer gauge is stuck around 100 mph when the car is not moving. The gauge then moves from that point once the car is in motion.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

The instrument gauges on my 2005 Mustang gt started to fail. First the speedometer and then the fuel and temperature gauges. Only the tachometer remains functional. This is a serious safety hazard as there is no way to accurately measure how fast your going. This can be a big issue on rain soaked, icy or otherwise hazardous highways where knowing your speed is crucial to safe operation of your vehicle. Ford is obviously not standing behind their product and will not fix the problem without a recall, unless I pay up 1,000 dollars. . . Then wait for the same thing to occur again. Nhtsa has the power to issue the recall if safety is an issue. How can it not be? how many have to be maimed or injured before you issue the recall and demand that Ford fix this problem?.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

On this day the oil temperature gauge stopped functioning correctly. In the following months the rpm gauge, the fuel level gauge, and speedometer have stopped functioning correctly and read the wrong information.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

The vehicles tachometer has failed and no longer properly measures the vehicles rpms. It is probably caused by a failed motor in the gauge cluster.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

Dash cluster stops working no fuel, temp, no speed. Sometimes everything stops working. If I restart car it seems to reset its self. When trying to fill up gas tank it won't allow fuel to go in shuts pump off splashes out, found that if I hold fuel nozzle upside down I can get some gas in but takes about 10-15 mins to fill tank. These problems occur every week. I have not received notice yet of recall for airbag. Ford should recall gas tank problem and dash clusters seems like 2005 years have issues!.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

Left side of dash cluster ( tach and fuel gauge ) both stopped working. Must replace entire cluster to fix .

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

I have a 2005 Ford Mustang and the instrument panel stopped working properly. According to the gauge, I was going 120 mph!! then the lights, radio, and doors stopped working. I notice there are a lot of this make and model with the same problem. It's very irritating to have to borrow a car to get to work and back. I've always driven Mustangs and never had a problem before, so this took me by surprise. Maybe I should look at a Honda or chevy.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2013

I was at a stop sign. . . While driving in first gear about to switch to second. . . The car rpm redline. . Everyone who has this car manual knows that this car chirps 2nd gear with or without tcs on. . . It was like power shifting without using the gas pedal. . The car was sideways. . Brakes wouldn't work. . Tried to get the car straight again but the car whipped around the other way and did a 180. . . Long story short. . . . Totaled!!!.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, she noticed that all of the gauges on the instrument panel were not operating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

Fuel gauge, speedometer and digital read out. Comments: hello, I am having significant problems with the speedometer on my 2005 Ford Mustang v6. This is by no means an isolated problem. Speedometer jumps to anywhere between 20 to 80 mph and remains at 20 to 80. I have seen it on every forum that I could find and in large numbers. I have noticed is it seems to be more prevalent when it is below 40f degrees outside. The same thing happened with the fuel gauge so I filled the tank, but the gas gauge still shows 1/4 tank. This is a safety issue and there needs to be resolve before someone gets hurt, if not already. I checked Ford site, there are no recalls on this I'm surprised they haven't had a recall yet.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

I got the car @42,500 or so miles. There was a bad puddle of water after it rained. Near the Smart junction box is where it appears to be getting in. I have read alot of complaints online about this issue. For sure a defect that Ford should fix. . . As another person on this site mentioned, I am sure that major electrical damage could potentially take place (I forced myself to cover the car at all times). The gas tank is difficult to fill up all the way. I cannot simply pull the gas pump "trigger" and lock it. The pump stops, due to the trigger being "tripped" (as if the tank was full). So I have to hold down the trigger again (the fuel pump usually gets "triggered" 20 times per every filling of the tank). Super annoying and a known defect that needs a new gas tank to be corrected. How does Ford not correct this?.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated while driving 40 mph the speedometer began to show 20 mph. The car was parked and later the it worked as designed. The gas gauge then began to register empty no matter how much gas was put into the fuel tank. The left turn signal began to blink at an unusually high rate of speed. The contact did research and found out that there may be a failure with the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 76,000. The VIN was unavailable. Dt.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2012

The instrument cluster on my '05 gt stopped working. It will sometimes show that I am driving at 120 mph when I am in first gear and in my driveway. Other times it goes 25 mph on the freeway in fifth gear. This is a serious safety issue as you never know how fast you are driving.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

Fuel gauge reading past empty, will not show any change in fuel level. Other gauges showing same signs of failing. Internet has many companies that will fix the gauge cluster, so it must be a common problem with Mustangs. Also the led daytime lighting on the dashboard gauges is very low not able to read the speedometer or other gauges.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauges malfunctioned. As a result, the contact was unable to read the level of fuel or the speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the instrument cluster was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 87,000. Pm.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

I was traveling down the highway and the speedometer went to 0 mph and has not worked properly since that time. My on-line research has revealed that this problem is quite common with this make and year of car and stems from Ford installing substandard stepper motors on the instrument cluster gauge circuit boards. This is a safety issue in that I cannot gauge my road speed while moving down the highway. Ford should be forced to recall these vehicles and make the necessary repairs since this is a safety issue and Ford is aware of the problem.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the speedometer failed to provide accurate speed readings while traveling 55 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

At first the back up lights would flash on then go off when vehicle was placed in reverse and stay off even while still in reverse. The tach would show you doing about 800 rpm's no matter the speed and when I backed it in the garage after returning from Ford, the tach showed 9000 rpm while in park and key off. Vehicle studders when driving like its starving for fuel, Ford told me all of this is related to the sjb. They say it's corroded from coffee or some fluid getting on it. I have an extended warranty but they wont call it in because the text said it was coffee but would not say how the coffee got up behind the kick panel (pass side) under dash area. Ford has TSB 08-26-7, but wont repair at their expense and no recalls issued, even though it only occurs after the warranty expires.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2012

First the gas gauge hand would stay on empty even when filling up or it would go straight down way past the full mark. Never know how much gas I have. Now the speedometer is not working properly. It will either stay at 0mph while I'm driving or say I'm going 20-30mph when the car is shut off and not even running. At times it says I'm going 110mph when I'm driving through town which is a 35mph and clearly I am not driving 110mph. I find this to be a great hazard to other drivers since I never know how fast I'm going. After doing internet research it seems many Mustang owners have this same issue. I feel that having a defective speedometer is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed if safety is really important to the NHTSA.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

The temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and speedometer began malfunctioning. Now if car gets hot the fuel and temperature gauges cease to operate and the speedometer fluxuates between not working to being somewhere between 0 and 30 mph to fast or slow. Ford said it wasn't a warranty repair and I received two estimates between $500 and $700 to repair the problem. Looking at the various Ford Mustang forum sites I have observed hundreds of owner's with the same problem for the 2005-2009 Mustang. As this is my wife's car, and I don't have the funds right now we have had to park the car since it is too dangerous to drive not knowing the car speed, if it is over heating, or running out of fuel.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2012

Gauges stopped working. Tachometer, speedometer, gas gauge, temperature gauge. Ford dealer told me over $600. 00 to replace/repair. I've talked to several other Mustang owners and they have the same problem.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2012

Started out with speedometer, then the car would startone day but not the next now any thing that is electrical does not work checked online and there are several complants about this . Ford knows about the problem but will nothing about it.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

My tachometer and my temperature gauge are both not working. The motor that moves the needle has gone bad and I researched it and many people are having this same problem! please look into it because many Mustang owners are fed up. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

At about 80,000 miles my tachometer gauge dial stopped working. At about 90,000 miles my temperature gauge dial stopped working. At about 100,000 miles my fuel gauge stopped working.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

The instrument gauges are not working properly. The speedometer will often stick at 0-20mph while it is well over that. The temperature gauge is also stuck on cold even when the car has been warmed up for quite some time.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Gauge cluster not operational. Speedometer inaccurate. While sitting at a stand still will read 70 mph, or other measurements. Tachometer not functioning a majority of the time. Sits below 0 at all times of operation.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

My 2005 Ford Mustang temperature gauge read hot, into the red warning section. I drove it immediately to auburn Ford. They kept the car for 4 hours and told me I needed a new thermostat. I had it replaced. The problem persisted and I went back twice. The Ford dealership again said there was no problem and to ignore it. Within a month my speedometer failed and said I was traveling at 120 mph when I was going approx. 55 mph. Then the instrument gauges started to all give inaccurate information. To not know how fast you are driving, to not know if your car is over heating is dangerous. I have since learned that this problem is happening alot with other 2005 Mustangs. Why is this not being fixed by Ford for free?? read "mustang monthly" on the web and see all the people experiencing this pragmatic and dangerous non recall issue. This should be a recall and shame on Ford for charging me for something I did not need and the problem should not be ignored. This is my 4th Ford but most likely my last! hope you do something about it.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2011

Driving on highway engine light came on then fuel gauge went to 0 and speedometer down to 10 miles per hour and gauge flickered back up to 35. . Almost causing an accident not knowing what was happening. Past 6 months when fueling my car gas pump keeps kicking off, not sure if it could cause a fire, takes 15 minutes to fuel up. I will never buy a Ford again.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

Back in 2011 my thermo gauge showed car was over heating when it was not. I had vehicle looked at and there was no indication that car was running hot. This would happen occassionally not an everyday occurance. Then this past winter it started it again and then my speedometer started showing that I was traveling at high rates of speed or would not work at all. The same thing happens with the gas gauge it works when it wants to. After doing some research I found out that I am not the only one with these problems. It seems to happen in states where weather becomes extremely cold and then when it warms back up everything works. This should be a recall.
