1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

Daughter was driving north on wilma rudolph blvd at 45-50 mph in clarksville, tennessee and attempted to slow down when brakes did not apply. She attempted to go around the vehicle in front of her direction of travel and rear-ended the vehicle on the right front passenger quadrant. Upon rear-ending the vehicle, she hit her head on the steering wheel then a split second later as her head was returning to the upright position the airbag deployed. The air bag deployed "after" and "late". This airbag was part of a Ford recall and had been replaced at our local dealership. Additionally, the vehicle had the brake system serviced in December of 2018 and we had informed the dealership of brake system feeling "spongy". The dealership could not find any issues with the system.

I was going 25 mph about to make a left turn at stop sign let off gas stepped on brakes it did not slow down pushing harder I felt like it was on the rotors but did not slow down till a BMW hit my front end. I have had same issues with steering wheel wobble when brakes applied sometimes. I put new front wheel bearings and rotors and swapped wheels around it still wobbled sometimes and sometimes not. I suspect problem with traction control system.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

While traveling to work I unknowingly approached a patch of black ice at speed of 35mph. Upon realizing the road condition I lifted throttle to coast over the ice in an attempt to safely decelerate. The rear wheels locked causing an uncontrollable slide. The car rotated 90 degrees right before stopping in the middle of the road. I maneuvered the car to the side of the road to inspect for damage and find the cause. The right rear brake disc was glowing red. It had unknowingly been dragging. When I lifted throttle, the icy condition in conjunction with the dragging passenger rear brake caused the passenger rear tire to lock unexpectedly. The car has a positive engagement differential, this caused the opposite wheel to lock. This caused the car to be uncontrollable when throttle was not applied on icy patches of road, at any speed. I slowly navigated the car to a near by gas station and called off from work. After becoming aware of the condition, I was able to very slowly drive the car home. After some research, I found that this is a known issue to Ford motor company. The same condition that causes the problem described in Ford TSB 06-5-4 "park brake cables that freeze in cold weather due to water intrusion, and subsequently lead to dragging rear brakes" are also conditions that if unknowingly driven in, could cause a loss of control with fatal consequences to the driver, other drivers, and pedestrians.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

On Monday February 24 2014 at around 12:45pm, I was on my way home from work. I was sitting in my 2006 Ford Mustang gt in bumper to bumper traffic due to construction on the grand central parkway(queens NY) heading towards the van wyck expressway(east to brooklyn NY). As traffic started to move up slowly, I had pressed on the gas pedal to move forward and without hesitation the car jumps from 7 mph to full throttle. Even when I had applied the brakes ( I felt the brakes on the rotors but it didn't stop) the vehicle had stayed stuck on full throttle and had struck the vehicle in front of me. It bounced off the 1st vehicle and it was at this point I had placed both feet on the brakes, to the point where I was standing on them with my head hitting the roof of the car. The car proceeded on (still in full throttle and brakes applied) and smashed in between two other vehicles further up and after that collision thats when the car finally had came to a stop. I never heard or seen any vehicle take off on its own like that. Two days after the accident I had asked around on facebook on several Mustang enthusiast/club pages and no one has heard of this happening. A week later my insurance company totaled out my vehicle and left me with no car and now I'm left to pay $3000 dollars difference on my loan and $500 to my insurance company. I also asked on Ford's facebook page and I was given a number from a customer relations representative. I had called Ford and they said they never heard of this and "what will I like to do with this?". A friend of mine told me about car complaints. Com and I came across more than 20 complaints for the same problem. I also was told recently to check this website to file a complaint. I loved that car and that whole situation left me depressed and frustrated.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

In the morning, when it is freezing outside, my emergency brakes will not release. I have to wait until it warms up outside before I can drive my car. It has happened on two separate occasions, after sitting in my driveway stationery all night long.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2014

The parking brake cable has lost all tension and no longer works to keep back wheels from moving. This creates a safety hazard because when parked on a hill the car is only supported by the transmission. Also the car seems to roll forward excessively when put in park without the brake on. I feel as if this is a safety issue that should be investigated.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2012

Traveling to temple, texas to visit mom for her birthday; I set my cruise at 70 mph as usual while traveling. I approached a slow moving vehicle, slowed down to make sure there was no one coming, turned my signal on and touched the gas pedal to increase speed. When I passed the vehicle and got back in my lane, my car continued to gain speed and was quickly up to 85 mph and increasing. I touched the brakes to slow it down and they would not hold or slow down the vehicle. I was terrified knowing there are a lot of curves on that particular road and possibly no way to avoid hitting someone. I looked for the safest place to pull over and saw an empty church parking lot and hoped I could get the car stopped in that area. By this time, I was applying the brakes as hard as I could, I managed to get it there but not before hitting a historical marker and snapping it off at the bottom. The impact seemed to slow me a little bit and I guided it between two big trees and managed to get the speed down to about 40 mph, slammed the gear shift in park while the engine was still racing and turned the key off. I waited about 5 or ten minutes and started the car and the engine was still racing at a very high rate of speed. I tried to start it again in a few minutes and the engine was still racing; I turned it off, called someone to come get me and called a wrecker to pick up the car. This was the most terrifying experience I had ever had in my 46 years of being licensed to drive a vehicle!.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

The parking break will not work therefore I can not get my vehicle inspected. It goes up and down, no cables are broken visibly, but if you pull the break it does not stop the car. It is as though the brakes are seized. Clearly I am not the only one with this exact problem, and I almost ran over my wife when depending on the parking break! how could Ford not recall this part when they 'know" it is faulty! the rubber is eaten up on the housing, and like the hundreds of 06 owners I have been reading about Ford needs to stop charging people 500+ to fix this and do the recall!!.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2011

Living in boston on December 18th I went out to my 2006 Mustang gt 4. 6 liter it was parked and I engaged the car to start. The parking brake was not working correctly was very loose. And it is never like that. Brakes feel stiff in back feels like a toughing,,,I was on a small enbankment in neutral and car did not roll back at all. My guess it parking handle spring is off track or some spring broke . . Is this a problem in cold weather. . Never had this happen before.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2007

I drive a 2006 Ford Mustang. I have had a brake problem similar to the problem that the Toyota prius recall is having. When I am turning out of a parking lot and hit a bump, the brake give out. I took it in to have it looked at starting in October 2007, but the dealership looked at the brakes and said nothing was wrong. They wouldn't even record it in their computers. The problem has only been replicated when turning and hitting a bump simultaneously. The break pedal gives out and depresses all the way without providing any breaking. I have to remove my foot and re-apply the brake for it to work again.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2006

: the contact stated the brakes have not stopped the vehicle on three separate occasions. This occurred at no particular speed and with no warning. The dealership was unable to determine a problem.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2006

Hesitation at acceleration and unintended acceleration. Hesitation was not corrected at dealership, I corrected through computer reprogram with diablo programmer to decrease amount of throttle delay, hesitation gone. Unintended acceleration corrected by modifying the brake pedal to increase distance between gas and brake pedals which are extremely to close, solved problem. Dealership mechanics are inept and unskilled. Took me half hour to identify and correct pedal issue.
