While driving the car goes into limp mode randomly causing the rpm’s to fall. There is no power to get off the road safely and has almost caused an accident numerous times. I have had diagnostics ran and the mechanic has no clue what’s causing this. Ford forums are full of these Mustangs doing this. It is a huge safely risk!!!!.
On June 18, 2023, my throttle unexpectedly stuck open after intentional acceleration, causing the car to continue to accelerate uncontrollably after releasing the accelerator pedal. The engine continued to increase rpms and speed. After using all of my leg strength to apply the brakes to fight the uncontrolled acceleration, the throttle unexpectedly eased up and returned to normal. This was the most frightening instance. On two other occasions, I noticed similar uncontrolled acceleration that seemed to correct itself immediately after shifting, where the tachometer approached 5k rpms. I have not had the vehicle inspected, and there were no warning lamps, or other symptoms prior to this failure.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang gt. While accelerating from a stop, the vehicle hesitated to pick up speed and then surged at a high rate of speed. The vehicle shifted out of gear several times and the contact had to place the gear in drive 3 to prevent the failure. In addition, the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v319000 (air bags) and 16v384000 (air bags). The contact was not informed of the recalls when he purchased the vehicle. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The vehicle was in motion on a city street. The accelerator was being depressed slightly to either maintain or slowly accelerate to a speed between 30-40 mph. The gas pedal then pressed to the floor on its own causing the engine to rev loudly and accelerate to beyond 50 mph on the first incident (nearly 70 on the second major incident). When the incidents occurred, there was nothing that could be done to stop the acceleration. Braking only slowed the rate of acceleration. Pressing in the clutch was ineffective. The incidents are random. No immediate cause has been determined. Both times, the driver and fellow drivers were endangered because of the lack of control caused by the incident. Thankfully, no crashes have ensued yet. Nothing short of turning off the engine entirely affects the incident as it occurs which causes further endangerment. This issue has occurred roughly 4 times in the span of one month's time. Two were minor cases in which the accelerator righted itself quickly. The other two were major incidents resulting in lack of speed and control of the vehicle. It is believed the issue is arising from the mechanical nature of the accelerator. Whereas most vehicles are a single piece pedal, this make/model/year is a two-piece mechanism. Upon researching similar incidents, it has been made known that this issue arises in this make/model/year of the vehicle, as well as, some others. However, the company refuses to issue a recall to prevent further incidents which, quite frankly, is reckless endangerment on the part of the company. No repair invoices, police accident reports, insurance claim forms, etc. Have been filed as these incidents have only occurred over the course of the most previous month. This issue needs to be resolved promptly by the company.
Car suddenly went into limp mode, no reason. Just started it up one day and it just did not want to move. No one knows how to get it out of the mode. Many mechanics have tried with no luck. Now a mechanic says I have a faulty computer. 3 years of it acting this way. . Computer diagnosis showed many things messed up, even after replacing all of those (and I am sure some were uneeded) the car is still in limp mode, has no power at all and has been basically down for 3 years. Beautiful lawn ornament but it being all I have left of my late husband, I'm not happy it just sits there. No mechanic wants to even touch it!.
2006 Ford Mustang. Consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. The consumer stated on several occasions, the accelerator pedal independently engaged without contact, causing an extremely dangerous condition. Even after putting the vehicle in neutral, park or applying the parking brake, the engine continued to rev. On two occasions, it occurred at a stop sign, where the vehicle would not stop causing her to drive through the stop sign. The consumer also had a problem with the vehicle not responding when attempting to accelerate. Her daughter was driving when the incident occurred.
Happened 2 consecutive days. My wife was driving at around 30-40 miles per hour and all of a sudden it's like the car took off and began accelerating on its own. Breaking would not really slow it down. She was lucky enough to be able to throw the car in neutral ti shiite down but the vehicle kept revving. She had to shut it down and remove the key before it would stop. It's scary when it happens. It happened to me a day earlier at the time I thought it was a fluke. Hopfully too many people don't get killed before the NHTSA takes action. I see hundreds of complaints with the same issue on this vehicle.
I was stopped completely. The traffic light changed to green in the intersection. I pressed the accelerator and it went all the way to the floor and stayed there. I flew thru the intersection at top speed with the brake pushed as hard as I could with no deceleration at all. I traveled approximately 150 yards wide open. I stomped the gas pedal and tried to get it to release with no luck. I finally turned the ignition off and jumped a curb to get it stopped just before I would have rear-ended a vehicle in front of me. Flat spotted 2 brand new front tires. It was terrifying! it cost me $721. 32 to get the throttle body replaced. After I got home I google Ford acceleration problems and discovered there is a class action suit in 30 states against Ford for the same thing that happened to me. This problem needs to be corrected and I need a refund from Ford for the defective throttle body and 2 new tires.
Pcm module/crash data report says that the throttle position sensor went to 100% with accelerator at 60% and then the throttle stayed wide open until accelerator pedal was released to approx 23% percent. Why is there a 40% difference in the pcm data from accelerator pedal position to the throttle position. At the trial a guy from Ford said this is normal and the throttle is designed this way. My husband is now on his way to prison. Is this true and can anyone help or advise us.
I was on my way to work, turned a residential corner and accelerated to merge into traffic on a highway loop. Within seconds, I realized the accelerator was not coming back up. It felt as though it had gotten stuck or sucked down into the floor board. My mind was racing--what to do! I depressed the brake but with me depressing the brakes and the accelerator racing the car, my car started to shake. My car is in excellent shape. Other than a new battery, it is primo and has been babied! I saw a clearing in the traffic and headed to the shoulder of the road as not much further up the road was traffic at a stop light. I knew if I got up that far, an accident would occur. I had to steer away from traffic! I put it in 2nd, then 1st, while still depressing the brakes. It did slow it some and I came to a stop. I threw it into park, but it was still screaming and accelerating. My tires were smoking and I could smell them. I then turned the engine off and the nightmare ended. I am a 53-year old woman who loves my Mustang, but I about died today and could have taken others with me. My daughter and friends came to my rescue. I started my Mustang up about 15-20 minutes later and she was fine. I putted slowly down the road to the Ford house and she is in the shop. Diagnostics said it was the throttle body. $800. That is just money, but what to do now? do I keep her when she is fixed, could it happen again, or do I totally take the safe road and trade her in? I love my car, but I could have died today and taken someone else's loved one's with me. The thought of that has grieved me all day and I have been inconsolable.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the engine stalled as the electronic throttle control warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle restarted on the first attempt and resumed normally. The failure recurred on seven separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 76,000.
On August 13, 2013 at 1:45pm while driving to a car dealership in elgin, IL, my wife and I were driving north on rt59 which is a 45 mph zone. My pressed the accelerator pedal and the car started to sputter and hesitate. She pressed the pedal a little more and the car just took off by its self. Before we knew it, we were traveling at 70 mph though a large population area. My wife was terrified and tried pressing the brakes to the floor but they only slowed the car a little. I told my wife to tap the accelerator pedal to see if the speed would reduce. It only increased in speed. I told my wife to tap the pedal again. The car did not slow and she was still unable to slow the car with the brakes. I told my wife to press the pedal harder. The car lurched forward and then began to slow down. My told me last year that while she was driving the car that it did the exacted same thing, but I didn't understand what she was talking about until I experienced it myself. My wife was terrified and it scared the [xxx] out of me as well. The car is showing no check engine lights or service engine soon lights. This malfunction could cost someone their life and needs to be addressed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
This has happened before about a year ago. The car accelerates on its own. I can take my foot off the gas and it goes by itself--no cruise is not broken or on --that was test. Rpm then jump up to about 4000. This is a serious safety issue Ford needs to take care of before someone gets killed.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled and the electronic throttle control warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle restarted on the first attempt and resumed normally. The failure occurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The failure mileage and VIN were not available.
Traveling to temple, texas to visit mom for her birthday; I set my cruise at 70 mph as usual while traveling. I approached a slow moving vehicle, slowed down to make sure there was no one coming, turned my signal on and touched the gas pedal to increase speed. When I passed the vehicle and got back in my lane, my car continued to gain speed and was quickly up to 85 mph and increasing. I touched the brakes to slow it down and they would not hold or slow down the vehicle. I was terrified knowing there are a lot of curves on that particular road and possibly no way to avoid hitting someone. I looked for the safest place to pull over and saw an empty church parking lot and hoped I could get the car stopped in that area. By this time, I was applying the brakes as hard as I could, I managed to get it there but not before hitting a historical marker and snapping it off at the bottom. The impact seemed to slow me a little bit and I guided it between two big trees and managed to get the speed down to about 40 mph, slammed the gear shift in park while the engine was still racing and turned the key off. I waited about 5 or ten minutes and started the car and the engine was still racing at a very high rate of speed. I tried to start it again in a few minutes and the engine was still racing; I turned it off, called someone to come get me and called a wrecker to pick up the car. This was the most terrifying experience I had ever had in my 46 years of being licensed to drive a vehicle!.
My wife was pulling into a parking space--I was in the car as well. About half way into the parking spot, the engine suddenly began reving and the car jumped forward causing a head on collision with the truck in front of us.
At 12:00 pm my sister in law called me and said her 06 Mustang gt was hesitating when accelerating, I advised her to bring it to my shop and I would check it out. I checked to see if any codes were set, and the codes were clear. I test drove the vehicle and when trying to accelerate, there was a 4-6 second delay between pushing on the accelerator pedal and the response of the engine accelerating. I turned right onto the main road of our test drive area and accelerated and the pedal went to the floor to full acceleration and the rear tires spun and the accelerator pedal would not return to the released position. I put the vehicle in neutral and shut down the engine and coasted back into my parking lot. I, at that point went to my office and called the local Ford dealer and asked the parts manager if there were any problems with the sticking accelerator and he advised me that there was a recall on certain Mustangs where they put a shield under the accelerator pedal, but this vehicle didn't fall into the v. I. N. Parameters. There were no additional mats other than the factory mat which is hooked into the mat hooks on the carpet and that there was plenty of clearance from the pedal to the mat. Personally it seemed like there is a problem with the drive by wire accelerator. If this would have happened to my sister, she would have been in an accident due to the problem. Please advise what we can do?.
March 2010, just driving down the road and came to a stop sign, car died. Everything seemed fine until recently, July 2010, when the car stalled about 5-6 times while I was trying to cross the road in traffic. I had 2 people nearly run into me before I could actually get it pulled over to the side. Then, it wouldn't start back up with me. I had to let it set for a few mins, tried again and it finally started back up. Had it diagnosed at the Ford dealership, and there is a throttle body issue, needs to be replaced. There is no rhyme or reason to when this happens. I have not had it replaced bec I am on unemployment and do not have the money right now. I need my car for interviews and a job when I finally find one. :(.
The gas pedal on my 2006 Ford Mustang got stuck as I was pulling into a parking lot, causing me to hit 2 other parked cars. I applied the brakes but the car kept going forward and then suddenly stopped. This caused the wind to get knocked out of me. The damage to my vehicle consisted of the driver side fender, turn signal, headlamp, bumper and hood. Damage to the other vehicles was to their respective rear bumpers. I had the car towed to the dealer where I purchased it to have them look at the problem and was told that nothing was found and that I'd be responsible for the charges!.
2006 Ford Mustang gt for the last 12 months have been experiencing acceleration without applying gas pedal. Happens when driving at low rates of speed. When remove foot from gas pedal to slow vehicle, the vehicle accelerates jumping from 500rpm to 1500+rpms. Have to depress brake hard to keep vehicle from jumping forward. Big problem when trying to come to a stop at intersections. Have rearended vehicle in front because the Mustang jumped forward after coming to a complete stop and removing foot from brake pedal. No injuries or damage to vehicle struck by the Mustang. Mechanic couldn't find any cause for the engine revving. This has gone from an occasional incident to an every day occurrence.
Was driving 60 mph on freeway. . Did a slight acceleration to get around a truck. The gas pedal went to the floor. The rpm's were up around 7000-8000, I hit close to 120 miles an hour, after less than a minute. I tried to get the pedal unstuck with my foot. . . . No avail. . Then I popped it into neutral and speed started to back off, with rpm's still racing. I pulled to side of road at about 35-40 mph and turned off car. I had to physically reach down and move rubber pedal to the side and pull metal part up. Pedal seemed to work once I pried the gas pedal from the floor. I took it to the Ford shop the next day and they said they never heard of that happening before. They blamed it on the floor mat and charged me 58. 00. All indications on the engine were normal they stated. I know it was not the floor mat. Am very worried about driving the car again.
My Ford Mustang gt 2006 continue to accelerated even if my foot was on the brakes. This happen after I stop and press the gas.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated that as the vehicle was started and he shifted into drive, the engine exhibited an unusually high increase in rpms of 6,000. The accelerator pedal then independently engaged without application by the contact. The contact immediately shut off the engine and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated the identical failure occurred two years prior. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned with the safety risk involved during vehicle operation. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact was parking the vehicle with one foot on the clutch and the other on the brake pedal. The tires began to screech and the vehicle unexpectedly surged forward and struck the vehicle in front of it. The contact noticed that the gear was in neutral and the brake and clutch pedals were still depressed. She was certain that she did not depress the accelerator pedal. The air bag deployed and both vehicles were towed. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. The contact was injured and a police report was filed. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 15,000. To date the dealer has not determined the cause. Updated 08/29/07.
: the contact stated while accelerating from an stopped position, the vehicle accelerated from 50-90 mph on its own. Both feet were applied to the brake pedal and the acceleration stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the problem could not be duplicated. This happened a second time and the dealership was still unable to duplicate the problem.
While accelerating/pressing gas pedal from a full stop after driving approximately 25+ minutes, vehicle has hesitated and then surged forward as if it lost power or gas but never completely stalled. Since purchasing the vehicle in July 2006, this problem has occurred 15+ times as I began documenting it. Dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem, nor has anything shown up on the car?s computer. Next question is if they place a "black box" on the vehicle.
: the contact stated while exiting the interstate, after decelerating, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle hesitated then suddenly surged forward. This occurred on three occasions, the dealership was unable to determine a problem. Updated 5/2/2006 - each time this problem occurred the vehicle had been driving at highway speed for over 2 hours.
