1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2025

Speedometer went to zero while driving and seemed to be in neutral. Could not accelerate. Also low fuel warning light came on when I had a full tank. After car was shut off and restarted speedometer seemed fine for about 1 mile, then self accelerated. Now continues to read zero and can not accelerate unless I restart engine.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2024

Recently started having erratic shifting issues. Will downshift randomly out of nowhere while driving. Sometimes will just be stuck in 1st gear and won’t go anywhere until I pull over and shut off/start up again. Dangerous because I never know when it will do it. Might seem like everything is fine and then all of a sudden, it downshifts and loses power. Rpm’s rise but car has no power. Have to figure out how to get out of the way. As stated in Ford’s “ customer satisfaction program 16n02,” my 2012 has all the symptoms and I have dtc code p0731 but dealer refused to service my vehicle because it doesn’t show up with my VIN, even though it’s a 2012 and I clearly need my molded leadframe replaced.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2022

Speedometer went down to zero going 55mph. Car thought it was going 0 mph, which causes transmission to go into first gear . Car reved awfully and had almost caused an accident both times this has happened to me. Scanned the codes and it gives me p0722, common problem with these exact year Mustangs and many other vehicles. Dealership denied my warranty to replace molded lead frame in transmission which causes this issue. This has already been a warranty extension and recall on many of these exact same cars and I do not know why mine doesn’t qualify. This is a huge safety issue and I’m left to fend for myself according to Ford even though it is their products fault.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2019

While accelerating on a public highway the throttle went straight to redline and would not decelerate until the transmission was shifted into neutral and the motor was completely shut off. Vehicle was restarted by setting the key back to run and placing the clutch back in 2nd gear while in motion. The car could have easily injured motorist's had it not been shut down in properly.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

Crossing lanes on highway car stops accelerating,. Car unable to speed up everything else seems to works fine. Check engine light and wrench come on. Had to coast to side of the road park checked engine restarted car operated normally all warning lights off.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2018

Lost power in my 2012 v6 Mustang. Wrench light came on indicating limp home mode. Was able to pull off to the side of road. Turned engine off and the it was fine for about two miles then cut off again. Restarted again and was able to make it home but the engine light is on. Going to try and get it to the shop tomorrow, but this is a severe safety problem in my mind. Was lucky I didn't get rear ended.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

My vehicle constantly goes into limp home mode while driving. Turns off all cylinders except 1 which let's you drive about 5mph. Also while my vehicle is at idle it begins to loose proper idle rpm and nearly stalls until revs back to a higher rpm. After some research I found that the issue is thought to be the throttle body and throttle body sensor. Currently mymy vehicle is at the dealership going through some vehicle diagnostics to figure out the exact problem. They told me it is not covered under the vehicle warranty and I am being charged $145. 00 for the initial inspection and then charged by the hour to fix the problem, I not including parts. My vehicle only has 59,000 miles on it and it's already failing. It appears that numerous people are have this issue and Ford has yet to recall affected vehicles.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2015

Wrench light comes on, followed by check engine light. Car goes into fail safe mode, down to about 2 mph; rpms fluctuate dramatically. Happens on the highway, and during normal street driving. Seems to be in the throttle, the same thing as in the recalled Ford focus throttle plate actuator.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2015

My car would die while driving. It was very dangerous in heavy traffic and would have to turn the car off and back on just to crawl into a parking lot, so I had it towed and the computerized engine diagnostics at the napa auto care center showed a malfunction of the throttle body. This repair cost me $726. 32.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

I was driving in the expressway at 60 mph when suddenly my car lost power on the acceleration. A wrench tool appear and the dashboard on the rpm clock . . . At that moment the car desaccelerate almost to 30 mph and I was unable to gain speed. I went to a side of the road, turn it off and restarted the car. Everything appear to be normal but the first thing I did was go to the dealer. They run a test on it and told me that the problem was related to the electeic throttle body. I dont understand how is possible to happend something like that when my car barely has 4 years. There is no warranty on ot and the repair for it is really expensive.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

While entering the freeway in rush hour traffic, my car went into "limp mode", the wrench light came on as did the check engine light. I had to pull over on the shoulder of the freeway, turn the engine off and restart it. This has happened a couple of times in the past couple of days- mostly while driving on the freeway. It is very scary to be driving on a houston freeway, have this happen and need to safely maneuver a vehicle to the shoulder of the freeway, often crossing several lanes of traffic when vehicles are moving at 40-55 mph and I have no ability to accelerate. I have also had to stop in the middle of the freeway to restart my car because I was not able to safely change lanes. It was a terrifying experience and I was afraid I would be re-ended by motorist driving at posted speeds. When researching this issue, along with the mariner's, escapes, focus etc, I have found that many Ford Mustangs have this same problem. Given that this is a very dangerous condition, the cost involved in replacing the throttle body, and most importantly, Ford's long history of vehicles with defective throttle bodies, I do not understand why the 2012 Mustang or any other Ford product with this issue are not automatically eligible for the "customer satisfaction program" which fixes the problem. I do not trust this car and no longer feel safe in it.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2015

Was driving around 50mph on city streets when all of a sudden car lost power and went limp. Wrench light came on and car was making a weird noise under the hood like it was struggling. Couldn't accelerate and I had to coast to the right hand side of the road. Turned the car off and then back on and everything was okay. This has happened 3 times since within a 8 month time period driving at various speeds. Each time I turn the car on & off again and it seems to reset. I've noticed my car hasn't been getting the same city mpg as before. Ive only had this car 2 years, I'm the second owner and this started at roughly 62,000 miles.

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Upon taking off from a stop light car stalled and lost all engine power. Car started again but stalled just as guiding to breakdown lane on overpass. Had to have car towed to Ford service where they determined it was a bad throttle body. Throttle body was replaced. Ford service spoke of known issues with the throttle body in focus models but was not aware of any throttle body issues with Mustang.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2013

In 2012 or 2013 I had an accident caused by unattended acceleration. The Mustang ran into the back of semi truck. Unattended aceleration happened twice in the same day and the second time I could not get it to break free and stop until the last second but it was too late it hit the semi truck trailer in front of me. This was inspite of me having both feet pushing strongly on the brake pedal. We had started off slowly from a red light and then the car downshifted and took off. Southwest Ford in weatherford, TX had called the Ford engineer to come look at it. It took a month for him to come. He looked at it in its banged up shape and declared that there was no problem. When I got the car back something had changed. It seemed like the software had been changed because it never had the problem again and whenever the brake was touched it would kill any acceleration immeditely. Also I lost about 3 miles per gallon till this day. The engineer blamed me when he obviously updated the software. Also the very next day after the engineers visit Ford was hit with a class action lawsuit for just this reported unattended acceleration across most of its models. Not my fault!.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2012

Issue # 1 brakes: upgrade "brembo" brakes squeaked about 2 weeks out the dealership. Took it a total of 4 times and dealer could not find the issue, the 5th time, I drove the vehicle and showed service advisor and tech. According to dealer the rear brakes were replaced. The next day, brakes are still squeaking, take it back to dealer where it was repaired a second time, picked up the car, on the 4th day, I was coming to slowing down ready to brake, pushed the clutch and car jolted forward (as if I pushed the gas and let go of the clutch). I did not think anything of it, 5 minutes later, the car started grinding, noise was only heard when driving and would stop as the vehicle came to a stop. A few days after that I was moving car forward, in my driveway, put in first gear, clutch in , as I slowly released the clutch (never touched the gas), and as I tried to brake, the vehicle did not stop, clutch engaged, pushed the brake as hard as I could the car kept moving as if there was pressure on the gas pedal, ended up hitting our SUV parked in front, car still did not stop, actually pushed SUV about 10 feet forward, until I turned off vehicle and used the hand brake. Issue # 2 a/c - when driving the air would come on randomly, full blast, the screen would show exterior temperature at 00, 2 fans would come on, one on each side of the screen displaying 88 degrees (vehicle is not equipped with dual air controls ). This happens random and in the past 4 months I've had the car I have experienced this issue 3 times. - dealer cannot find the problem.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

When attempting to shift from 1st to 2nd on my 2012 Ford Mustang gt manual, often times I am unable to shift into 2nd gear and the vehicle makes me shift info 4th gear. This causes the engine to get bogged down and causes me to lose acceleration speed. Usually I have to then shift again out of 4th and into 2nd. I have almost been hit from behind several times when this has happened as the engine gets so bogged down in 4th that I can't even keep up with traffic, especially when merging onto the freeway. This usually occurs once about every 10 miles of city driving.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang. The contact stated while sitting at a stop light the rpm suddenly started to increase as if the vehicle wanted to take off. The brake was being depressed firmly to decrease the rpm acceleration. The contact stated that this recurred at least four times at each stop light while his foot was on the brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure after running diagnostics. The dealer informed the contact they would install a flight recorded analyzer on his vehicle to record what was happening to the vehicle. The contact stated he does not feel comfortable with the vehicle and does not want the install. The manufacturer was sent an email and he has not received an answer. The failure mileage was 600.
