36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

This specific car model is a 2016 shelby gt350 tech package that I owned for at least 7 months. In this time period I had only put 7k mikes on it before it blew up. After doing tons of research there is a tons of class action law suits against Ford for these cars. The incident that occurred was while driving the vehicle caught fire on the passenger side. Driving at the speed limit of 40 mph no warning lights, check engine lights or anything it just blew up. Up to this point all maitence was done properly and after doing some research it had the same issue report by multiple other shelby owners of this year. This vehicle is not safe for the roads and if not properly investigated, it can cause someone to lose their life. I incurred a bruised head, burns and loss of hair from this accident. I’ve contacted Ford in regards to this issue and yet to have anything done. This vehicle should not be sold to the public with these known issues. There was recall sent out to fix this issue but my specific VIN number was never contacted to fix it.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

Intake manifold assembly is nationally back ordered. And it seems to be a problem with many Mustangs. This is preventing me from getting my smog.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that approximately 3 to 4 times while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle overheated and then stalled without warning. The failure had occurred at various speeds. The contact stated that the failure had escalated to the point where the vehicle was no longer drivable. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who diagnosed with coolant intrusion into cylinder #4, causing the engine to misfire. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2022

Failure of driver side valve cover- leaking oil and valve cover bolts were completely loose. Both valve covers are prone to failure according to TSB 19-2309. Note: the engine block is designed to have 13 bolts to secure and seal valve covers to engine. Instead of using a 13 bolt valve cover, Ford used 9 bolt valve covers for 3 consecutive years which deviates from the engine design. Safety concern- the discharge of combustible oil in and around engine bay and other engine components. Engine components which are flammable and or susceptible to damage as a result from contact of leaking oil from failed valve covers and bolts. This failure could also result in catastrophic engine failure depending on when this failure occurs, if it goes unnoticed, and how bad it is. This problem has been confirmed by Ford via TSB 19-2309 which instructs the removal of both valve covers, drilling 4 holes in each valve cover, replacing valve cover gasket’s, and adding 4 additional bolts to each valve cover upon complete re-assembly. This problem has been reproduced sufficient amounts for a TSB to be in place. An important note with TSB 19-2309 is that it does not instruct the need to drill threaded holes into the engine block for 8 additional valve cover bolts because they are already present. The holes are simply covered up by the 9 bolt valve covers and go unused. Vehicle has been inspected by a certified mechanic/ business outside of Ford dealership/company. No warning lights of any kind appeared. The issue was noticed on 4/9/2022 during a routine oil change and inspection. Car currently has 35,000 miles and is not being driven or started. Why is Ford not willing to do the right thing by proactively recalling for this issue?.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -the engine on my 2016 Ford Mustang ecoboost is malfunctioning. My vehicle's rpm drop extremely low then rev high, then the car almosts cut off when I drive at low speeds, park, or stop at lights/stop signs. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -I stopped driving my car any further than 10-15 mile distances because I was afraid the car may cut off while I'm driving down the road in traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -I took my car to 3 different Ford dealerships, in mississippi, north carolina and maryland. The first could not replicate the issue or find any issues, the second dealer whom I paid approximately $700 for repairs had my car for 3 weeks because they couldn't find the issue, so they replaced my spark plugs and an ignition coil and said it should be good. The third Ford dealership didn't diagnose it truly they just said it was leaking coolant so it had to be an internal coolant leak that has damaged my engine (causing a misfire), based on a Ford TSB that has apparently been out for a long time. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -it was inspected by 3 different Ford dealerships. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -the first time I had this symptom was in the spring of 2021, but it was a one time thing and it went away. The next time I noticed the issue was around July of 2021 which is when I took it to the Ford dealership near me in mississippi. The first time the check engine light came on was in April of 2022 when I arrived in maryland after I took it to the repair shop in north carolina. Note: I was in the process of moving from mississippi to the DC area, otherwise I wouldn't have even driven it that far.

The contact then stated that the driver’s side seat belt failed to operate and seized. As result, the contact sustained injury to her neck and finger. No medical attention was needed. The air bags failed to deploy. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle cylinder was replaced but failed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced but diagnosed that nothing was wrong with the seatbelt. 42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic discovered a misfire in cylinder #3. The coil and the spark plug in cylinder #3 was replaced; however, the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated as the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was hot. The contact took the vehicle back to the mechanic where they discovered that the coolant level was low and recommended that the vehicle be taken to a dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the diagnostic test discovered that coolant had leaked into cylinder #3 and that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2021

Purchased the car around 40k miles. Did all the maintenance required for 3-4 years with it now at 98k miles. On the evening near christmas eve as I was at the red light making a right turn I heard clank from the bottom of my engine, then metal pieces were falling off to the ground. Smoke was coming out from the engine, with the oil pressure illuminating light on. I pulled over to see a trail of oil, while looking under I saw a big whole on the bottom of the engine block. Good thing it didn't happened when I was driving at a higher speed and I was by myself vs having my kids with me. Geico would not cover my blown engine, and Ford knows this is a known issue referring to "ecoboom" but I no longer have warranty with them. Car has been sitting at the shop pending 6500 to have the engine replaced. With covid times we are living in right now I dont know what else to do.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2021

Engine threw a rod and damaged several pistons. Car has only 86,000 miles on it. Routine maintenance was done on schedule. No warning lights or symptoms were present before the incident. This will now require a full engine replacement. The incident happened while driving causing a major loss of power and eventually the inability to safely get my vehicle out of traffic. My car is still sitting at my mechanic and is available for inspection. It was only diagnosed and no repairs have been performed. The current covid situation has made it impossible to even secure a replacement engine. Ford should be held accountable based on the number of related issues reported. I’m now paying on a car I can’t drive or repair l.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2020

While coming to a stop with the clutch pressed in the car will randomly turn off intermittently. This has now just began happening, although it has now happened to me twice in 1 months time. I have also been reading on s550 Mustang forums (years 2015 - present) that I am not the only one experiencing this. It seems like an electrical issue or something as there are people with completely stock cars that are affected by this, and also people with 2018+ newer Mustangs as well.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

After having the car for 5 months (59,000 mi) the engine blew up while driving 60mph on a state highway and dropped all of its oil. The ecoboost Mustangs are incredibly prone to this issue and Ford is just sweeping them under the rug. Ford had my car for 4 months when it was misfiring (which is how "ecoboom" begins) and replaced almost everything under the powertrain warranty minus the engine, transmission and turbocharger. When I got the car back it started to jump timing then misfire then all of a sudden it stopped. Then the engine blew up.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

Takata recall. The issue with my car is that the engine is shutting off while coming to a stop. Whether the clutch is engaged all the way or if it's just in neutral. Suddenly the rpm's just drop to zero and I would have to restart the car again by hitting the start engine button. This had happened multiple times in the past few couple of months. Other than that the car still runs smooth and everything else is fine. I have almost 18000 miles on it. I really hope Ford could figure out what the problems is.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2016

Rough idle with no throttle control while in drive. Engine died and wouldn't restart. Was taken into Ford for similar problem a few months ago and I reported it here. The first repair was recorded as a defective throttle body. This car is not safe!.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2016

Purchase date 4-16. Eight documented visits to dealer/repair. Other visits where service adviser said to return when system failures were happening, as problem would resolve before I arrived at service. Re water inside, driver door issues, sync, camera/stereo electrical issues include doors will not unlock at times, takes multiple attempts to be granted access into car, thus causing safety concern. Sync goes out fairly regularly including phone function, back up camera, stereo. Currently in shop again since 7-3-17 @ 9 am. (16 consecutive days this trip). Safety concern of most importance to me is the fact that car has lost power multiple times on highway and thankfully has not yet been in a major accident. Quick reflexes of drivers behind me are only reasons that accidents have been avoided thus far. I am told by dealer that this is a throttle body malfunction. Throttle body has been reprogrammed after a near rear end accident ( highway/ intersection/turn). Throttle body went out with no warning car instantly decelerated with no acceleration capability. One week later throttle body fails again causing a near accident that would have been fatal in nature due to the speed of traffic on highway. My 7 yea old was in rear seat. My children are no longer for any reason allowed in the vehicle since October 2016. Throttle body has yet again been replaced June 2017. Third attempt to repair this car with no indication that this is a repair, it seems to be merely a repair attempt as this process of attempted repairs has caused 3 near rear accidents. This car has proven itself to be a danger on the road and a major safety hazard for anyone inside or outside of this vehicle while it is in motion. Low mileage is indicator of how untrustworthy vehicle is to me. It is only driven by me, no passengers allowed. Only driven if another car can not be borrowed. Unresolved issues.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2016

It has a little over 5000 miles on it and it is using oil excessively. It is using a quart of oil every 600-900 miles and is getting worse. I have brought in to Ford twice. Both times they said I would need a new engine. But, I just received a call from them last Friday on 10-21-16 and they said they are not going to be putting a new engine in the car as they fear the new engine will do the same thing. They said they "may have a fix next spring. " I called Ford customer service and their regional rep called me back. She only offered me a maintenance plan for free oil changes. This is worthless to me and my current problem as it doesn't need oil changes and does nothing to address the problem. Since they admit they have a problem with the engine and have no repair for it, I asked them to buy the car back. They refused.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2016

The car suddenly lost power and no acceleration was possible. The trouble light came on. Car would only roll at 10mph with engine power. The gas pedal would not control the motor speed. Car would not shift. This happened when I just pulled in to a parking lot. I was able to use the emergency flashers to get the car home using side streets at 10mph. Last year a guy in his 2015 Mustang asked me if I had this problem as he explained the same situation when I also owned a 2015 Mustang. I didn't have that with the 2015, but I just bought it when we talked. I know what he means now. As my 2016 did what his 2015 did with a loss of power.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

During normal driving during 5pm traffic, the car shuddered, a wrench icon came on the screen, the car lost power and would not accelerate. The vehicle was in motion at the time on a 4 lane road with multiple other vehicles in close proximity. After pulling over and shutting the engine off and on 2-3 times, I was able to drive approximately 2 miles to dealership. Service department seems to think it is a defective electronic throttle body.
