Adaptive Cruise Control Problems of Ford Ranger

Ford Ranger owners have reported 8 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Ranger based on all problems reported for the Ranger.

1 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/03/2025

The acm (audio control module) failed, causing a network failure in the can system. This caused a condition of no speedometer reading, no automatic braking, no adaptive cruise control, no fuel gauge reading, no blind spot monitoring, no forward collision, no rear cross traffic warning. Additionally, while the turn signals worked, there was no inside audio or visual confirmation that it was functioning. Also no high beam headlight indicator and no automatic high-low beams. Cost of repair was $739. 00 and the dealer had to order the part.

2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/06/2025

The boot material surrounding the parking brake bunches up and does not allow the handle to properly seat. When using the cruise control, the parking brake handle will raise up on its own, due to the boot material, causing the cruise control to abruptly disengage. This causes the vehicle to mildly to moderately deaccelerate without warning. This could cause rear end collision.

3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied by a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (cdf clutch drum). Diagnosis & manufacturer response: the issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at big o tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA engineering analysis (pe 24-001) regarding this exact 10r80 transmission. Safety risk: this defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2025 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

This truck looses power whenever someone changes lanes in front of your car. This happens even if adaptive cruise control and emergency braking is off. When someone changes lanes in front of you, even if they are going the same speed or faster, your car loses all power for 2-3 seconds, even if you apply additional throttle input. If I am on a road trip with standard cruise control on, it will cut power dozes of times per hour. If I am in the right lane with a major exit comming up, my truck will cut power every time someone changes lanes in front of me. I have had 18 wheelers lay on their horn because they do not understand why I am slowing down when there is no reason to slow down. I cannot properly explain how dangerous this vehicle behavior is. I have brought the truck to the dealer two times and they are unable to resolve it.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the alert of a sensor was displayed. The contact stated that the message that the sensor was not working, and the front center sensor was not available was displayed. The contact stated that brakes independently activated whenever the sensor alert was displayed, causing the vehicle to stop unexpectedly without a vehicle or object being nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the contact was informed that the Ford engineers were working on the issue. The code was cleared, and the air and sensors were not working. The contact was informed that there was no fix for the issue. The contact was unable to use adaptive cruise control, and the vehicle was parked. The contact was unable to use the features. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/29/2024

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle and shifting into drive(d), the messages “pre-collision assist not available" and "cruise control not available" were displayed. Additionally, the passenger’s side air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a local dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the "pre-collision assist not available sensor blocked" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that whenever the message was displayed with the cruise control activated, the cruise control would disengage independently. The dealer was notified of the issue but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
