1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated the transmission failed. While driving out of a parking lot the transmission made a loud noise and the vehicle stopped moving. The contact had the vehicle towed to a mechanic who determined that there was an internal problem with the transmission and it needed to be replaced. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 61,000.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2012

Vehicle made noise while driving on flat ground. Asked passenger if they heard the noise and they did not. Car continued to drive approximately 2 more miles. Car started to fail while driving uphill. The car made a revving sound and then stopped moving. Turned flashers on and pulled over to the side of the road. Scared that car would not park. Tried to change gears and vehicle went into park. Still scared so hand brake was applied. Called father and uncle to move car. Car had to be pushed backwards down the hill into a parking space at a secondary school. Next day, car was towed to residence. Vehicle will be towed to transmission specialist in February for diagnosis. Had to worry about getting to work to even pay for repair. Scared to imagine the cost.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while stopped a loud noise emitted near the drivers side front tire. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who confirmed that the coil spring fractured in half. The mechanic replaced the coil spring. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while driving in reverse. This failure was diagnosed by a second private mechanic, who stated that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was notified; however, the transmission was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

I own a 2003 Ford Taurus lx and the transmission failed with no warning whatsoever on 11/23. Mileage is 71,000. I was driving on a rather busy road and all of a sudden I hear a noise and the car no longer responded even though my foot was on the accelerator. Fortunately, it was early in the afternoon and the road was not heavily traveled at the time. I am thankful for that. I was able to drift into the post office driveway and a kind gentleman pushed me because I was blocking the access road to the parking lot. I could go no further. Car was towed to repair shop but an estimate is not available at this time.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

Driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sel down the interstate at about 65 mph, the car just stops. Luckily, I was able to pull off the highway with no mishaps. I had no warning lights showing, no check engine light on, no engine noises or slippage. After my 300. 00 tow back home, I had it checked out and was told the transmission was gone. The car has 108, 000 miles on it. After checking on the internet, it seems this is indicative of the 2003 Taurus - the transmission just goes without warning. It could have very easily caused an accident, and seems that with the number of complaints I found, Ford should have issued a recall.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

2003 Ford Taurus transmission quit in middle of my wife driving home from work. No warning light, noise, indication of an issue. After she got the car to the side of the road, and parked, she tried to engage the car in "reverse" and there was not a sound of engagement and the same when she tried to engage the car in "drive". This morning I looked at the car and everything she said is true. The transmission failing in the middle of her merging across the main road could have created a devastating accident if people didn't allow her to merge to a safe location at the side of the road.

7 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2010

2003 Ford Taurus transmission just stopped pulling. No slipping no problems what so ever then nothing. It only has 43k miles and I'm nearly 80 yrs old. I cannot afford to spend $2000 on a repair that should be repaired at no cost because there should be a recall with all of the complaints I have read for the same problem. It is odd to me that most recalls are for something stupid like a taillight may be prone to leaking but when it comes to life threatening problems it is overlooked. It is just a good thing that she wasn't hit by someone since she had pulled out onto the highway and made it to her lane before the transmission just stopped pulling not noise, pop or anything!! will someone with a backbone please stand up!!!.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

I was driving my 2003 Taurus ses and was following a truck going over a railroad track and was going like less than 5mph since the truck in front of me was going so slow and when I went to press on the gas pedal to move forward after passing the tracks the car was making a noise when I tried to press on it more. And all of a sudden it just stopped at first than started moving again so I pulled over off the main road. The next thing I know the car just stopped and would not move whatsoever. I turned the car off and turned it back on again trying to move forward by pressing on the gas and it didn't budge. The car didn't even move at all nor in reverse. Everything else was running fine and there was no technical lights on in the car. Eventually I had it towed back home and found out the transmission was out the next day resulting that I have to get a new transmission. I've also found out that it was common apparently for 2003 Taurus cars to be defects for transmissions. This is highly a hazard on the road where a car just stops out of nowhere when who knows you can be crossing a light, railroad track or in mid-traffic where accidents can occur!.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

I had it towed to shop they told me the pump was out. I have been only owner and always maintained my car. It has 65,000 miles on it.
