36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

Sitting at a red light, waiting our turn, car accelerated thru the light! had to put it in neutral to stop it. After that numerous times the car would accelerate while driving. Our mechanic has worked on this issue for over 9 months, keep thinking found it, drive a week or so, then it would do it again.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

While my daughter was driving driving at posted speed, engine revved excessively and needed to do heavy braking to get vehicle stopped. Problem went away after stopping, turning vehicle off for a couple minutes than then restarting. About 10 miles earlier, tried to use cruise control but it never worked (could not set it). On Friday 8 June, while daughter was driving in buffalo, mn, symptoms occurred again. I don't know if my daughter tried to use the cruise control this time. She was able to drive the car the 8 miles to home and park it in the driveway. Several hours later, when I started the car, while in park, the engine rpms was 3500. Tapped gas pedal a couple times and engine stayed revved. Then turned off car and started it and engine rpm was back to normal. I drove about 10 miles, including trying to use cruise control, without incident, though the cruise control still never worked (would not set). On Wednesday 10 July, in albertville, minnesota, while my wife was driving 30 mph, she noticed that it was very difficult to get the car stopped at 2 different stop lights. Then about a half mile from the second stop light, while driving 40 mph, she was not able to stop her car for a 3rd stop light and had to drive through a red light, this time with several passengers. She was able to stop the car with engine revving and after tapping the gas pedal several times it returned back to normal. She was not trying to use the cruise control.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

We was driving and the car started to accelerate on its own and continued to accelerate @ faster speed till about 75 mph . . We was going 40 mph on our own to start . . We had to brake the car but it seemed the more we breaked the more it would go . . But we did it @ force till it stopped , and squeling brakes and put it in park and the car sound as if I was pushing pedal to floor and I turned it off as is . . So I opened hood went to throttle and moved the cage on it then I heard a click and started it up and it was fine . . Now 5/20/13 it does it atleast 1 a day and my cousin who is mechanic said put it in neutral and give the gas a little push to to get it to release . . And call Ford to see if theres a recall . . I called and they said there isnt a recall to have it service ASAP because it dangerous . . But my thought is if there is a lot of people with same issue why wouldnt it be on recall due to severity (fordforum. Com).

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

2005 Ford Taurus wagon accelerates all on its own. Happens on freeway going 65. Happened while coming to a stop light, brakes had a hard time stopping vehicle. Can get up to 3000 or more rpm's at any given time on its own. Very scary and very very dangerous.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Car began to accelerate on its own and would not slow down when foot was removed from gas. It responded to the brake, but then revved up to 3000 rpm on its own, with my foot off the gas pedal. It was hard to stop. This happened in speed ranges of 0-60 mph. After car sat for 8 hours, I turned the ignition on and it shot up to 3000 rpm. I shifted into gear and the car accelerated on its own, without my foot on the gas pedal. I called aaa and the tow truck driver found the plastic clips on the cruise control cable disconnected from the throttle. He reconnected the clips but they seemed to be too loose and easily came off again. The car was towed to a aaa car center, where the technician replaced the cruise control cable and idle air control valve. No issues since the repair.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Several times since April 1st, my 2005 Taurus has suddenly accelerated on its own. In order to stop the vehicle I had to to constantly apply and then ride the brakes. I also had to put the car into neutral.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Throttle will stick and car will continue as if on cruise control. It is a random event. So far, have had the throttle cable replaced, fuel pressure "thing", and had the throttle body cleaned, and throttle continues to randomly stick.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

Driving down the road when I accelerated the car continued to accelerate after I took my foot off the gas pedal. This happened to my girlfriend earlier when she drove the car. I was able to stop the acceleration by stomping on the gas pedal twice very hard. My girlfriend had to shift into nuetral when it happened to her. This is an ongoing problem with this car and happens randomly at different speeds and conditions. When it happens the engine revs to about 4,000 rpms when shifted into nuetral before going to normal. I did some research and discovered that as of March 2012 there were over 395,000 complaints about this and that the NHTSA was inverstigating. This is a common problem and well documented. I am a Ford fan but am very dissapointed this has not been addressed properly especially in the wake of the Toyota recalls for similar problems a few years ago. I contacted the NHTSA this morning to discover that: NHTSA campaign id number: pe12005 "a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances. " I am asking that this case be reopened before someone is killed and that Ford be forced to do the right thing and issue a recall if they won't do it voluntarily.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and speed continued to increase even though I removed my foot from the accelerator. I put the vehicle in neutral - the engine was running at this point at nearly 4000 rpm - and pressed quickly on the accelerator. This stopped the acceleration and the engine returned to normal rpm. This scenario was repeated two more times before I arrived at my destination.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2012

While driving in a 45 mph zone throttle stuck had to brake hard to slow vehicle down put into neutral, engine rpms in excess of 6000 turned off car waited several minutes before restarting. Seemed fine however cruise control no longer worked. Upon inspection later on the cruise control cable had become disconnected. Reconnected cable, problem reoccurred in residential neighborhood. Reconnected again and again problem of stuck accelerator happened, again in a residential area.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2012

While my wife was driving the car she told me the engine raced and it was all she could do to stop the car. At first I thought she had maybe turned on and set the cruise control by mistake because I could not get the symptoms to repeat. About three weeks later the same thing happened to me. I put the car into neutral and the engine revved to almost 4000 rpms and stayed there for about 15 seconds. Had the car checked out with nothing found wrong. Has not recurred.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

My daughter was driving the car the engine was idled up she turned in the driveway and could not stop the car before it hit a tree. This is the same day I replaced a idle control valve for the third time.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

I was driving at 40 mph down the road when traffic slowed down. I released the throttle to apply the brakes and the engine rpms increased and the vehicle would not slow down. I narrowly avoided an accident by applying the brakes as hard as I could and drove into a parking lot before shutting the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle, the engine rpm was around 4,000 rpm and would not come down. After pressing the accelerator pedal several times the vehicles engine returned to idle speed. Upon further inspection I found that the cruise control cable had become disconnected from the throttle body. I assume that the cable was able to wedge the throttle open and became unstuck once I depressed the accelerator pedal several times. The plastic end on the cruise control cable is not broken but does fit loosely on the throttle body when I reconnected it. I have applied a plastic zip tie to the cruise control cable to keep it from coming off again.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

My husband was driving our 2005 Ford Taurus with the air conditioner on high, he heard a pop and then saw flames coming out of the engine. He was able to get out of the vehicle and call the fire dept. The car went up in flames. The mechanic said the fire started in the air conditioner. The car is a total loss.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

I had noticed on several occasions that the gas pedal seemed to stick and the engine seemed to rev and the rpm needle would increase to 3500 or more even though I had my foot on the brake. After a couple of minutes, the engine would return to normal. Last week, my cruise control would not work, although I was able to turn on the word cruise on the dash when I pushed the on and set buttons, but the cruise did not take hold. The engine continues to rev up when I start the car and when I bring the car to a stop. .

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2012

My wife and I were out driving our 2005 Ford Taurus when the car started accelerating on it's own. I was trying to brake and the car continued to increase in speed. I wasn't using the cruise control at the time, I seldom do, but the cruise control doe's work though. I finally had to break hard and put it into neutral to get it stopped and the engine rpm's were going really high, between 4000-5000 rpm's. The vehicle has done this numerous times since and is highly dangerous! my wife is afraid of the vehicle and don't even want to drive it! this is a very serious safety issue and seems to be a problem for most of Ford Taurus owners on this web site in this year range of Ford Taurus vehicles. A safety recall should be established so that Ford can correct this very dangerous problem. Please don't wait until someone is killed before you do something about it. Thanks in advance!.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

I was turning left into the side road leading to my home when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. I applied the brakes (to no avail) and then shifted into neutral. Engine rpm exceeded 3000. After tapping the accelerator pedal several times the engine returned to idle speed. I continued and turned left into my driveway and the same situation occured. It has not happened again although my cruise control no longer works. I can turn it "on" and when I press "set accel" the cruise light on the dash comes on but the cruise control won't engage.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

This is the 3rd time this has happened to me- and each experience is as frightening as the last. I was driving approximately 15 miles an hour and the engine revved and the car sped up without my pressing the gas- I did not have my foot on the gas pedal. I reached the light, put the car in park, at which time the engine accelerated higher and higher. I turned the car off and when I turned it back on the engine continued to rev higher and higher. After turning it off again, I decided it would be ok to make it through the intersection, at which point the car sped up to 45 mph without my pressing the gas at all- in fact, I had to press the brake pedal several times to try and slow down and avoid hitting another vehicle in front of me. I finally had to pull over and turn the car off for several minutes before turning it back on- and then it was fine. It is terrifying to feel such loss of control and feel like I could not slow down. Please recall this issue- it is a danger to anyone on the road.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2012

I was on I 17 north to flagstaff az,when the speed control all the sudden began to climb 65, 70, 75 almost 80 mph I tried braking. I had to take out of gear and coast to a er lane before I could shut off the car. Very scary luckily I was heading north not south heading south is mostly downhill I probably would be writing this. Please look into this problem.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

Vehicle engine revs up to over 4000 rpm plus at city and highway speeds with no warning, no foot on accelerator, no use of cruise control and regardless of what gear the vehicle is in. In city, speeds rapidly increase from 25-50 plus without touching accelerator and/or from 50-to 80 plus at highway speeds. Only way to stop it is to ride the break and/or turn off the vehilce. Dealer has attempted to identify and fix the problem twice with no success and waiting on Ford to identify and find a permanent fix.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

I was driving approx 30 miles an hour when the car started to accelerate on its own. I had to pull over on the side of the road and turn the car off to stop the acceleration. Pressing the break had no affect on the car auto accelerating. This has been happening very frequently over the past week. No when it starts to accelerate by its self I put the car in neutral and it accelerates up to approx 4000 rpm, to stop the acceleration I press the gas pedal and release quickly and the car settles back down, stopping the acceleration. I feel that this is very dangerous to me and my family and needs to be investigated.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

Car continued accelerating after taking foot off gas pedal. Slowed car down. Pulled off road and stopped and put in park. Engine roared. Turned off car. After a few minutes restarted car but engine still roared. Car bucked and lurched. Stomped on gas pedal to stop engine surge. Have taken car to Ford dealer 5 times and each time they tell me it is fixed only for it to happen again.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2012

Happened twice within fifteen minutes- driving on residential street when engine started revving very high. Was able to use brakes to maintain control and then press hard on gas pedal to stop the revving. The cruise control is inoperative (took to shop, they reported the cable is unattached).

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2012

Car failed to slow down when accelerator released shifted into neutral and engine revs had occurred twice. Accelerator sticking.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

The first incident my brother was alone and driving the car. He accelerated after stopping for a traffic signal. Within about 50 yards the car continued to accelerate up to 4000 rpm. He pulled off to a turning lane and had to hold his foot on the brake to avoid hitting another vehicle. Finally he put the car in park. The engine did not slow down until he put the car back in drive. Since then the accelerator has taken control three different times at about 40 mph. Most recent incident was on 4/18/2012, mileage 36140. We were riding home from church. My brother pressed the accelerator to about 45 mph from a stop sign intersection and the engine revved up to 4000 rpm again. We had to pull off the road, turn the engine off and on 3 times before it was drivable.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2012

My 2005 Ford Taurus has a problem slowing down on several occasions when I attempt to slow down at stop signs or red lights. There's been many times when I've almost ran into a car in front of me because I could not stop or slow down. Instead of stopping when I apply the brakes, the engine revves up and speeds up on its on. This has been going on for several months and I'm afraid that I may crash into someone in front of me at a stop sign or red light. Also, even when I'm driving on the highway or a normal street or road, the car will sometimes speed up on its on even when I take my foot off the gas pedal. This is very dangerous and I'm going to take my car to a Ford dealership to see if they can fix or repair this manufactured defect.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Hello my wife's Taurus has recently started to lurch forward when she starts it. This happens about every third or fourth time the vehicle is started. Another thing we have noticed that may be related is that when the car is running while in park say at a drive through, when putting it into drive, there is a lag time in the transmission engaging into drive then when it does engage it pops into drive as if I were to pop the clutch and it lurches forward.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

Throttle sticks open when driving and revs to 3000 at a stop when parked. Can't take foot off the brake otherwise car speeds up. Have to turn engine off and let sit before starting again. Has happened 4 times, but no codes found when scanned.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

After accelerating while driving on the expressway, my vehicle has been stuck in the acceleration status. This has happened multiple times since January and the mechanic has no answer. Thought it might be a loose cruise control cable that he adjusted but this only worked for two months. Today I had the same experience. Took it to Ford they say there are no recalls but just today I had to put two feet on the brakes at the light in order to stop the car and after I kicked the gas pedal abruptly the engine slowed down and so did the rpms.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

I was pulling into a gas station and starting to slow down, but the car kept accelerating. I applied the brakes and put the car in park, but the engine was racing. I pushed down on the gas pedal very hard several times before the car stopped the excessive acceleration. Another time I was driving on the freeway at about 60 mph and the car started to accelerate, but I also pushed down very hard several times before the acceleration stopped.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

2005 Ford Taurus - throttle sticks, vehicle will speed up without pushing on the gas. This has occurred numerous times, quite scary regardless of location or speed. This has occurred in town and on the interstate. Vehicle must be put in neutral and the gas peddle must be pushed to the floor to get vehicle back under control.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2011

Stopped at light, car started to rev rpm's. Could not hold on breaks enough to stop moving. Went through red light around two cars as speed reached about 70mph. Both feet on breaks, could smell them burning, got to side of road and slammed into park and turned car off. Wow, the scariest thing I have ever experienced. If there was heavy traffic someone would have been killed, no doubt in my mind . Happened on thruway two weeks earlier, only lasted a minute, thought the mat was stuck, it was not. Called Ford and they could not help as there is no recall. Took it to Ford dealer, they disconnect crusie cable. Don't know if this was really the problem, just got it back. I am very fearful to drive it, because you never know when it will do it again. Please someone make Ford wake up about this problem before someone is killed. I wouldn't feel right trading it in, for fear of someone else getting killed.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

I have multiple times where my car is accelerating on its own and have to put car in neutral to stop it. Rpm's are so high the rev limiter kicks in and at least 15-20 times while stopped at a traffic light with the car at idle, car would accelerate fast with my foot on the brake almost hitting car in front of me, once again putting in neutral to stop it, had it looked at by service centers but no fault codes were found and was told not repairable if no code were found because they would be guessing for the problem. And I did look to see if the cruise control cable was on or off the linkage assembly, but cable was attached ok and had not fallen off like other reports.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

I just recently purchased a 2005 Ford Taurus and it was running fine for like 2 days. Then the cruise stopped working a few days later the accelerator begin to stick. I was going about 30 and suddenly the car began to take off on its on and I nearly hit the car in front of me. I had to steering off the road and pressing the brakes was very hard. This seems to be a trend for the car and is extremely dangerous!! someone should not have to die for this to be recalled!!.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

On several occasions, vehicle was trying to surge forward while at a stop sign. Engine was revving very high; had to press down really hard on the brakes to prevent vehicle from surging forward. Took it to Ford dealer (bankston Ford, fort worth TX) who said that the 'diagnosis of cruise control not working and purchase of a new cruise control cable. '. I paid $190. 00' to the repair, but it still seems to occur sporadically.
