1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

Drove head on into a ditch the car wouldn't stop.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

First time (oct 2018): while driving on freeway car kept accelerating without my foot on accelerator. I had to brake to slow within acceptable speed. Within 10 minutes the problem stopped occurring. I took it to mechanic & he could not find any problem or replicat the problem. 2nd time (oct 12, 2018, 4 days after being st mechanic) & 400 miles away from home-- I was driving on surface street in the city, acceleration happened again without any use of accelerator. I had to brake & get to side of street, put in park & turn off engine. Waited 10 minutes & tried again. Problem remedied. We looked on internet & found "unintended acceleration" problem with same make & year due to cruise control cable coming off the throttle control & getting in the way of throttle trying to close. Took it to mechanic, told them to look for this problem with cruise & throttle, & they said they would check. They said they could not replicate the ui but ascribed it to something else & charged me over $400, so I could drive back 400 miles to home safely. 3rd time- within 7 days, same acceleration happened after just leaving home, driving in city. Happened right way, throttled really high rpm's & so I shifted to neutral to stop. Tried it again over next 24 hours & problem continued. Tried it 2 days later when taking it to mechanic & it had resolved so I could drive it there. Told Ford mechanic about the internet explanation. Indeed, that is what they found: the cruise control cable was off the throttle control. Was pinching against the throttle, causing it to stay open. They tri ed to get the part, but were unable. So they used a cable tie to secure it in place. That has been almost a month ago, & I have not had the unintended acceleration occur since.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2018

The car suddenly lost all forward motion while in highway traffic at about 70 mph, engine running and transmission in drive. The cause is a stripped out torque converter input spline. The transmission pump drive rod is too weak and the gear teeth too fine that the teeth on it get stripped inside the converter quite easily and without warning. This causes loss of transmission pump pressure and resultant loss of forward propulsion. In highway traffic, this could result in a fatal accident, particularly from the rear and if at highway speed. This is a design flaw because the teeth on the torque converter input shaft (which powers the transmission pump), are prone to strip. If the transmission pump is not being driven (which will happen if the input shaft strips inside the torque converter while being driven), the transmission will lose all ability to propel the vehicle. There are complaints all over the internet of owners of Ford Taurus's with the very same problem. What is odd is that Ford did issue a recall on some Ford freestar minivans with the very same transmission and design flaw, but the recall did not include Ford Taurus's with very same transmission and design flaw. Ford refuses to repair the vehicle free or issue a recall. Please force Ford motor company to recall all Ford Tauruses with this design flaw. Many years ago Ford was found guilty of intentionally building defective Ford pintos, which resulted in several death with exploding gas tanks when these vehicles were involved in a collision. Please don't let Ford motor company get away with another design flaw that could result in more accidents with fatalities.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2018

Door will not latch closed. Door remains open. Door latch spring may be frozen. I opened the door and started the motor but could not drive car because driver door would not latch closed. There are several similar complaints online regarding the same type of vehicle. This problem causes significant risk of injury and death and should be addressed by the manufacturer immediately.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

I was driving my 2005 Ford Taurus home when the car began to accelerate on its own. The gas pedal was stuck. I tapped the gas pedal several times and this helped for a second then it began accelerating on its own again. It picked up speed and I had to ride the brake all the way to my house. This is a very dangerous situation and I have seen that other 2005 Ford Taurus owners are experiencing the same problem. I called the Ford company and there is no recall at this time. If you own a 2005 Ford Taurus be aware of this issue. Another complaint: my daughter was driving my car when it stopped dead in the middle of the road, on April 28, 2016 I had to put out $1100. 00 to fix the torque converter on my 2005 Ford Taurus. This amount set my budget over the top. I had to borrow the money to have it repaired. Called the Ford company again, no recall again. No resolution.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

Car accelerates on its own when driving. I have almost wrecked numerous times because of it. Not safe at all. When pulling into my driveway every day it does it and shoots me into the driveway fast almost hitting garage. This needs to be recalled before me or my kids are hurt because of it.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

I have a car that revs to 3 on start. On driving or backing it 'chugs' on it's own and has jumped 3 ft back when backing up. It stall at stop sign/red lights. It "chugs" even when car has warmed up and will "chug" at each stop and start. City driving is impossible as are parking lots. Very dangerous! I have spen $450. On repairs. I even went to the Ford dealer, same thing. Trial and error and it is not fixed and is getting too expensive. I need a solution to this. It has been 3 months of horror driving this car and I have my grandchildren on a very regular basis. Please help!.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

The car revs to 3 rpm's on start. Eventually, it may kick down. As you start off, reverse or drive, the car "chugs" and has jumped back 3 ft while I was backing up. It may stall at stop sign/red light. It "chugs" at each slow down and start. Very dangerous. It is necessary and very dangerous and unnatural, but left foot on the brake and right on the gas is mandatory. Also very dangerous. Parking lots are hazardous, as is my parking at home. The car "chugs" completely on its own and if one is not completely aware and prepared will jump 3 feet and hit what ever is near.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2015

While raveling at 35 mile per hour the I removed my foot from the accelerator and the car continued in a manner as if it was on cruise control. I tapped the pedal a few times and put my foot behind and pulled and it released. Earlier my daughter was driving the car and reported that it accelerated and would not stop so she pulled into a parking lot nearly missing another vehicle and she turned the vehicle off.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

Was at stopped at a red light, when it turned green proceeded through the intersection when my car suddenly down-shifted into neutral without any warning. The check engine light had come on, but no noises or any other mechanical indication. The car behind me had to swerve around quickly to avoid hitting me. I had to put the car in park, and turn off, and restart to gain my drive ability back. After that I would not drive the car, for safety of myself and children. My husband test drove it after doing some basic transmission services, but the problem persisted. He now believes that it is the torque converter, which after much research is highly common with this make and model. This is a costly repair, and an extremely dangerous issue, that seems to be occurring frequently among owners of this make and model. Im in disbelief that Ford hasn't been investigated for transmission issues by now, after the hundreds of complaints made about this exact issue.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

When it is cold out and you try to close the drivers door it will not latch. This has happened several times over the past month. The danger in this is that if you do not realize that the door did not latch when you closed it then it could open while you are driving it. I have 2 Ford Taurus's from this same year. My other one had the same problem and the latch ended up being replaced in that one. (that was about 2 yrs ago) when it started happening with this one, about a month prior to the date above) I started looking online and discovered this is a common problem with this model and year at temperatures below 20 degrees.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

Gas peddle stuck causing car to accelerate. Had to apply brake with force and press accelerator to floorboard to get it to unstick. Could have caused a serious wreck.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

Was driving my car when all the sudden it accelerated up to 40+mph with our me even touching pedal. . . I attempted to hit brakes but it kept going and slammed into curb on passenger side. . No body damage was done but I destroyed both rims, tires are flat and wheels are bent which I'm assuming is the alignment and suspension. . . I just bought/financed this car from a used lot on 10-18-2014 and now owe for a car that's pretty much totaled. . . However I did notify them that night (5 hrs after purchase) that the car was revving high and accelerating and hard to stop. I also took video of this. . . But I had to work all week and didn't have time to go in and complain about issue. . Then on Friday October 24th after I got off work and was almost home. . The car sped up and I couldn't stop it had to hit curb in order to stop car from driving me through an intersection and into a concrete wall. And now the car is parked in my complex, and can't be driven. . . . I'm just extremely thankfull that my wife and newborn were not with me this time. .

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

Was driving on road and car suddenly accellerated on its own. Vehicle difficult to stop untill gas pedal was stomped on. This has happened several times. Also the cruise control does not work. This is horrifying, when it happens as the engine goes faster. This can easily cause an accident!.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

I was traveling at about 35 to 40 mph when suddenly the engine started increasing rpm's and the vehicle began accelerating on its own. It made the vehicle hard to stop. It does not occur every time I drive but has happened 4-5 times and is becoming more frequent.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

2005 Ford Taurus se cleaned and inspected. Right front passenger side carpeting found wet with mold underneath floor-mat. Interior carpeting pulled back revealed thoroughly soaked carpeting and carpet mat/insulation. Insulation destroyed from the water and mold. Floorboards found to be solid and in good condition. Minor surface rust appearing on floorboards from the excessive moisture trapped under the carpeting. Water source found to be entering the cabin at the firewall where the ac evaporator drain tube exits the vehicle. Evaporator drain does not appear clogged. This is a known issue with the Ford Taurus from model years 1995-2007. Recommend recall.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

Waiting at a green light (due to heavy traffic and a congested intersection), there was a sweet burning smell, followed by white smoke. I made it off the road to a gas station parking lot when seconds later, the smoke coming from under the hood in the front driver's side turned black and flames erupted from the same spot. I took myself and my three children out of the vehicle and in less than a minute later, the entire car was engulfed in flames. Apparently, there was a recall on a recall of this make and model about the wiring for cruise control being too close to the break fluid. This happened in front of witnesses and I discussed this with mechanics. Ford needs to wake up, because people can't just blow up in cars they take care of.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

My 2005 Ford Taurus has an acceleration problem. It drives and picks up speed on it's own. It have reached speeds of up to 80mph on its own, and rpm's shoots up pass 5 with foot on break as if its still wants to drive.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2013

My Ford Taurus suffered from unwanted acceleration I. E. Speeding up with out pressing gas when I was driving. I managed to put the vehicle in park at an intersection. I noticed that the engine was revving at 4000 rpms even in park. This incident happened again on 7/4/2013 after I fixed up my car once this is a dangerous safety issue.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

I was driving 55 on a two lane highway and attempted to brake as I started down a hill. Instead of braking, the car began accelerating. I was able to pull into a gas station and put the car in park but it revved up to 3,500 rpm. I turned the car off and waited 10 minutes. Upon starting it again, it remained at 3,500 rpm. After hitting the gas pedal and the brake several times while in park, it returned to normal. I turned the car off and it was fine when I started it again. I drove home (4 miles) without incident but I will have my car in the shop first thing in the morning.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

Hello, my 2005 Taurus accelerated on its own. My cruise control stopped holding the speed level and then accelerated on its own. I tried pumping the accelerator pedal but that didn’t stop it completely. I don’t know how fast or how long the car would have continued like this as I had it under control once I was near the local speed limit of 40 mph. The car eventually came back to a normal idle but then it accelerated on its own again. I was able to stop the car by applying the brakes but as soon as I released the brakes it starting moving again on its own. I turned the engine off and have not experienced this problem since. My cruise control began working again for the rest of that day but now doesn’t hold the speed. Is this a known problem? by the way, my car mat is on the passenger side foot area. My oil had been changed and a new fuel filter installed on 06/06/2013.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

Accelerator starts sticking at 65 mph and continue to accelerate. Cruise control stopped working at the same time.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2013

I was driving back from taking a disabled person to the doctors and transmission just quilt working. No noise or anything just quit. We sat on on busy highway for two hours waiting for a freind to tow the car. Just like the recalled vehicles. My car has same transmission but was not recalled. Why? now I have no car. Can't afford to get it fixed. And have no way to take the disabled person I take care of to the doctors.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2013

Hello, I'm submitting this report due to the recent recall of Ford Taurus vehicles with the gas petal sticking. Please expand this recall to include other years, specifically my vehicle's (2005). On numerous occasions, I have been inching along in traffic or have removed my foot from the gas petal only to discover that the car suddenly accelerates. I have narrowly avoided a car accident because of this problem. At first I thought it was me, however the same thing happened when my boyfriend was driving the car. He had to press down on the brakes hard and we could still feel the car attempting to accelerate- at a red light. I have discovered tapping on the gas will usually correct the problem, however it is very happenstance when it occurs and is very frightening. Please expand the recall, there are newer years' that are also affected. (as a side-note, I purchased my vehicle used and it did not come with floor mats, so this is not an issue of a floor mat being stuck. ) thank you.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

When aoperating about 35 miles per hour the car will suddenly accelerate on its own. The rpm will go to 3+. To interrupt I tap the gas pedal a couple of times and step on the brake. It does not happen all of the time. I thought I had done something the first time, but then it has happened several times since. It is at the car dealership to be worked on tomorrow.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2011

In the past three months, I have experienced a "sticking accelerator" 8-10 times while driving my 1995 Ford Taurus. While at speeds in the 35-40 mph range, I become aware that the car is accelerating; when I take my foot off the accelerator the car continues to slowly accelerate. Applying the brake does not relieve the condition, and it is very difficult to bring the car to a stop. Shifting from drive to neutral results in the engine running up to more than 4000 rpm. On some occasions, tapping the accelerator pedal several times clears the problem, and the engine goes back to a normal idle speed. On other occasions, I have had to go into park and turn off the ignition key. When restarting, the engine seems to act normal. My local garage diagnosed the problem as a fault in the cruise control. I have had them disconnect the cruise control. In checking on-line, it appears this problem has occured to a number of others with the same car.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Design flaw - station wagon rear tailgate opening lever and rod to lock is inoperative.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2010

My 2005 Ford Taurus accelerates on its own every so often. When it accelerates, I try to brake, but the car vibrates very badly and does not want to slow down. When I do get it slowed down enough, I pull into a parking lot. I put it in park and the rpm's jump to 4 or over. I floor the gas a couple times. This seems to correct the problem, but it keeps happening every couple months for about the last year.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

We bought an 05 Ford Taurus in June of 05. The car has a poor ventilation system. You have to turn the control panel knob to max a/c to cut outside air from getting into the car. Otherwise if want heat or a/c you have to breathe polluted air into the cabin of the car. This a health hazard and design flaw in this vehicle. Their have been no accidents, deaths, crashes, fires, property damage, but possible health problems from breathing in outside vehicle exhaust which I think is very hazardous and should be addressed by Ford and it's design team. Please do something to make this company responsible to their customer's.
