1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2022

On December 10, 2020 I acquired tis particular automobile. In the calendar year following, I have been advised of and experience "sudden acceleration" and other anomolie . I have found further oil pan plug bolt, and today 02/10/2022 the complaint of other owners. Particularly airbag sudden inflation and brake shift interlock and no airbag operation. This is presumed to be a collision sensor relationship. I am in the process of restoration and replacement of the affected components. I have difficulty in data and trouble shoot information on the website and brand dealership. (napa, adv. Auto parts, auto zone, orielly, salvage yards. I have spent $163. 50 at Ford dealer charged me. I spent $269. 70 at the american automobile association. No repairs have taken place by these people who have been advised that the manufacturer of the vehicle is alerts for further information and details of the job description and replacement parts for airbags components and sensors and clockspring set. I have been advised to contact the seller and demand replacement at no cost to me. To top it all off, Mercury and Ford plants keep duping each other and me for more money on a known defective product and vehicle. A holdover surplus of one brand to another brand. These being as 2004 Mercury sable airbag module and 2005 Ford Taurus airbags components and sensors and clockspring and sudden acceleration by cruise control modules and defects. Help please. Truth and reliable information on cost and parts source. Parts source and retailers. Thank you very much. Loyal to the end of living. Smith. Nc.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

My car will accelerate on its own without me pressing the gas. This happens at least 4 times a week while I am driving and happens when I am driving between 20 and 50 mph. I can make the engine rev/acceleration stop by quickly tapping on the gas pedal. I have had the cruise control disconnected because my mechanic thought this was part of the problem but the random sef-acceleration has continued and seems to be getting more frequent. This has been going on off and on for a few years but has increased in frequency over the past few months.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2015

While wife was driving, throttle became stuck open causing car to race forward. She applid brakes but had difficulty. She managed to get car to stop but engine was racing. She put into park and turned off. Minor damage to front valance due to pulling onto shoulder and embankment suddenly. Very damagerous situation.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

As the car gets to about 35-40mph it begins to accelerate causing me to have to tap several times the brake to disengage. The cars accelerator will also many times, stick as if its in cruise control, but the cruise control is off. This week I googled how to fix and saw many complaints, recall on almost 500,000 Ford Taurus as well as your pursuit to resolve. I would need it fixed before something serious occurs. Thank you gor uour consideration.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

I a recall notice in the news: 06n07 7807 for my vehicle to the powertrain control module pcm recalibration for the flex fuel. I never received any notices by usps and have lived at the same address since 1984. I had the Taurus into two different Ford dealership for service and no one mentioned the recall. As I am retired military my vehicles are always kept in top condition for travel at anytime. I was refused service on the Taurus ( tow different Ford dealership had completed work on the Taurus, without taking care of the recall) the service rep stated that the time for repair had pasted. No wonder Ford mother company stock is down in the time had pasted, (I have service bills that show that two different Ford dealerships and I do have starting problems with the e85 fuel. I am wondering if other consumers have the same problem with the lack of notices for recall. I just want another dealership to repair the problem and make a customer and shareholder happy.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

20150705 0940 as I was driving about 25-30 mph the car started accelerating on its on, I tapped on the brakes, there were no deceleration of the vehicle, as the car continued to accelerate. As I was coming to my left hand turn approaching other vehicles I realize that I was not going to be able to stop the car as long as the car keeps accelerating, therefore I executed the turn prematurely to avoid a possible accident. As I entered onto the street I turned on to I pumped the brakes several times and the car continued to accelerate. I continued to press the brakes and slowing the car to about 5 mph and released the brakes and the car taken off again. I placed the car in neutral and revved the engine several times and the engine speed came back down to idle. I just had the vehicle at the butch oustalet Ford dealership (20150512 with a written and oral description of the problems with the acceleration, engine shut-off, stalling . I was contacting by them informing me about the cruise control cable, windshield wiper water hose broken as well as bill for over $1000. 00 to repair. As I researched online last night to find out there has been a issue related for this same problem, and that NHTSA has contacted Ford about this, but given them the opportunity to handle it in-house, a recall was never issued of this potentially death trap at the cost of the consumer. On the invoice there is a limited warranty for certain parts, but there is no warranty for misdiagnosing, wrongful charge, intentional fraud and abuse of customer expectation, not to mention integrity of the dealership. What I have read online regarding NHTSA investigation is , it is going to take several deaths related to this issue before positive corrective matters are taken before the consumers receive the justice that is needed. 1965 mustang issues, still in denial.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2015

While raveling at 35 mile per hour the I removed my foot from the accelerator and the car continued in a manner as if it was on cruise control. I tapped the pedal a few times and put my foot behind and pulled and it released. Earlier my daughter was driving the car and reported that it accelerated and would not stop so she pulled into a parking lot nearly missing another vehicle and she turned the vehicle off.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

This happened on 3 separate occasions when slowing to stop for a light or because of traffic. The engine would rev and feel like it was putting out more power than it should. If I had bad brakes, I would definitely have hit someone. I would either shift the car into neutral or park and the rpms would shoot up to 4. I had to pump the gas a few times to get it to return to normal. I took it to a repair shop and they diagnosed it as a faulty idle speed motor that was sticking and causing the throttle to be stuck wide open.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I have a 05 Ford Taurus with the same exact symptoms as the previous year Taurus had wich lead to a recall. My cruise control cable will come off the throttle body holding the throttle open and revving at 4 grand when pit in neutral to resolve the issue. After a week of disputing with the car dealership, they finally fixed it at no charge.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I was stopped at a traffic light and as I began to move off to make a right hand turn the car immediately began to pick up sped without me pushing down on the accelerator. The sped increased abruptly and seemed to be overpowering the brakes. I move the gear shift lever(automatic transmission) to neutral and the engine continued to significantly increase it's revs. I stomped on the accelerator while the car was traveling close to 60 mph, now coasting in neutral, and the engine revs began to slow down. This would have resulted in a very dangerous situation had my daughter, a novice driver of six months, been behind the wheel.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

While driving on freeway I realized car was going 70 mph with my foot completely off the gas pedal. I thought maybe the cruise control was on. I pumped the breaks several times which slowed the car down but the car would speed back up to 70 with out me touching the gas pedal. I found the on off buttons on the left side of steering wheel and pushed off several times, then tried pushing on and then off . The car kept going 70mph. I put my right foot underneath the gas pedal and lifted it with my foot in case it was stuck but that didn't make any difference. I exited the highway ready to shift into neutral but the breaks slowed the car to a halt. At the stoplight I began to release the break and the car started to go again with out me touching the gas. We pulled over and parked the car and turned it off. For some reason this fixed the problem. My 3 kids were in the car with me and I discussed all of this with them as it was occurring . I joked about it being a google car but it felt more like christine from steven kings novel.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

About a month ago while driving on the freeway, after accelerating, the vehicle wanted to keep accelerating. I maintained speed by braking. I pumped the gas pedal a few times which seemed to fix the issue. This occurred a few more times over a months period. The beginning of July 2014 the same thing happened but pumping the gas was ineffective. I braked and pulled off the road. I put the vehicle in park which made the rpms go quite high and then shut the engine off. I looked under the hood and found a cable disconnected going to the throttle which I believe is part of the cruise control. I reconnected the cable and was able to drive home. Today I went to the Ford dealer to discuss the issue. They gave me the contact info for Ford owner and I opened a case. Ford said there is currently no recall for this issue. Currently the car seems ok but the problem is intermittent and im not sure if the cable will disconnect again. Incident was a bit nerve racking but could have been serious if I needed to bake quickly.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2014

The 2005 Ford Taurus experienced an uncommanded acceleration. The ignition had to be turned off to control the vehicle. Similar to NHTSA investigation pe-12-005, the problem was caused by the cruise control cable detatching from the throttle body assembly and interfering with the throtlle assembly, causing the rpms to exceed 4,000. This caused the vehicle to lurch, nearly striking a vehicle in front of the Taurus. This is a severe safety issue and has the potential to cause serious injuries or loss of life.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

The car takes off without pressing on the gas. Rpm goes up and car continues to accelerate despite pressing on the brakes. Took car to a mechanic and had the idle valve replaced. 2 weeks later the problem continued to persist and mechanic told me the cruise control was detached but suspects it is a problem with the model of car and needed to be recalled. The speeding of the car occurs sporadically, so driving on the road I am not able to predict when it will happen. This is a malfunction that needs to be addressed by Ford for the sake of safety.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

I was driving on highway with my baby and suddenly found that even though I fully released the gas pad the engine still kept running at ~3000 rpm. I had to put brake to slow the speed which would otherwise accelerate my car out of my control. I finally stopped by switching to neutral and hard brake. When I restarted the car the problem was still there and the engine made a big noise at parking gear. The problem disappeared after I disconnected the battery. During the whole incident, I did not see any warning signs (e. G. Check engine) on.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

My problem is my accelerator has been sticking making it difficult to control speed in traffic. I am concerned the problem will gradually get worse. I contacted Ford motor corp about the possibility of a recall or warranty with this issue. With a small amount of research it seems there is well known issues with this make and model for accelerator problems. See my correspondence with Ford below: "hi ------, my name is [xxx] and I'm from Ford's customer relationship center (crc). I received your email regarding your 2005 Ford Taurus se. I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the seatbelt and accelerator sticking. I completely understand your concern for the safety of yourself and your family. After reviewing my resources, there are no warranties or programs in effect that would provide coverage for your current concern. We recommend that you keep your receipts in case Ford initiates a recall in the future based on customer feedback. . . ------------------- original message ------------------- . . . I have couple of safety concerns. I love my 2005 Ford Taurus and I want to continue to own it. Last year I had a seatbelt issue where intermittently the buckle releases while car is in motion. I called dealership to ask if Ford will take care of this for safety reasons and was promptly told no. Recently I have an accelerator that is sticking. The pedal returns to position but the rpm's remain elevated. I have not notified the dealership yet about this issue. I wanted to contact Ford corp first so I could have documentation on this recent safety concern for I have not had much luck in the past contacting the dealership. . . . 17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

Vehicle started to accelerate and kept going faster. Brakes would not stop the vehicle and ended up in a cotton field. This is the third time the acceleration stuck. Tapping the gas peddle worked the first two but not the last time. It knocked a hole in the transmission pan and did something to the brake line.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2013

Engine starts to race up to 4, 000 rpm making it extremely hard to stop. Had to swerve to avoid hitting car in front of me. When trying to decelerate the car continues to climb in rpm. Seams like the gas pedal is staying depressed.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

Earlier in the week, the accelerator pedal on my 2005 Ford Taurus got stuck and would not function. Hitting the brakes slowed the car. When car was put in neutral, the engine raced. I immediately took it to a repair shop and they could not replicate the problem. It worked fine for a few more days, but happened again yesterday.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The gas gauge just stopped working can be very costly repair from what I understand we bought the car new.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

I was braking to pull into my driveway, and all of the sudden the car's rpm went from normal up to 4500 rpms. When I would press the brake, the car would not slow down, it kept accelerating. I finally put the car into neutral and was able to stop the vehicle.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

The throttle is sticking causing the vehicle to accelerate by itself. I was able to slow it down by use of the brakes, but had to put the vehicle in neutral at a stop light and then cut the car off completely as the rpm's immediately went up to 4000, this happened while driving and was not the gas pedal being stuck, and the pedal was clear of carpet or rug, while driving I even stuck my foot under the pedal and lifted it up.

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

We was driving and the car started to accelerate on its own and continued to accelerate @ faster speed till about 75 mph . . We was going 40 mph on our own to start . . We had to brake the car but it seemed the more we breaked the more it would go . . But we did it @ force till it stopped , and squeling brakes and put it in park and the car sound as if I was pushing pedal to floor and I turned it off as is . . So I opened hood went to throttle and moved the cage on it then I heard a click and started it up and it was fine . . Now 5/20/13 it does it atleast 1 a day and my cousin who is mechanic said put it in neutral and give the gas a little push to to get it to release . . And call Ford to see if theres a recall . . I called and they said there isnt a recall to have it service ASAP because it dangerous . . But my thought is if there is a lot of people with same issue why wouldnt it be on recall due to severity (fordforum. Com).

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Car began to accelerate on its own and would not slow down when foot was removed from gas. It responded to the brake, but then revved up to 3000 rpm on its own, with my foot off the gas pedal. It was hard to stop. This happened in speed ranges of 0-60 mph. After car sat for 8 hours, I turned the ignition on and it shot up to 3000 rpm. I shifted into gear and the car accelerated on its own, without my foot on the gas pedal. I called aaa and the tow truck driver found the plastic clips on the cruise control cable disconnected from the throttle. He reconnected the clips but they seemed to be too loose and easily came off again. The car was towed to a aaa car center, where the technician replaced the cruise control cable and idle air control valve. No issues since the repair.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

Vehicle accelerates on it's on. Vehicle decelerates very roughly when approaching zero speed, I. E. , at red lights, stop signs, etc. Have no idea why I am telling you this. You crooks never honor any problem you build into these cheap vehicles.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

Vehicle throttle stuck while driving. Vehicle begins to accelarate on its own. Had to hold brake firmly to keep from having serious accident on x-way. It has happened several times. When able to stop and put car in park. Engine is still racing. Had to shut off.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2013

I was driving from a road into my driveway and my vehicle did not slow down when I let off on the accelerator. Instead, the 2005 Ford Taurus sel gas pedal was stuck which caused me to speed into my driveway and I threw the car in park, moments from causing an accident or injury.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2013

My daughters car accelerates on its own. There have been 6 occasions where she has to brake hard and shut the car off. My husband put graphite on some parts but it didn't help. At first we thought she was exaggerating and maybe floor mat was hitting gas pedal. Neither was the cause! it is very dangerous. . . . . I am taking to Ford garage to have them check it out. Asap.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

As I was exiting off the interstate,my cruise control failed to shut off. Applying the brake I was barely able to stop my car before rear ending someone, and the rpm was staying around 2000. I then noticed that the gas pedal was sticking and that the cruise control was no longer coming on. Now the cruise control will come on while going down the road on its on and the gas pedal is sticking. This all occurred when the cruise control started acting up. This almost cause a horrible accident.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

On the morning of January 30, 2013; I was driving to work approximately at 8 am and noticed my car became difficult to stop. It appeared to be accelerating when I was not touching the gas and had to apply excessive force on the brake to allow the car to stop. Immediately upon releasing the brake pedal the car would quickly accelerate to 15-20 mph. This continued on and off for my entire 15 mile commute to the office. Stepping heavily on the gas pedal seemed to stop the problem (seemed as if the pedal was stuck down). Placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the acceleration. On January 31, 2013; the same problem occurred again. However, this time it happened at higher speeds. I was driving at 65 mph without having to touch the gas as if the cruise control was set to 65. However, the cruise was off. Again. . . Heavily pressing the gas pedal stopped the acceleration. Again, placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the problem. Both mornings were foggy/rainy and very humid. The problem is intermittent, but I believe Ford needs to immediately correct this issue with recalls as a person who is less comfortable driving or just not very calm could definitely have an accident if they panic.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2012

I bought my Taurus 2005 se at the end of February 2012 at mileage of approximately 81,600. It has occurred twice already that the car kept accelerating after I fully released the gas pedal. Both of them occurred on us hw1. The first time was in may and I wasn't sure what was happening at that time because the traffic wasn't stopped completely, before I could fully identify the problem, the traffic started moving fast again. The second time was last Saturday when I was driving from princeton to new york, my wife and 2 year old daughter were both in the car. The traffic was jamming and stopped completely at some point, then I had a really hard time in stopping my car. This time I had a clear feeling that the car was accelerating, although not at high power, but I had to use my full body strength to stop the car and kept pressing the brake for the whole time. Luckily the traffic didn't stop for too long, otherwise I might have given up and just hit the car 1 meter in front of me. I realized only later that I could have also shifted the gear to neutral or turned off the car. I took the car to a mechanic this Saturday but he wasn't sure what's happening because the problem is not regularly duplicate. Then I looked up this online and found that this is probably a common problem with Taurus 2005 and 2006, I am just another victim. Although accident didn't happen, it was very scary. Certainly such accident couldn't have been prevented if it was my wife driving the car.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Driving at 35mph I took my foot off the gas pedal and the car continued to accelerate. I put the car in neutral and the rpm's jumped to 4000. I pushed the pedal down to the floor and the throttle began to slow down and return to normal. Now randomly during acceleration the throttle will stick open when I take my foot off the gas, and not return to normal until after pushing hard down on the gas pedal. This was quite scary being on the road and have my car accelerating out of my control. I read that a cruise control cable can become disconnected that can be causing this problem.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2012

Throttle stuck while running @ highway speeds. While slowing, became difficult to stop. Required putting the trans into n then turning off the engine. Seems to reset after restarting. Upon inspection of the throttle, the cruise control cable had become detached. Unsure of next action to take.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2012

When I let my foot off the gas pedal the engine continues to accelerate. I thought it was the floor mat catching on the gas pedal. On Saturday may 12 I was coming up my street at about 25 mph and the car wouldn't stop and I came zooming into my driveway. I slammed on the brakes and put the car into neutral and the engine was racing then I turned off the key. When I restarted the engine the problem was gone. I checked the floor mat but I found no problem with the mat. This is the first time I was sure the floor mat was not the problem. Last week may 24 2012 my wife used the car and said she had the same problem and it wasn't the floor mat. Yesterday may 28, 2012 as I approached a busy intersection with a stop sign I let my foot off the gas pedal and the car continued to accelerate into the intersection. By the time I could react I was in the middle of the intersection. I just barely avoided a collision with possible personal injury. This was the last straw with this dangerous problem, so I put the car in my garage and took the cover off the accelerator control leaver. I found the problem quickly. The cause of this unintended acceleration is the cruise control cable has become disconnected from the throttle leaver and is catching on the throttle leaver, so the lever can't return. I tried to reconnect this cable but the plastic retainer on this cheap cable has become defective and will not reconnect. I have now tied the cable back so it can not interfere with the throttle lever. I have contacted Ford about this problem and issued a complaint. There are no recalls regarding this issue. This problem is a serious safety issue and beyond the scope of vehicle maintenance. This issue could cause a fatal accident to an unsuspecting driver. I have documented this issue with photographs. Please contact me for a copy of the photo.

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

My car began to try to rev up and try to go really fast . I had to slam on brakes and turn the motor off. After doing this I took it to a mechanics and was told my switch for the cruise control had popes off and stuck in my ignition and caused my car to excelerate. I almost killed myself several times. This also damaged my transmission. I have not been able to drive my car for years. I know nothing will be done but you should know. Elaine berry 7434 bruno way sacramento CA 95828 . I will never buy another Ford. I called in a complaint to your president year's ago and never got a response. If anyone cares my number is 916)914-5917🙄.
