4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

I was driving at a speed of maybe 45 miles an hour and I took my foot off the gas when approaching a red light. My car continued to accelerate really fast. I tapped the gas hard and it stopped. Since then it does it all the time. Now the car is hesitant and jerking. The transmission warning light recently came on and went away but the acceleration is getting worse each day.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

2005 Ford Taurus with 53,000 miles has a problem that the engine accelerates on it's own while driving. The engine also revs up to 4000rpm in park on its own. Vehicle must be turned off and the accelerator must be pressed hard to "reset" the problem. Based on research online and previous investigation by the NHTSA, this appears to be a common complaint and issue with this model year.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Tranny went out while going down highway at 55 mph. Car went down to 15 mph. Was almost rear-ended by other vehicles. Was not aware of the manufacture defect at the time. Ford will not issue a recall even though a substantial number of same make/model/year were affected.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission exhibited intermittent hesitation. Also, while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle stalled without warning and restarted normally. The failure became progressively worse. The failure recurred numerous times. Most recently, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power train control module would need to be replaced. The part was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2015

While raveling at 35 mile per hour the I removed my foot from the accelerator and the car continued in a manner as if it was on cruise control. I tapped the pedal a few times and put my foot behind and pulled and it released. Earlier my daughter was driving the car and reported that it accelerated and would not stop so she pulled into a parking lot nearly missing another vehicle and she turned the vehicle off.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Transmission wet out.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

Throttle sticks at cruising speed, and won't release without kicking accelerator pedal. Cruise control cable causing throttle not to return to idle position when letting off accelerator pedal! car maintained speed if not slowed by braking without cruise control activated. Removed cruise control cable and throttle works fine, however Ford dealer wants to replace throttle body for $400 and not replace cable? this same vehicle also has an intermittent hard shift problem with the transmission between 1st and 2nd gear approx. 5% of the, but runs fine the rest of the time, dealer says it would need to replace the entire transmission for $3300 but vehicle is now valued around that!.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2014

The car will accelerate by itself from the gas pedal sticking-- total transmission replacement now there is difficulty steering left or right, which forces the vehicle into extremely wide turns or use of excessive force to get wheel moving. -the car will rev/chug excessively while idling at a light, forcing me to turn it off several times for fear of something happening. --car has been checked several times by auto shops and they always claim the car is fine yet I have all these difficulties with it.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

We had our car serviced at our local Ford place on 1-22-2014 because of a problem we were having about acceleration problems. There we found out about the calibration recall. They proptly addressed the recall(we have not ever received the notification). About 2 hrs. Later I was going to get gas. I pulled into the station and it accelerated on me. I thought I would go through the pumps! I was pressing my brakes as hard as I could and put it in neutral fast(which is not good for the transmission) and finally got it unstuck or whatever it does. It was over 3 on the tachometer! it scared me so bad. I have filed a complaint before, the conf. # is 10551674. I just do not want to be the example of when Ford does something about after my funeral!.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and speed continued to increase even though I removed my foot from the accelerator. I put the vehicle in neutral - the engine was running at this point at nearly 4000 rpm - and pressed quickly on the accelerator. This stopped the acceleration and the engine returned to normal rpm. This scenario was repeated two more times before I arrived at my destination.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2012

The transmission of my vehicle, without warning or prior history of failure, acted like I'd moved the gear into neutral while driving the legal speed limit on the interstate. Engine would rev, but nothing happened. Coasted to a stop on the side of the road without the ability to accelerate or move the vehicle to a safer location. There are at least 150 people who have had a similar experience as me but Ford will not issue a recall despite a clear fault with the transmission for this make and model. . Read more...

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

After getting off the highway my car begin accelerating on its own. While applying the brake the car remained at 1500 rpms. I put the gear in park and the car went to just over 4000 rpms. I put the car in neutral and it remained around 4000 rpms. This has not caused an accident, but it is very dangerous and not normal. I contacted Ford and they told me that they are not aware of this particular problem with 2005 Ford Tauruses.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2012

I bought my Taurus 2005 se at the end of February 2012 at mileage of approximately 81,600. It has occurred twice already that the car kept accelerating after I fully released the gas pedal. Both of them occurred on us hw1. The first time was in may and I wasn't sure what was happening at that time because the traffic wasn't stopped completely, before I could fully identify the problem, the traffic started moving fast again. The second time was last Saturday when I was driving from princeton to new york, my wife and 2 year old daughter were both in the car. The traffic was jamming and stopped completely at some point, then I had a really hard time in stopping my car. This time I had a clear feeling that the car was accelerating, although not at high power, but I had to use my full body strength to stop the car and kept pressing the brake for the whole time. Luckily the traffic didn't stop for too long, otherwise I might have given up and just hit the car 1 meter in front of me. I realized only later that I could have also shifted the gear to neutral or turned off the car. I took the car to a mechanic this Saturday but he wasn't sure what's happening because the problem is not regularly duplicate. Then I looked up this online and found that this is probably a common problem with Taurus 2005 and 2006, I am just another victim. Although accident didn't happen, it was very scary. Certainly such accident couldn't have been prevented if it was my wife driving the car.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

On 5/24/2012, I was driving in my neighborhood at about 45 mph when all of a sudden the rpms spiked to about 4000 and the car would not slow down from 45 mph even with my foot off the accelerator. I was able to turn down a side street and stop. My brakes did work. I had the car towed to my dealer. The dealer replaced the throttle body and speed control cable and said they had worn causing cable to come loose and jam throttle body.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2012

Car accelerator stuck. Put car in neutral and park and went up to 4,000 rpm. Had to turn car off. Taking car in to a service center.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2012

Car was speeding up by itself and took all I could do to stop it. On 02. 23. 12 took car into dealership and they tested. Said the throttle cable; broke off a corner of cover and freed up cable. Still having problems, intermittently, with car driving without use of gas pedal and not slowing down until I force it to.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

Throttle sticks open when driving and revs to 3000 at a stop when parked. Can't take foot off the brake otherwise car speeds up. Have to turn engine off and let sit before starting again. Has happened 4 times, but no codes found when scanned.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

I was pulling into a gas station and starting to slow down, but the car kept accelerating. I applied the brakes and put the car in park, but the engine was racing. I pushed down on the gas pedal very hard several times before the car stopped the excessive acceleration. Another time I was driving on the freeway at about 60 mph and the car started to accelerate, but I also pushed down very hard several times before the acceleration stopped.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

Sudden loss of power transmission power/burning smell. Driving in madison wisconsin, the 2005 Ford Taurus suddenly lost power. I was able to coast to a stop, but needed to be towed to a repair shop. The symptoms, transmission id and other characteristics are the same as the transmission issues with freestar and other Ford minivans/autos. Upon consulting with a Ford authorized dealer, the only remedy is to replace the transmission. When pressed for an answer, they described the same situation as the current recall . . . And stated that my Taurus transmission was the same transmission . . Most likely with the same issue.
