1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2022

This has happened since we purchased the car. When driving down the road out of the blue the wrench light on the dash turns on and the car loses all power!! dangerous! so dangerous. I have spoken with other foes tauras x owners and they too have the same issue. When it happens I pull over and shut the car off and wait a bit. . I turn it back on and the wrench light is off but car wont shift into gear!! it's very hard to get the shifter to move. When it does move it's a loud clunk clunk sound like u just dropped the transmission on the ground!! this is happening more often then not now. Hundreds of thousands of people who own this vehicle have complaints about the same issue. No one can figure out the issue! some say a sensor, yet a sensor would not make my transmission clunk like that! a lot say it's the control arm and Ford has had the wrong control arm installed in all there does tauras x"s 2007 and 2009. My car has 77,609 miles on it. It's been doing this for the past 40,000 miles! I'm truely scared to drive this car aspecially in the winter!! Ford you already have been told and are well aware of this issue ! fix it or get sued by tens of thousands of us all petitioning to do so and all together as a group. So buckle up Ford!.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

This has happened about 3 times in the last 2 yrs but while sitting at a light my car suddenly went forward. It didn't go. To far. Maybe a ft or 2 but was enough to scare me. My foot was on the brake. It will also get stuck in gears and lose power on the road. No check engine light is on as of now. One light did come on today while sitting at a light and without notice my car would not go. It was the power throttle/transmission light. I turned the car off and then back on and it drove fine all the way home. It did jerk once. The gear shifting and loss of power happens when I am driving on the highway.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

While stopped at a traffic light the vehicle just took off and I couldn't get car to stop until I put it in neutral while applying the break. Mechanic could not find a reason for this and it doesn't happen all the time . Since other people have had the same or similar problem seems like a recall problem to me. Car tries to drive itself!!!.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

Hood released while driving at 35 mph a total of 3 times. Computer reported a tire sensor inflation issues while driving. Air pressure was fine. Popping, loud grinding noise while driving has returned even after it was serviced due to the drivetrain and transmission. Sounds and feels like something is loose while driving at 45 mph in the suspension, even though we were told that is normal for that vehicle. While turning out from a parking lot, the vehicle sounded and felt like the entire undercarriage had fallen on the ground while we were driving forward. It was very difficult to drive the car forward. We were forced to drive the back roads back to the dealership. The driver side power window goes down while attempting to raise the window. The passenger side power mirror grinds and pops while moving it.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

We are original owners on a 2008 Ford Taurus x with 143000 miles on it. The transmission has been shuttering and shifting roughly for the past 30000 miles or so. Recently my wife was driving at low speed when several warning lights on the dash went off, the miles until empty reading dropped to 0 (3/4 tank of gas remained), and the vehicle would rev but only go 2-3 mph. I entered some of these symptoms into google and found many message board enteries referencing this issue. What concerns me is Ford does not to appear to fix the issue short of replacing the transmission ($4000).

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

While driving on a secondary road the vehicle's power steering system stopped working making it very difficult to maintain control. After getting the car off the road I shut off the engine and checked the power steering belts and fluid. Both were fine. When I restarted the vehicle the steering seemed to be working properly again so I drove home. The steering worked fine until about a block from my house when it failed again.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

My car will jerk and hesitate when I am trying to excelerate slowly, also it will do it while I am doing 50-60 and trying to speed up to pass someone. . I have tried fuel injection cleaner all my fluids have been checked, tune was done, no check engine light and mechanic can not figure out why it is doing it. . It mirrors another complaint exacly. . Also every once in a while the inginiton will sick. . This happens all the time. . Since about February of this year.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

2008 Ford Taurus(automatic transmission) , I was on interstate doing speed-limit 60 mph. When traffic became heavy so was slowed to 45 mph. An when I went to accelerate the car began to jerk an had hesitation like transmission but only when pushed gas pedal. I have notice it bogs down around 60 mph an jerks 3 or 4 times an seems like losing power an then it will pick back up normal drive few more miles an it will repeat. Also checked fluids an they are fine an dash isn't showing any service lights. But when o/d is off it gets intermittent power surge. Also leaving my house got to the stop sign an car would not hold it keep rolling backwards.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

I was driving on a hilly country road at the rate of 40 to 45 miles an hour. As I was coming down an incline, I lost control of the back of the vehicle. The tail end was swaying from side to side like I was driving on ice. As I decelerated and tried to find a safe place to pull off the road, the steering wheel pulled completely to the right while the tail end of the car continued to sway from side to side. Once I was able to stop the car, I could see the part that was holding the rear passenger tire to the frame hanging on the ground.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2014

Made left turn onto major street. There was traffic so everything was slow. As soon as I got onto the street, the engine revved up and started to move faster than I wanted and I put my foot on the brake. The car shot forward and I hit the vehicle in from of me. This was not driver error. It was sudden accelleration. . It caused significant damage to the front end of my car. Luckily, no injuries.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

Vehicle had been parked and turned off for at least 4 hours. A fire was reported to my son who borrowed it for work. He used a fire extinguisher until the local fire department arrived. The fd disconnected the battery and put out the remaining fire. In their report stated the fire was electrical and started under the front dash. The middle to the passenger side of the dash is complete destroyed and melted. Local Ford dealer, byerly Ford estimated $4600 of damage. Also stated that the fire was too intense and cause so much heat damage that a cause could not be determined. Submitted claim to Ford motor company and was informed there was no manufacturer or design issue and would not proceed with any action. Car was serviced regularly and had no mechanical issues.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2011

2008 Ford Taurus, engine dies unexpectedly. Died three different times while making a left turn. Almost got hit with on-coming traffic two times, also dies at stop signs and waiting for light to change. It is very dangerious because difficult to steer with engine dead. Had in shop 2 times but no help.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

The drivers side floor mat on my 2008 Ford Taurus x, shifts/slides to the right, using the floormat latch as a pivot point. This shift in the floor mat causes the floormat to place itself in the vicinity of the accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is depressed to accelerate, it gets lodged behind/underneath the drivers side floor mat, preventing the accelerator from returning to its normal position, and causes the car to accelerate out of control. Ford motor company has been notified of this incident and problem via both email and phonecon. The crc at fmc informed me, the consumer, that since this was an isolated incident, no action or recall investigation would be taken. I feel this incident is a serious safety concern, having the issue happen to me on at least a half a dozen occasions. Fortunately, I have a calm head and know the proper solution to resolve the issue was to place the car in neutral, which causes the engine to rev to its limiter, and slide the floormat out from under the accelerator pedal. I feel I am the exception to the norm of peoples, in that I did react appropriately others would probably not be so calm and Smart in the situation. Fords response to my clear safety concern is disturbing and appalling. I feel the only reason this has been an isolated incident is due to the fact that there are probably not many of these particular models out there that have the use/mileage on it,. Being that it is such a new vehicle. . . In my opinion, this problem will occur in the future, with the resulting serious injury of another individual. . . I recommend someone investigate this issue. . . . Email with fmc crc, stating case number, can be furnished upon request.
