2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2021

I bought this vehicle used from a lot. It had 2 previous owners and came with all the service history. I first noticed the vehicle seemed like it didn’t want to go into overdrive . It would get to about 70 mph which would have the rpm’s at 3k! the 2nd time or so that we got it to these speeds (on interstate) the vehicle suddenly clunked , steering wheel jerked , vehicle lost power - I had my 2 children in the vehicle and I was pregnant. We had to pull over immediately . After sitting side the road for a few , it crunk up and we rode out . Only for it to happen 2 more times. And this is not the only thing effected by this . Not long after I got it , I started noticing a hard shift / clunk / slam when going into gear and especially when the vehicle has just tried to downshift and I pressed the gas again . Due to this , I’m unable to tell when and if we can pull out into traffic and such. I must time it good in order to not risk getting t boned etc. Also, with 3 kids in tow , a vehicle slamming their necks and heads is dangerous and scary. So , I’ve had some work done on . Trying to help my issue. Apparently my issue is the same as a lot of others . Which is an intermittent issue . And apparently no matter if all the passed recalls were addressed. Or if the owners of the vehicle serviced it often and currant . Or if the pcm was reflashed , replaced etc - the Ford Taurus x will continue to have these issues . And these issues seem to be the same issues that were addressed in the Ford recall in 2020 ( which didn’t include the Taurus x) and previous recalls . This drivertrain transmission has been an issue for the Taurus x since forever . Please check into this. Last thing we need is whiplash or life flights from this .

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

Transmission stuck in high gear while in motion. Can't accelerate from stop to maintain speed. Power cycle fixed. Intermittent issue.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

This has happened about 3 times in the last 2 yrs but while sitting at a light my car suddenly went forward. It didn't go. To far. Maybe a ft or 2 but was enough to scare me. My foot was on the brake. It will also get stuck in gears and lose power on the road. No check engine light is on as of now. One light did come on today while sitting at a light and without notice my car would not go. It was the power throttle/transmission light. I turned the car off and then back on and it drove fine all the way home. It did jerk once. The gear shifting and loss of power happens when I am driving on the highway.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

While I was driving on the freeway my car started to idle high and speed gained without me doing it. I tried to push on the brake to slow car down but brake would not work, I got off freeway and pushing as hard as I could on the brake the car slowed somewhat. , there was a hill which caused me to again gain speed and I put car in park and to stopped. I towed to auto repair and when computer test was ran no codes came up.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

I was pulling out of a parking lot, stopped and on the brakes waiting for an opening in traffic when all of the sudden my car tried to surge me forward, revving up very high. It sounded as if the car may blow up. I had to stomp on the brake pedal with both feet and fight to keep from the car throwing me out into traffic. I put the car in park and it stopped. I immediately went to the nearest service station, where they looked at it & took it for a drive. It didn't happen while they looked at it so they told me they have no way of knowing what went wrong with it. My husband called Ford and they claim they have never heard of that and we were the first ones that had that go wrong with their Ford Taurus. I'm very frustrated, I saw numerous complaints on the internet about the exact thing happening to other people. I'm scared to drive my car now, and will no longer teach my son to drive with it. There's no way I'd put my son behind the wheel of it knowing it might throw him into traffic and harm him in any way. Is Ford waiting for a death before they admit to anything?! I need help from anyone to guide me in how to find out what went wrong and how to get it fixed. I have a couple doctor appointments coming up in st louis and I can't get the fear of it happening on an 8 lane highway out of my head. Help!.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2015

Purchased vehicle in Feb 2010. Driven to take children to and from school and back home approx total mileage round trip daily is 6 miles at most. First instance happened when approaching a stop sign and slowing down by pressing the brake but the motor accelerated rpms instead as if I were pressing the gas. Lasted few seconds and began doing as it should. Next instant happened couple months later when pressing the brake to stop after returning home from taking children to school. Tried to stop in my driveway when I reached the house and the motor accelerated instead and had to turn the switch off to make it stop making the acceleration noise. This has happened several times with each time a little more intense. Most recently, while taking my son to a travelball tournament I slowed to stop at a stop sign and it briefly revved the motor. When I tried to start going again it took a second for the car to actually go, then began running normal. Few miles down the road traveling about 45 miles per hour all of a sudden lost all ability to control the vehicle when the motor began accelerating but car slowing down as if it had been knocked out of gear. The difference was it was still in gear and pressing the brake did nothing and steering became very difficult. Managed to get off the road and stopped then it just started driving normal again. Proceeded to drive to destination and slowed to turn right at intersection with oncoming traffic when car did the same thing again. That was a month ago and has not done it since.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

The air bags failed to deploy. The driver did not sustain any injuries and no medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2014

I have a 2008 Ford tauras x , it jerks intermittently, but there is never a specific speed - it jerks at take off, at low speeds, high speeds, there were 2 incidents and it was just for a moment that the vehicle seemed to have lost power no brake, no gas, no steering and I almost went out into traffice ( I was coming out of a parking lot). I called the dealer I bought it from because I thought it was the brakes and took it in they checked the brakes and found nothing wrong. The second "loss" of power was again in a parking lot at an incline I started rolling back and a couple of jerks the vehicle regained power, the check engine light would never come one, as the jerking kept happening and the 2 incidents of loss of power, I took it to a Ford dealer and they said they will charge me $100 but if the check engine light is has not on, they will not find anything because the computer records mishaps and will inicate a record by lighting up. Then my transmission clutch fell apart and had to have that replaced on 9/22/14. I thought that must have been the issue with the jerking but was going out of town yesterday 10/12/14 and accelerated to pass an 18 wheeler and my vehicle jerked really hard and continue a couple more times after that. I had to drive 65mph on a 75 mph, and not accelerate to much to fast.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

When u put the car in reverse or in drive it hesitates to move and it jerks.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

This car has only about 16,000 on it. I was driving on the interstate when I started getting this hard jerk and then the car speed went down to about 30 mph. After a few moments, the speed will pick back up for about a mile or 2. The hard jerk will come again and the transmission will not change out properly. This could have cause an accident on the interstate, so I got off the interstate and started traveling on the back roads to make it home. By the time I got home, I could have hardly make it. I had the car towed to a Ford dealership and they informed me that the transmission was gone out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called the Ford company, but said it was not a recall on the transmission. This is a very serious ordeal, someone could have gotten hurt from this situation. The hard jerk, the speed dropping while the transmission trying to change out. Please look into this matter. I am sure this has happen to others, but has not been reported.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

Started driving and car would just jerk and then would go again and not go into gear. Only could get speed up to 20 or 40mph. Took to delaership and they satate I need a new transmission. Called froda nd they can do nothing about it and still owe on it.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Stopped at a red light, suddenly engine surged, racing like it was going to take off. I stayed on the brake, then put the car in park, it continued to surge. Moved it back to drive and within a few seconds the surging stopped. I was able to continue on without incident. My mechanic checked the vehicle out without finding anything. I took it to a Ford dealer. They went over it, took it out on the road for a test, nothing showed. My concern if it should occur when I didn't have my foot on the brake.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Problem 1, paint peeling off hood and rough metal under problem 2, transmission began failing while under warrenty, dealership could not get any codes to show problem this, has continued to present. Was notifed this week by dealer that transmission needs replaced, but because every time you turn off the car the codes reset. Ford motor company and the dealer do not want to assist in the repairs of over $4500. 00. Bought extended warranty to 75,000 miles and problem first documented on there forms was at 60,000 miles. While driving the car would down shift and jerk. Happened several time and each time took to dealer they could not find a problem. On several occasions the car would not go in reverse but after turning car off and restarting it would.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated abnormally. 22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

(my wife) driving vehicle on highway, car violently jerked (jumped) and then dropped in speed dramatically. Coasted off interstate onto exit and waited for wrench light to go off and then made it home (car would not accelerate over 20mph). We called about having it checked but was informed that they needed to have the wrench light on in order to read anything on it. It has happened a few other times and most recent as today (7/29/14) with the car not wanting to accelerate. Prior to this, my son felt the jerk and thought a tire blew. It will not accelerate so you want to hit gas pedal more and it will suddenly jump (accident waiting to happen). This is obviously an issue with all the complaints I have read. I hope this issue is taken care of quickly before a horrific accident happens. God bless.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

Backing out of driveway- I noticed that steering column was not locked prior to inserting key. Inserted key, turned to start and no response from ignition. Kept turning steering column and decided to engage transmission from park to drive several times. I returned to park-ing the car and removed the key. Initially, steering column was not locked, then I turned the steering wheel several times and then the column locked. Turned the key and the ignition hesitated- the dials were jumping. After several seconds the engine turned over and dials went to normal. I commenced to back out of driveway- the engine rpm jumped, far more then what I was applying acceleration for and the transmission was hesitant ( clunking was audible). The vehicle reversed too rapidly and I applied quite a bit of brake to stop- I shifted to drive and again I could hear the transmission. The car hesitated to go forward ( transmission was clunking), jerking forward and slowing down and the engine rpm was erratic. I pulled to the side and placed car in neutral; waited a minute which during this time, the vehicle rpm went to normal. Ok, I placed gear in drive and vehicle responded normally. Have had several instances of some of the above described events happening since original occurrence. At this moment, steering column is not locked with the key removed and when turning car to start the ignition is just turning over.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

On wed. Aug, 1, 2012, I was driving on the expressway, the accelerator pedal on my 2008 Ford Taurus sped up by itself. I thought the cruise button came on by itself or that the floor mat was stuck on the accelerator pedal car causing the vehicle to go going real fast, (but it wasn't) I hit the brake, moved to the right shoulder and put the car in low then neutral then turned the car off. It happened again two days later, on Friday, August 3, 2012 and I was on the expressway again. Scared me to death, and it is extremely dangerous, I am taking it in to a Ford dealer for repair.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated while driving 55-60 mph. The contact was able to reduce the speed by applying the brake with force. The failure was experienced a second time and the vehicle had to be shifted into neutral to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed but was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 53,000.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while the brakes were depressed the vehicle accelerated un-expectedly on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,700 and the current mileage was 36,927.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

A few times when accelerating, the engine revs and it seems like it gets "stuck". When it happens, I take my foot off the accelerator or pump the accelerator and then the brake to set it right.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

It began with only the wrench light going on and the rpm would go up and the car would lurch forward. I would reset it with a code checker and I would not have the problem. The problem and the light would eventually return. It was recommended to change the ari filter, the air filter was changed and the problem went away for approximately 3 weeks. Now not only my wrench light but my engine light also goes on and it returns every day after resetting it. After I looked up the problem on the internet I found that the problems seems to appear in other Ford models. I am very surprised that this is not a recall. This is a safety hazard and eventually someone will get hurt or killed before anything is done about this issue.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

I have had nothing but problems with this car since I purchased it in 2010 with 32,000 miles on it. I purchased it in April and by the end of the first summer of driving it began to lose all power when driving slowly I would not be able turn the wheel or anything. Luckily all times it happened I was in a parking lot or at a stop sign. Ford said it needed a computer update which was not covered under the warranty. I paid 66. 00 for the update, it did not work my car still lose power sometimes when coasting. My car also accelerates without warning. This is very scary because this is my main vehicle and I have two small children. Ford says there they haven't witnessed the issue while driving it so they can't find the problem. Also with in that first year of owning this car my wrench light came on and remained on took it to the dealer and it now needed the throttle body replaced. It was still under warranty so I "only" needed to pay the 100. 00 deductible. I did and it was replaced. Sometimes the car will also unexpectedly grind to a halt. No idea what that is but it doesnâ??t happen frequently enough for them to witness it so they can't find the problem. To add to the list the passenger door is not sealed correctly and whenever it rains the inside of the door becomes filled with water, but thatâ??s not covered under warranty at all. And finally the paint on the hood is bubbling and chipping. The car is four years old now and no longer under the factory warranty so they won't cover it. I feel completely taken advantage of and I have no idea where to turn or what to do but I feel this car will not last the length of the loan. And I feel very unsafe driving my children in this vehicle. It makes me sick. I will never ever buy another Ford. Ford should step up and take responsibility before someone gets seriously injured.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2011

The vehicle was merging into a lane of bumper to bumper traffic with the air conditioner on and it lurched forward in such a way that the brake needed to be applied so the the vehicle would not hit another vehicle. The driver felt as if she was not in control & the vehicle quickly accelerated without the driver pressing the gas pedal.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

Vehicle was accelerating without any command.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 3 mph the rpms increased and the vehicle would accelerate over 30 mph. He stated that the failure occurred one week after the vehicle was purchased. The contact stated that he immediately drove the vehicle back to the dealer and the computer was reprogrammed; however, the failure occurred eight times. The contact stated that on two occasions the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a Ford event data recorder was placed in the vehicle. The event data recorder was installed incorrectly and did not detect any failures. He stated that the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. The failure recurred on June 30, 2010 while driving 35 mph. The brakes were engaged and the contact was forced to shift into neutral gear. The contact called the manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer so that they could diagnose the failure again. The contact has requested to have a Ford engineer to determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was 13,600.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Not long after purchase of Ford Taurus, when stopping at light/sign the engine would stay revved up to 3000+ rpm -- only very firm (two foot) braking kept at stop -- moved to neutral to correct. Had dealer check (7/9/08) and they said they could find no problem. Has happen 3-4 times since. Fortunately, have been aware and could avoid major problem. With recent developments, this car has similar characteristics.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2007

I bought a 2008 Ford Taurus in Sep 2008. Over the last three weeks, I have had three incidences of engine surge while stopped and the brakes applied. The first two incidences occurred when the car was cold, shortly after leaving my house. The surge today occurred when the engine was hot. The engine surges to about 2000 rpm, no accelerator involved. I have not spoken with the dealer yet but will take the car in for check tomorrow morning. This is a heads up for anyone else having the new Ford engine and possibly experiencing the same problem. For a person capable of applying only light brake pressure, the car lurching forward is a real hazard.
