Electronic Stability Control Problems of Ford Transit Connect

Electronic Stability Control problem #1

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was vibrating. The rotors then overheated, causing the brakes to seize. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the calipers, brakes, and rotors; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit (hcu) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

Electronic Stability Control problem #2

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while driving at 20 mph and coming to a complete stop, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle stopped. However, as he released the brake pedal to drive from the complete stop, the vehicle failed to move. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle responded at a significant low speed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front brakes and the rear driver's side brake were not releasing pressure upon depressing the brake pedal. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the brake hydraulic control unit (hcu) pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) as the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the abs, stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. There was an abnormal dinging sound detected. The brakes, power steering and speedometer became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while at a stop light and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not accelerate due to the anti-lock braking system not releasing as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and he stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure stated in NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was included in the recall. The failure mileage 110,000.

Upon starting the vehicle, the dashboard does not provide information, power brakes do not seem to function, power steering quits and several items show up on dash. Upon cutting car off and restarting, they may all be corrected. The next time car is started, it may or may not recur. This has happened about six times recently as late as today. Our fear is we will lose control of the car while driving at highway speeds. It seems many functions are controlled by computers that have a flaw. Brakes also lose power.

On Saturday August 1, 2020, me and my wife drove a car after work around 6:30pm. This Ford Transit Connect has been driving a month since we bought it. When we took on the road with around 30miles speed 10minutes after we left, suddenly a warning message came up said that "pre-collision assist not available". As we saw the message we had never seen before, we slightly reduced a speed below 25miles and kept driving. We slowly push an accelerator to speed up again, however suddenly we heard clunk sound, and the car shook back and forth. Rpm indicator move abnormally. We tried to find a right place for pulling off a car, however we couldn't find it immediately. Around 3 miles drove, we pull off a car and turned engine off. After a while, turn it on again. A warning message is still on. A car still shook back and forth while we drove and return to home.

When half or 3/4 loaded going up a hill on hwy van down shifts a jerks in to gear . Feels like you got kicked off a horse . Most noticable between 40mph and 50 mph. . This has damaged 3 sets of motor mounts in 117,000 miles started st 15000 miles and getting worse at dealer again.

Could not drive in slushy snow, vehicle self cut power in middle of road, there is no way to disable traction control so vehicle can spin to gain forward movement. This situation almost caused head on collision with oncoming vehicle. I had to keep backing up to try to gain forward motion. If I had been able to disable traction control so the vehicle could spin just a little, I would have had no incident. This situation is very unsafe in the snowy conditions. In reading about this, other people have had the same issue. To disable this system people are pulling the fuse on these vehicles to solve this issue. This is very unsafe. Ford needs to install an temporary interrupt to solve this very unsafe condition.

I found pulling on to a 55 mph highway starting from a gravel lot, I allow plenty of space from traffic and, if I get the slightest when spin, the power drops and I am half in traffic and can't move for a few seconds. I have had cars honk and weave around me to avoid collision. I made a great distance to be safe and I was almost hit by stalling in the lane. 4 seconds at 60 mph is 352 feet. It goes away quick. Others report the same problem in the snow trapping the van in place. Others have pulled fuse 191 to disable all abs and traction control functions. You can't do that in traffic. Has no-one crashed, or been killed by this? Ford offers no solution for this death trap.

I purchased a 2013 Transit Connect from a Ford dealer this fall. Still under Ford warranty and purchased extended warranty through Ford. Today we got our first snow and while driving the tcs kicked in and basically disabled the vehicle. I was unable to move, so while I had my foot on the accelerator the vehicles tvs light was on but the vehicle would not move. I opened the owners manual and looked for the tcs shut off button listed in the manual and my vehicle does have one. So now I realize I am in a dangerous situation because I cannot move and other vehicle including two wheel drive cars are driving around me. I just invested $20,000 in a vehicle for my business ( heating/cooling/electric) and I cannot even get to the customers house with and inch of snow on the ground. I was able to finally reverse to a driveway and after 30 minutes get the vehicle to move down the small grade. I literally was able to drive a 14 year old Honda civic that cost $3200 up the slight slope that a like new with only 32k miles on it Transit Connect would not go. I feel this is a safety hazard and I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle. So far the local dealership and Fords customer care line have no answers for me. Why in the owners manual is there a listed tcs shut off button and a location on my dashboard for it but no part # or option to add it to my vehicle. I invested in this Ford for my business and now I cannot even get to customers homes. I am afraid to drive it now and not sure what to do since the dealer has no answers and Ford had none either. I cannot believe that the engineers at Ford motor company did not think to out this tcs off button on all vehicle equipped with tcs and that the NHTSA has not fined Ford motor company they have not issued a recall. , how can engineers designe a vehicle for the USA that will not move in an inch of snow?.

After light freezing rain, I was unable to get traction going up a slight hill that is usually not a problem. I was trying to go 20-25 miles/ hour on a two lane street. I down shifted, I tried less gas, I tried more gas, nothing helped. I was passed by approximately 50 cars, 4 of them were Toyota priuses. None of them had significant difficulty getting traction. I even began to slide backwards at one point. It took me approximately 15 minutes to go approximately 1/8th of a mile. I could not even get out of the way. I finally made it to a driveway with a couple inches of snow, and was able to gain enough traction to proceed slowly. I have the best studless snow tires available through a reputable tire company. The pressure was just checked yesterday to ensure that there was not a tire issue. I called the dealer after reviewing the manual, and asked is a switch to disengage the traction control system could be added. He understood immediately, and stated they were familiar with the problem. . . . He made some phone calls and confirmed that nothing could be done. This is a terrible safety issue. If I had been on the highway, in an intersection, or crossing a highway, I would have been a sitting duck. I could have been killed, and those trying to avoid me could have been killed.

My initial problem was traction control. If you slip coming out of a driveway and you hit gravel, mud, snow, rain your traction control will stop you in the middle of the street and you cannot drive. Kind of a problem with cars coming right at you. Problem 2 is that this seems to also affect the wheel bearings and cause premature failure. I am going on my second replacement at 72,000 miles. Problem 3 is that when the wheel bearings fail they wear on your rotors and I am now also needing to replace those also. I certainly hope that this gets addressed soon. This vehicle is not only a safety hazard it is also a money pit.

The Ford Transit Connect needs a way to turn off the traction control in snow and ice. I got stuck in the snow today and because I can not turn this feature off I could not rock the vehicle out of the snow, creating a traffic jam until I was able to be towed out. Please make Ford create a way that can allow this system to be turned off.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds in the snow, the vehicle stalled due to the traction control independently assuming the vehicle was slipping. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was told that the vehicle was performing as designed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 18,000 and the current mileage was 48,000. Kmj.

Traction control system (tcs) has caused vehicle to stop in traffic while driving up steep grade in snow or wet/muddy road. Unable to recover traction and no method to turn off tcs. Veh must be backed off hill in neutral. Veh now sitting on side of road, waiting for spring sun to recover.
