Ford Transit Connect owners have reported 13 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Transit Connect based on all problems reported for the Transit Connect.
1. The heat shielding around the exhaust system failed to protect the fuel tank from exhaust heat. Heat from the exhaust system melted holes in the fuel tank, causing fuel to leak from the tank. The parts are at the Ford dealer with the vehicle. 2. The fuel tank developed leaks when it melted, causing a risk of fire or explosion. 3. The dealer confirmed that the fuel tank melted and leaked due to heat from the exhaust system. In diagnosing the issue, they refilled the fuel tank and it continued to leak. 4. To my knowledge, the vehicle or components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. My insurance chose not to be involved since it does not fall under "comprehensive" coverage, as there was no theft, vandalism, storm, or animal damage. 5. The vehicle waring lamps did not indicate the melting of the fuel tank or the leak. I was not aware that there was damage to the fuel tank or a fuel leak at the time. The vehicle simply ceased to run and would not start. I was towed to a Ford dealership. A week later the dealership called to inform me that they had added fuel to the tank to diagnose the starting issue, but were still unable to start, and wanted to replace the fuel pump. I explained that the tank had been filled only about 80 miles before, so there was some issue. Another week later, the dealer informed me that when replacing the fuel pump they had found that the tank had been melted. This was when I was first aware of the issue with the fuel tank.

This vehicle keeps flashing service engine soon light and malfunction indicator lamp. Dealer is keep saying that there are nothing to fix the issue. However, they have noted that it might be related to fueling hole and also fuel misfire. Dealer is not addressing the issue and on the manual page 99, it advises not to operate the vehicle when both lights flash together. However, dealer is not addressing the issue. Please help.

While traveling at highway speed the vehicle suddenly and without any warning lost propulsion and died forcing the driver to pull over. As a result of how sudden the failure was the driver was just barely able to find a safe place to pull off the road. The vehicle would not start or run leaving the driver and his passengers stranded in the hot weather. This very easily could have resulted in an accident as the vehicle was going up hill on a mountain road with many curves. After taking the vehicle to the Ford dealership it was determined that the throttle body had failed suddenly and without warning. There were never any service lights that illuminated when the problem occurred. We are reporting so that there is a record in case this becomes a common issue with other vehicles of this type.

Vehicle is currently being repaired at a Ford dealer. They have diagnosed the malfunction as a fuel pump failure and have ordered replacement parts. I will ask the service center to save the parts. The vehicle lost power in the fast lane of i5. Traffic was moving at or above the 70 mph posted speed limit including large trucks. I was able to turn on the 4 way flashers, change lanes, and move the vehicle to the shoulder out of traffic, but the situation could have easily resulted in a collision due to the abrupt loss of power. It was towed to the Ford dealer 15 miles from the incident when it would could not be restarted. Because the shoulder was narrow there was insufficient room for me to safely open the drivers side door and deploy my wheelchair lift and transfer seat to exit the vehicle. It took approximately an hour for aaa to arrive in 100 degree weather. I don't believe the dealer has removed the defective pump yet but they were unable to start the vehicle because of the problem. There was no warning anything was wrong, it simply slowed down and did not respond to giving more gas. Attempts to restart the vehicle on the side of the road resulted in the engine misfiring and rapidly dying. The next morning at the dealer the car turned over ok but did not show any signs of starting. No warning lights were present. This vehicle has only 28,000 miles on it and there are reports of both a fuel pump recall on some 2014 Ford Transit Connect vans, and other early failures on vans not in the recall indicating the problem may not be confined within the scope of the original recall.

The muffler split open most likely from a clog. Because of that, the exhaust was directed toward the floor of the truck instead of going out of the muffler. As a result, it burnt through the heat shield, the back of the truck, melted the wiring harness, and burned a hole straight through the fuel tank. A mechanic took out the fuel tank and when it was being dropped out fuel spilled everywhere and there was a hole in the side of the tank. Since the wiring harness was melted, there was no power and no fuel pump power. The safety of the driver was put at risk because the car could have easily started on fire, or the fuel tank could have blown up and injured the driver or worse.

There was a recall for potential engine fire issues. I took the van to for several time to ask about this and was told the vehicle I had was not part of the recall. I eventually sold the van to a friend of mine with about 106,000 miles on it. I also advised him of the recall info and told him Ford said it was not part of the recall. The vehicle burnt to the ground with in 10,000 miles after I sold it to him. It was traveling down the freeway at about 60 when they notice smoke coming from the cowling and pulled over. The van then burst in to flame forward of the windshield no one was injured but the fire did make it to the front seating area.
As with the existing recall campaign on 2013 - 2014 Ford fusions and 2013 - 2016 Ford escapes, the bushing on the transmission shift cable is deteriorating on the transmission end. It must be the same part as the recall replacement bushing fits perfectly. I was stuck in a parking lot until I figured it out and got a new bushing.
Just got this vehicle, was purchased as used but with warranty still as it only had 16500 miles. After driving for few weeks I had the following problems. #1 fuel economy on vehicle is 15 miles per gallon (on a 4 cylinder engine?). Previously taken to dealer where they replaced a recall part (throttle body) as it was doing only 13 miles to the gallon. Dealer states that is working normal???? #2 after driving for 4 hours or more (city or highway) hot air comes out of air vents even when outside temp is 40 degrees fe. ( and temp is set to low on cluster). 20 degrees deference is not ok (maybe in winter but not in summer). Dealer was able to replicate the problem and call Ford engineers, to which they said that it is normal. Dealer was able to replicate the same issue on 3 similar vehicles but still Ford states that it is normal??? hot air coming out of vents at 70 degrees when it is 55 degrees outside is not normal.

Fuel efficiency far from stated. This IA an XLT model with a 1. 6l ecoboost engine, and a stated mpg efficiency of 25/29. The actual measured hwy efficiency is 22. 3 mpg while on cruise control, at interstate highway posted speed limits, on wind-less, sunny days, and zero-load other than driver's weight. The efficiency above noted has been repetitively measured over the first 3,500 miles of vehicle use.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Transit Connect. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v005000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact stated that the part needed was not available within a reasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available and the contact was unable to obtain the vehicle until the repair was performed. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact was not experiencing a failure.

On start up after it has been warm and then gotten cold vehcile check engine light comes on and ecu stores codes p2101,p2111 and p2135. Throttle body becomes disabled and vehcile will run poorly and not accelerate. Replaced with new Ford throttle body assembly part# 8s4z9e926b @ this time in December. Fixed problem and vehicle was running fine. Fix lasted until 2/17/14 and about 6000 miles and now have the same exact problem again with same codes. I see several complaints about escapes having this same problem. Is the throttle body a shared part? this problem could be very dangerous if it was to happen while out driving. Fortanatley for us it happened both times on cold start up.
