36 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 03/02/2023

2015 Ford Transit Connect 150: while driving on the freeway 60-65 mph, the brakes seem to lock up without depressing the pedal, slowing to 40 mph and shaking uncontrollably. Putting on the brake to exit the flow of traffic, braking caused the vehicle to shake even more finally by pumping the accelerator, the speed increased again. Finally getting off of the freeway the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to pump the brake pedal until it finally reacted. Less than a week later, getting on the freeway almost the exact thing happened. Luckily I was a bit more prepared when I felt the shaking. Today, driving the van back to our warehouse approx 15 miles on regular streets (not freeway driving) the brakes again went to the floor. Master cylinder not leaking, brakes seem to be in good shape. . . But something is wrong we brought the vehicle to sawgrass Ford in sunrise florida. They had it for over a month. They were unable to determine the problem and only made suggestions to completely change out all the brake components for $5-$6,000. 00 but also said that they could not guarantee that this would fix the problem. The brakes were serviced approximately 6-7 months prior to these incidents I called corporate Ford office. Was told that the 2016 Ford Transit Connect had brake hydrolic control unit recalls, but the 2015 doesn't have the recall listed. I also looking on manywebsites to verify any other2015/2016 problems with the brakes "locking up" or vehicle going into safe mode (another possibility) there were numerous complaints and concerns regarding 2016 & even 2017 situations very similar to what I went through. Ford told me that model dv6z2c405d brake hydrolic control unit did not have an official recall. But that Ford stopped using that model and started using model ek4z2c405a which was recalled and then replaced the recall with fk4z2c405c. Seems like there may have been a problem with the 2015 model which caused the to change and with the 2016 model as well.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 01/24/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was vibrating. The rotors then overheated, causing the brakes to seize. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the calipers, brakes, and rotors; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit (hcu) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/09/2022

The abs control/hydraulic unit failed over a period of months. At first I thought it was a master cylinder issue and replaced that but it did not cure the problem. My wife had an issue several times where she thought the transmission was acting up but I could not replicate it, until the brakes really started to lock up. It got to the point where the brakes would stay locked up after any application and would slowly release after five to fifteen minutes. I had the dealership look at it and explained what I had found. If you cracked the metal brake line to hose connection at the right front and left rear, the brakes would release. The dealer did not agree with me, they wanted to replace the entire base braking system. I pulled it out of the dealer and took it to an independent repair shop. The part is presently in the hands of the repair garage but has a core charge on it. The component has not been inspected by anyone. No warning lamps appeared at any time.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/02/2022

July2, 2022 Saturday, 4pm 2021 Ford Transit Connect titanium -sudden unintended acceleration I was making a very slow (2-3mph) u-turn in an empty, very small strip mall parking lot with the brake being lightly pushed as I went around tight left turn. 3/4 thru the turn the van suddenly accelerated while I believe the brake pedal was still being pushed, I pushed the brake pedal down hard but the van continued to accelerate. . It wouldn't slow down. The van jumped the curb and ran into a 4' square cement planter on the sidewalk, sliding the planter about 3 ft. Forward. The whole sudden acceleration happened within about 3-5 seconds and was stopped by the cement planter, cutting off the engine. All front airbags were deployed. A few cuts and bruises from the airbags required no medical attention. No citations were issued by the police. The vehicle damage has been estimated at 27,000 and the insurance company is deciding whether to total it or repair it.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Some portion of the brakes master cylinder degraded into small pieces and were found in the brake lines by a Ford dealership technician. While traveling on highway at highway speeds (70mph), about an hour into a trip, the brakes locked on which caused vehicle to travel into the median and slide sideways. The vehicle had to be coaxed (put in manual mode), to get it off highway and limped to dealership. The technician replaced the master cylinder and noted the debris in the brake lines, therefore, he bled all the brake lines to clear the debris. There was no accident (luckily it was avoided), therefore, no insurance or police inspection. Only inspected by Ford dealership personnel. The only warning lamp that was illuminated was the tire pressure warning, since a spare tire was being used at the time.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated while an employee was driving 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated on July 14, 2023, while the same employee was driving the vehicle and was releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle started losing motive power and slowed unintendedly. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The employee continued driving to the independent mechanic and was informed that the brake rotors, brake pads, and the front driver’s side and the rear passenger’s side calipers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the mechanic then stated that the hydraulic control unit (hcu) pump was faulty. Upon investigation, the mechanic associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16v482000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the hydraulic control unit (hcu) pump to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

On Friday the 22nd of April I was on the interstate and the vehicle began to slow down and make a scrubbing/grinding noise. I took the exit and by the time I reached the crossroad the vehicle would barely move. The brakes were almost completely locked. There was no warning and no diagnostic light was on. Luckily I was able to get off on the shoulder of the road so no one was in danger. The next day the dealer said my brake hoses had deteriorated but after replacing them the problem persisted. They now say the 'hydraulic control module' has failed. This module controls all the braking, sway control functions. There was a safety recall for this module earlier but they said my VIN was not listed in the recall. The dealer (forrester's Lincoln 832 Lincoln way east, chambersburg, PA 17201 717-264-4914) has ordered the replacement part. I believe that the problem may include other vehicles not included in the original recall.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 10/15/2021

On October 15, 2021, I was driving my 2016 Ford Transit Connect at approximately 55mph on a state road. I was closing in on a slow-moving truck, and pressed the brake pedal just to slow down about 5mph. At this point, the brake electronic control module failed, locking up the left front caliper, nearly pulling me into oncoming traffic. I was able to get stopped and pulled over to the side of the road, where I found the affected brake (left front) was smoking hot. I shut the vehicle off and waited for it to cool, and upon restarted, the brake ecm allowed the caliper to open enough to drive it home, and then directly to the repair shop. The repair shop determined the brake ecm was randomly locking up one of the four calipers about 1 in 10 times. There were no warning indicators prior to the issue. The shop has all the details (runyon corp, po box 384/445, west main st. Morristown in, 46161, (765) 763-1271. They would have the old brake ecm. This issue occurred with 64,342 miles on the vehicle. I have contacted Ford, and was told other, similar vehicles of the same year and model had a recall on the brake ecms, but my VIN was not included in the recall. This is a dangerous situation, and had I not had both hands on the wheel, it would have caused a head-on collision.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Transit Connect

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

My initial problem was traction control. If you slip coming out of a driveway and you hit gravel, mud, snow, rain your traction control will stop you in the middle of the street and you cannot drive. Kind of a problem with cars coming right at you. Problem 2 is that this seems to also affect the wheel bearings and cause premature failure. I am going on my second replacement at 72,000 miles. Problem 3 is that when the wheel bearings fail they wear on your rotors and I am now also needing to replace those also. I certainly hope that this gets addressed soon. This vehicle is not only a safety hazard it is also a money pit.
