1 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact noticed one arm was fractured on the liftgate. The contact's daughter sustained injuries to the hand, but did not require medical attention. The dealer diagnosed that the arms needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was undetermined. In addition, the side air bag warning indicator illuminated contiuously. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v415000 (structure) and 14v118000 (air bags). The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that when the vehicle is in park, the rear liftgate failed to open. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. Jw.

3 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle's rear lift gate was up and when the contact was placing something in the rear of the vehicle, the lift gate collapsed and hit her. The rear lift gate was able to be opened up however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gas struts that hold the liftgate up needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v415000 (structure) however, the part to do the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. Ed.
