1 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the power steering pump was faulty and diagnostic testing was required. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

2 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2017

The steering in my 2008 gms Acadia is severely tightening when I'm at low speed making a turn into parking space or garage for example. Its very hard to turn and is dangerous. We've had the power steering pump replaced one time before but this is the first time we've had this issue. I have 123,000 miles on the vehicle. This issue should be required to be recalled.

3 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2016

Steering became very tight while driving almost causing an accident. Could not hardly turn the steering wheel at all. Had never been notified this vehicle had defective parts that could have been replaced under a warranty extension. My husband travels for a living in his vehicle so he puts a lot of miles on it and when it first happened he had 178,085 miles and we had to replace a power steering pump. Now at 184,624 miles we are putting our second power steering pump and finding out that now the gear will have to be replaced. Don't know why we were not notified not to mention this vehicle is a death trap and my husband or someone else could have been killed by this happening. Now I look online and there are hundreds if not thousands of people having the same issue. Why was a recall not done on this? a warranty extension is not good enough when people can be killed. This is as bad and the air bag recall if not worse.

4 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

2008 Acadia purchased new. Noticed power steering becoming more and more difficult at low engine speed over the last couple of years. Fluid level ok. Took to dealer to assess and quote. They said it was a common problem with Acadia, traverse, outlook, and enclave. They said it needed power steering pump, reservoir and steering rack, about 1,100 dollars to fix. They said gm had extended the warranty to 120,000 and my vehicle was not covered. 152,000 actual miles. I googled this problem and found out just how common it is, and that the warranty coverage actually was to 150,225 miles. I called the GMC customer engagement center after stewing over this for a couple of months. They said that since I was beyond the allowed mileage, there was nothing they could do. I was talking with my boss about this. He has a 2009 enclave with 60k miles. He is having the same problem with steering, and dealer told him it was not covered. I showed him what I had found. He is going back to the dealer with documentation. This is a serious safety issue when steering is entirely manual at low engine speed for instance pulling into a parking spot or drive. Even turning a corner when not accelerating. Parallel parking is almost impossible. Gm should have recalled these vehicles. I am going to have to pay to get this fixed. Gm has just lost a customer.

5 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

I own a 2008 GMC Acadia I have had it used since Jan 2015 I have had it in dealership almost every 3 months since I bought it. I was recently driving and had a fire in the passenger heated seat where my daughter was sitting and it burned a small hole in her jeans so far GMC is checking to see if its a defective equipment failure or not? in the mean time my sunroof has quit working and now my roof is leaking and my car smells like mold. The whole electrical system is going crazy with flashes of interior lights. I also had the vehicle stop on me in the middle of parking and found out the power steering pump needed to be replaced. They need to have a recall on these vehicles because our children ride with us and they are unsafe especially now that her jeans are burned and she has a small pink spot from the heated seat. The dealership told me today likely the seat wont be replaced and if its not I will be contacting me a lawyer. My children s safety come first. Hopefully the will also do a recall on the electrical equipment and the sunroof leaking because our vehicles are not safe after water gets onto all the electrical devices and shorts out and may cause a fire next.

6 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2015

Temporary and intermittent loss of power steering during maneuvering and turning causes safety and control issues. During the loss of power steering event the steering wheel requires a driver to apply more than normal amounts of torque to get the steering wheel to rotate. This is especially true (requires more than normal amounts of torque) when the speed of the steering wheel input is increased to perform sharp turns or low speed maneuvering. This is a known problem, but gm will not fix the problem based on reports from consumers who have had the problem. They will fix this safety issue if there a complete failure of the power steering pump that can be recreated in the garage by their dealer service department. This presents a safety issue, because a complete failure in the system is then going to occur while driving on public roadways and may result in a crash prior to getting the vehicle to the dealership for repairs. This event may happen 0 to 5 times a day/trip.

7 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer because of a recall on the steering pump. The steering ability got a little harder. The mechanic noticed as well and the diagnosis was that the power steering rack was damaged because the power steering pump was fractured therefor damaging the rack. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 886,922. Bp.

10 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

Three times in one day my arcadia GMC 2008, steering refused to respond correctly. Each of the tree times it refused to steer. Car on no other time has shown this problem before now. But only purchased used car three months ago. This seems to be a common problem with car that is not being handled under a recall. Steering box and power steering pump on car seem very underpowered. On the three times it happened on 3/20/2014 two where on highway driving conditions in which I was on an on ramp attempting to navigate a circle on ramp in which I almost had to stop car to prevent it from running off road do to lack of power on turn. On another I was attempting to preform a u-turn in which I almost hit a cub. U turn should have been easy do to the fact I had three lanes to preform the turn. In this case I came extremely close to curb and close to damaging car due to impact with 8 inch curb. All three events came on same trip!.

11 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2014

Locked up making a turn going slow, pump getting noisy, just got back for water pump replace.

12 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

At low speed, power steering seemed to go out while in parking lot. The steering became very difficult to manage with a loud clunking noise coming from the front end. Shutting off and back on, steering returned to normal. Took it in for service at gm dealership in evansville, in for diagnosis and response was that the power steering pump, fluid and steering rack needed to be replaced. Investigation online turned up information that this is a relatively common occurrence but gm would not do anything about it as it was outside of warranty.

13 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

We purchased our 2008 Acadia in 2011, it had approximately 30,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. Less than thirty days after purchase we had to replace the front rotors. At 40,000 miles we had to replace the front brakes; the air conditioner backed up, which required maintenance to the blower motor; and the head lights went out, which required replacement. At 45,000 miles the rear struts went out, which required replacement; and we had to replace two tires. At 60,000 miles the water pump went out and needed to be replaced. At 55,000 miles the front struts went out, which needed replacing, along with four new tires, and a new set of headlights. At 60,000 miles the rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. At 70,000 miles the transmission went out, which also required replacement. The final incident happened on 6/10/13 at 74,000 miles, while I was driving with all three of my children. I was going 50 miles an hour on a highway, and the entire car shut down. The steering console locked with the keys in the ignition, I had no ability to steer the vehicle, the brakes did not function either. I had to use the parking brake to slow the vehicle down, barely avoiding a collision with another vehicle.

14 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

2008 GMC Acadia- steering problems!!- 65,000 started noticing power steering loss when slow turning sometimes. . . Off and on. . . Then got more often and much worse. . . Replaced rack ($300). . . . . Problem still not fixed. . . Next trying to replace power steering pump ($$ yet to find out). . . Recall on headlight- socket melted and replaced. . . . Airbag light continues to come off and on. . . Traction control, stability track, and airbag light come off and on randomly. No sound. . . Took to GMC dealership, they told us it was the radio. Replaced radio($450), still didn't work. Dealership stated amp blew and needed new amp ($400). . . Thought it was the amp the entire time due to the cd player working visually, but no sound in entire vechicle for any electronic feature. Shifting randomly when going down highway. Gas mileage horrible-- about 14 to 14 . 5mpg-- much worse than when we first got it at 48,000. . . Love the look and when it works. . . . Why is there no recall will the power steering?? come on GMC step up and do the right thing already!!!.

15 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

My wife was driving the vehicle and approached a stop sign. Once she tried going again the car would not accelerate and we had to tow it to the dealer. They said the transmission went out @ 68,000 miles? also the waterpump, powersteering pump. Master cylinder, as well as something with an air bag connector. The air bag connector has been going on and off for the last two years since we bought it two years ago as a gm certified pre-owned vehicle. I am not sure how this vehicle has not been recalled.

16 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Transmission started failing and finally went out at 108,000 miles, sitting in our driveway and we had to have it towed to dealer. Gm dealer replaced it under warranty but the labor cost us several thousand dollars. Now at 170,000 miles, this remanufactured transmission is now going out. It sticks in low speed and then overheats driving 65mph in 40deg weather. The dealer claims that a stretched timing chain has to be fixed first, before the transmission, at a cost of $1944. They also said the on board computer didn't store the numerous overheated transmission events that began occurring immediately after the remanufactured transmission was installed at 108,000 miles. The gm dealer is trying to tell me that the transmission is probably ok and that the overheating is due to some other reason, but he then couldn't even guess at what the other reasons might be! the fluid level is good, and the vehicle has a tow package with a cooler for the transmission fluid. Gm dealer said the transmission will be covered by warranty, which will likely mean another several thousand dollar labor charge on top of the so called stretched timing chain cost of $1,900. The power steering pump has been whining for about a year and is getting loud. The navigation and dvd player system failed twice. Might be time to trade the vehicle for something more reliable. My wife is getting scared to drive it too far and end up being broken down in atlanta traffic. . . Very dangerous.
