1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

The stabilizer/traction control keeps going off and it will stay off. I can turn, hit a bump or start it up and the traction control/stabilizer system is off. I almost had a accident on the freeway in the rain because it turned off out of nowhere and I almost lost control. Also I was going down the road and all of a sudden my vehicle died and I had little control over vehicle. Once it came to stop it would not start again and when attempting it sounded like something was stuck in my fan or something because of the way it rattled and sounded and was rough sounding. Vehicle was inoperable and had to be towed. Upon investigating it was the timing chain kit that had failed suddenly for no apparent reason. Vehicle was well maintained and kept accordance with running policies and practices required and suggested by manufacturer. Still the failing caused engine damage that is well in to the several thousands of dollars and engine must be replaced due to this issue failing and I have noticed several thousand people having this same very issue and rendering them a foot and vehicle less due to the high cost of fixing without any warning or engine light or code suggesting of the timing chain kit failing or about to fail before stranding a person wherever and whenever unexpectedly and suddenly without any warning or check engine light at all. No oem code to validate the issue either. Manufacturer should be held liable for the exact same issue occuring in so many of the multitude of people experiencing the same exact issue causing financial turmoil and risk of disaster or collision and harm when the timing chain kit fails suddenly. This is a huge and vast problem I have found with multitude of Acadia owners and should be addressed because to not honor a issue of so many experiencing the same issue occuring should be reconciled and corrected at the manufacturer cost due to it being their liability in making the faulty part of device to begin with causing vast financial hardships.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2022

The wire harness corroded , and it caused everything in my car to stop working my back passenger window won’t go down , my back driver side cannot be put up or down from the back , my airbag light is now on and now my car will not shift while driving to allow me to drive it over 30mph . . I’ve paid the dealer almost $1400 to fix wiring. I’ve owned the car exactly a year now.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The vehicle started giving us problems. While driving at normal speeds (25 - 30 mph) the motor will start to shutter or jump around. After taking it ot a local dealership we found that the issue is a the timing chain. I also did some research and found this to be a common problem between 120,000 and 200,000 miles. Gm only offered an extension up to 120,000 miles. This is a costly repair that we can not afford. Gm knows this is a continous problem but refuses to take responsability for it. I am getting a p0007 code and the check engine light stays on all the time! I have been a loyal gm customer for 20 plus years. Most recently I have been considering leaving them for another manufacturer since this is not the first time being screwed over by them in the past 3 - 4 years.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

While driving the vehicle at 45mph I received a low oil pressure shut off engine. Oil was fine so we took it to have the oil changed. Light came back on. There are no codes being stored in the system. Everyone is guessing what could be wrong with it from a bad oil pump or the pan needs to be cleaned. There is a forum a bunch of other people having the same problem and spending thousands and getting nowhere. Some have had to have a whole new engine installed. Gm says there are no bulletins and they will give me a 100 $ for the vehicle to be serviced by a tech. Just to be checked is 250 $ not including any fixes for the issue.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

I was experiencing problems driving my vehicle. It was riding rough and making a loud noise when I accelerated, so I took it to my mechanic and I got spark plugs and an oil change-still was riding rough. I went back and got a cam shaft position replaced-still nothing changed. I took it to another mechanic. He said it was an O2 censor. Changed it and nothing changed. No one could tell me what was wrong or what the noise was. Finally one morning on my way to work I had to pull over on the highway bc the car wouldn't accelerate. Got it towed to a different mechanic and that's when I found out it was the timing chain. After doing some research I was getting quotes for $2000-$2500. Finally one place told me to see if there was a recall. I called GMC. They said there is a recall on the timing chain. They connected me with a local GMC dealer who informed me after evaluating my vehicle that it's out of warranty and 5000 miles over the limit. Well I'm still paying for this vehicle and I owe $5000 on it. Clearly I was sold a lemon but what are my options now?.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2019

Takara recall well my truck just stop changing gears on Sunday nite 03/24/19 I was getting off about to drive out of the parking lot when I saw the rpm hand go up but didnt come back down I knew something was wrong then it didn't change at all I drove 20 all way home with my flashers on and almost got ran over.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

Dec 2018 my Acadia was left at the service department of whitmore Chevrolet in west point va 23181 for a diagnosis. My vehicle ran when I left it there. Over a month later including illegal activity in the service department I get my vehicle back and it is dead. I would start my vehicle and drive away sometime stopping soon or randomly on the road. It's done that several times. I have three children too. I need my vehicle looked at and the possible recalls fixed. I am without transportation and it's unbearable. I am a mother of three wonderful sons and we need our vehicle to run please!!!my review is in the pictures as well.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2018

I leased my 2009 GMC Acadia almost 2 years ago, it has been a nightmare. I bought as is so dealer would not return my calls that had anything to do with problems. First, not even 3 weeks after I leased the vehicle the electrical system started to go, my driver window stopped working, my back hatch well I can't even open it because there is no key to open nor is there a button anywhere the mechanics said I need to take it to an electrical mechanic. . . Wonder how much that will cost?, my stabiltrak system constantly flashes. The engine burns up too much oil even after an oil change within 3weeks I need to put oil, I do not drive far nor alot. To work and back. It will cost more to fix this truck than what it is worth now I'm stuck with $5,000 left on a vehicle that is a piece of poop. When I drive the truck pulls as if the engine cannot get the truck going. I can't turn off the truck while putting gas because the vehicle wont turn over once the gas has been put in and started. The mechanic said its the trans evap system. I dont understand how GMC can get away with manufacturing vehicles like this with no concern for the customers.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

The vehicle was stationary, will start but it doesn't recognize that it has or cords aren't connecting and it won't shift into any gear-just makes a clicking sound-shift lever. Lift gate/back hatch won't stay up and keeps falling down. Power/electrical issues involving the transmission was driving, at a red light and the vehicle just stopped working and I couldn't even get it started again. There has been ongoing issues with this vehicle.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

My clock spring broke causing the cruise control to stop, my suspenion on my car is going out at 167,000 miles maling the car ride horribly, and apparently there is a problem with the wave plate in the transmission there have been multiple complaints about this problem but noone wants to do anything I was driving the moments these occured.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. While the vehicle was idling at a stop sign, the engine independently revved and the rpms increased. While the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. When the gear shifter was placed in reverse, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was rebuilt with upgraded parts. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. While driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power and the vehicle was unable to be driven over 40 mph. The stability traction control warning indicator illuminated. The dealer was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. In addition, while driving highway speeds, "engine hot" and "a/c off" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact noticed smoke under the hood. The vehicle was coasted over to the shoulder of the road and turned off. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure and was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the part. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and indicated that they also had campaigns that needed to be addressed. The timing chain needed to be replaced, there was a loss of power steering assist, and the transmission cutlet leave plate failed. There were no recalls. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2015

I took my 09 GMC Acadia to the gm auto to fix the transmission and they told me they can not fix unless I pay the $2043 to fix my power steering, but I believe its all related to that power steering failure that is cover under the gm policy. And its the same problem to all the Acadia that are out there so I suggest the gm to fix all GMC Acadia without any cost to all the owneri if they fix it right we wouldn't complaint at all.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2015

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. While the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to exit the vehicle and it rolled backwards. The contact fell and the vehicle rolled over his body. The contact sustained a fractured tibia, fractured pelvis, punctured lungs, and seven fractured ribs. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v073000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2015

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. While attempting to park, the vehicle rolled forward while in reverse. The contact stated that the vehicle did the same thing while in the drive position. The vehicle would roll backwards with the vehicle in the drive position. The contact had to slam on the brake pedal and engage the emergency brake in order to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the vehicle was working up to specifications. The failure mileage was 100,000.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2015

Vehicle was missing in 3rd and 5th gears. Engine would rev to 5000-6000 rpm's without shifting gears. I would have to ease off the accellerator to get it to shift. Now the next day, when I put it in reverse to back out of the garage it will not go. Engine just revs when I press the accellerator as if I was in neutral.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

We purchased a 2009 Acadia from a reputable dealer that claims quality in regards to their used vehicles. We have had the vehicle for 6 months and the vehicle has left me stranded on different occasions and compromised others individuals and my own well being. First incident the car was in gear but would not start. We never found the reason the vehicle would not start. The battery fully charged. No other issues noted. Second incident the vehicle the vehicle again did not start after several attempts to start. Eventually car just started, no issue was uncovered as the culprit. The vehicle overheated out of the blue while in route to respond to an emergency call and had the water pump replaced. While on the interstate with my 4 month old grandson the vehicle jerked after reaching the speed of approximately 65 mph and then the rpm registered about 3800 to 4500 and the vehicle came to a crawl on the interstate. The check engine light came on and I took it had had diagnostics ran and it indicated transmission concerns. I took the vehicle to the dealer and the light had gone off and the dealer stated that there was nothing found. My husband and I left and while in route to another city the vehicle again jerked at approximately 65 mph and the rpm once again registered between 3500 and 4500. We were able to crawl along at about 25 mph and barely made it safely to a certified GMC dealer which stated that the transmission was completely gone and we needed another and the cost would be approximately $3900. The dealer refuses to honor or stand behind their product. We recently had the vehicle at the dealer to ensure safety recalls were taken care of, the dealer indicating no concerns after a "proposed" inspection. There is clearly documented concerns with this issue. We were lucky as there were no injuries, but the situations that we were left in were extremely dangerous.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I have a 2009 Acadia. It has 79k miles. We are 4 months out of our warranty. I have a broken wave plate. 5k to fix. I've had transmission issues the entire time I've had this auto but all my previous times they couldn't replicate the problem. This time, of course, now that there's complete failure and my warranty has expired, they've told me I need a complete transmission rebuild.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2014

While driving our 2009 Acadia at highway speed (75mph) we experienced a sudden rpm spike and lose of acceleration. Any attempt to apply gas was just met with rpm with no acceleration. As speed slowed the vehicle lurched and the transmission engaged as we approached 40 mph. The vehicle struggled to maintain this speed and would constantly lunge and lurch trying to change gears to adjust for the speed. The timing was not good for this as we are stationed in germany, and we were an hour from home driving on the autobahn. While we were struggling to stay at the minimum speed (roughly 40 mph), other vehicles are approaching us at autobahn speeds, potentially causing an accident. Fortunately, germans are very good drivers and very aware of slower moving vehicles. We were fortunate to have pull off areas to cool the transmission, but our trip took five hours. Apparently this is a known issue with the 6t75 transmissions that gm put in the 2007-2009 Acadia's. No service bulletins or warnings ever went out to me to let me know about this issue. If I would've received one, I would have been able to catch this earlier and been able to save the transmission from catastrophic failure. The 3-5-r wave plate failed preventing shifting to those gears. I believe gm needs to own up to this and either issue a recall or offer owners with less than 100k miles on their vehicles compensation for the repairs. At a minimum, all Acadia/enclave/traverse/outlook owners with 6t75 transmissions need to receive a notification to expect the imminent failure, in order that they may get the 3-5-r wave plate replaced with a properly tempered plate. Gm has already identified the reason for the failure, but has chosen not to act in a manner reflecting integrity to their customers. Thank you for your time.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

The gmac dealer is telling us the our 2009 arcadia has a damaged wave plate and will cost us about $2500 00 -- $3,000. 00 to fix this problem. Our 5 year 100,000 mileage just expired last month. The car was just at the shop for three recalls and oil change. When the problem first happened I informed the dealer and told the problem.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. The contact also stated that shifting was difficult. On one occasion, the contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into reverse and when depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to reverse. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000. Djr.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

While turning left from a stop sign, my 2009 GMC slt had an rpm increase and failed to change into a higher gear. I was almost struck by an oncoming vehicle because my vehicle failed to accelerate. I parked at the post office and when I returned to my vehicle and tried to back out of the parking space my vehicle would not go into reverse. I had to get the vehicle towed to carmax and have it repaired. It is still at carmax and has to have the entire transmission rebuilt. Luckily I have an extended maintenance plan so I only have to pay a deductible intead of the entire amount. I feel that based on the number of same complaints and safety issues that GMC should have to issue a recall to have all the transmissions replaced versus the individual vehicle owners having to pay. If researched it is evident that this is an engineering flaw which started with this transmission in 2007.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I have a 2009 Acadia slt2. I was entering the highway and accelerating when the car would not increase in speed as I was merging onto the highway. I was nearly hit by a semi-tractor trailer truck. The same problem has occurred multiple times after this. I have taken the car in for service and was told by a gm authorized dealer that they could not replicate the issue and they replace a coil. The car still does the same thing intermittently. This car has had other safety issues, like water leaking into the cabin and nearly shocking me while trying to drive.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2014

Vehicle was travelling at 60mph when engine rpms revved excessively high yet vehicle lost power to the wheels. With no acceleration yet engine red lined, attempted to maintain control while braking and pulling to the side of the road. Unable to maintain full control. Vehicle entered non travelled portion of the road (ditch). Issue was later determined to be the reverse wave plate (aka - drive/reverse clutch) requiring complete transmission rebuild.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2014

Driving on the highway through the mountains the vehicle would shift into neutral and lose all power. After doing this several times we exited. The check engine light came on and we did not have reverse and the transmission would only remain in 1st gear. After taking to dealer he new exactly what it was before even looking at the vehicle. . . The shift wave plate for reverse, 1st and 5th gear. If this is such a "known" common problem for this vehicle between 60,000 and 70,000 miles why was there not a recall? losing power on the highway (with my family) 100's of miles from home while driving through the mountains of TN (we live in mi) was very dangerous. Finding out this is a common thing for this vehicle is inexcusable for a manufacturer in this day and age to let go without fixing on affected vehicles before it happens.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

My transmission (wave plate clutch) went out while I was driving. I am registering this because I have come across a forum on edmonds. Com consisting of over 38 pages of customer complaints regarding the 2008 - 2010 Acadia having transmission problems around 75k miles, just outside of warranty. The cost to repair ranges from $2200 to $4500. Someone recently suggested that owners start officially registering our complaints. Gm is aware that faulty transmissions are putting their owners at risk of loss of control of vehicle functions while driving, yet they will not take ownership of the issue.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

I was at a stop light and upon pulling off noticed the vehicle was very slow to accelerate, despite the rpms being very high. Vehicle was towed to the dealer two days later due to a snow storm. They replaced a sensor, and returned the vehicle to me. 3 hours later while driving down i280, the vehicle completely lost acceleration. This was very unsafe, the diagnosis was broken wave plate.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

My wife was driving with children when transmission completely went out. . The car was completely erratic and wife was able to safe area but not without significant risk to family. Only 1 year and a few months later, I'm driving and the transmission started to fail again with family in car. . After reviewing online, this is a blatant recurring themes with Acadias and we have now been at risk twice.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2013

The contact owns a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph the transmission stalled with the illumination of the warning indicator. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000. The VIN was unavailable.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

My wife was driving her 09 Acadia and all of a sudden it quit shifting and the engine revved up if she went over 25 mph. She limped it to a local service station where they informed us that the reverse clutch pressure plate was broken and needed a new transmission. Even though it was within gm's 5yr 100k "powertrain warranty", they "conveniently" excluded that problem from being covered. I have seen many, many complaints regarding this issue and it is bullshit that gm isn't owning up to it and correcting the problem on current vehicles. So, now we are out $3500 for a new transmission on a car with only 75k miles!.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

My 2009 GMC Acadia was purchased in Aug 2009. Aside from routine maintenance, I have already had to replace the water pump, the radiator, & the timing belt (none of which were covered under my warranty) but on September 9, 2013 , my transmission let go. The dealership kept my vehicle for 20 days. Claim they couldn't rebuild it and had to get a new one. (which I have since been told that was a lie, that they have to use factory rebuilt transmissions). Got my vehicle back on sept. 28. On March 22, 2014, I brought it back to dealership because it was showing signs of slipping transmission again. Dealer told me it was fine sent me home. Less than 2 weeks later on April 8, the transmission let go again. No reverse & truck would not move in drive just rev the engine. Back to dealership for "another transmission" this time they had my vehicle for 18 days. I just picked it up 2 days ago. This morning while driving my kids to school, transmission went again! this is unsafe! I am scared to death to drive my kids around in this vehicle! I almost got into an accident this morning because of it! 3 transmissions in 6 months?! this is a red flag don't you think. . How much longer will GMC not value my life or my families?? something needs to be done about this!.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

In 2 years of ownership I have replaced 4 ignition coils and the vehicle now needs yet another. At roughly 85000 miles (and year 5) the transmission wave plate failed. Gm would only authorize a rebuild (last week).

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

Tl- the contact own a 2009 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that she noticed a water leak under the vehicle from an unknown source. The contact also stated that the vehicle would jerk violently at various speeds. Additionally, the power steering assist would sporadically seize accompanied by an abnormal noise when completing a turn. The dealer advised that the water pump and ignition coil would need replacing. An unknown repair was made to the steering component to rectify the failure. On a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service where the dealer advised that the tie rods failed and need replacing. The tie rods were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Kmj.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2011

I took my 2009 Acadia into the GMC dealer with around 65,000 miles on it after buying it used (1 previous owner) with around 42,000 miles. They told me I had a power steering leak in the rack and pinion and it would cost around $2000 to replace a seal because they have to pull the whole rack off. He told me it would be okay for a while, but eventually it would cause the power steering to go out. After researching, I've seen multiple other Acadia owners who have had the exact same problem. I have refused to pay for the repairs because I think this is a safety issue that has effected enough of this model vehicle to warrant a general safety recall. I know of 3 other people in my hometown who have experienced power steering problems with their Acadia's, and the GMC dealership acknowledged to me that it is a significant problem with GMC Acadia model years 2008-2012. If that's not enough, then I'm not sure what is, but if my power steering goes out while I'm driving, well, let this serve as notice to GMC.
