general problems of the 2010 GMC Acadia - part 1

Shift to park issue known recall issue in other GMC Acadias . . . Vehicle will not lock into park and can not remove key anymore electrical still runs in vehicle causing the battery to drain . . . Now have to force vehicle to shift into park as best as possible but still does not fully lock into park gear anymore . . . I was shifting into park.

The contact owned a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, white and black smoke had leaked into the interior cabin through the air vents. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had caught on fire under the hood. The contact pulled over to the side of the road when the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The local fire department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. The source of the fire was unidentified. A police report was filed. The contact sought medical attention for smoke inhalation. The vehicle was towed to a local tow lot via the insurance provider. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The local dealer was not contacted. In addition, the contact related the failure to an unknown NHTSA campaign that was previously repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Timing chain and gears.

Check engine light. Faulty timing chain. Rack and pinion repairs needed. Examined by two automotive locations: lafontaine automotive GMC of ann arbor (michigan) and mazur's total automotive in pinckney, mi.

The car completely stopped while driving. Upon towing it to the shop, they stated the timing chain cause the engine to not work. This is a safety hazard due to anyone could of gotten hurt or this could have cause an accident due to I was not able to steer or do anything.

Timing chain was replaced on 11/26/2019 and failed again on 02/09/2022. Needs to be a manufacturer defect that gets fixed for free. So dangerous.

The manufacturer was not notified. The contact was informed by an independent mechanic that the failure was due to the timing chain and rod bearings. The failure mileage was approximately 133,208.

The contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to idle rapidly and smoke was exiting the hood. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road for approximately an hour before driving to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the timing chain to be replaced along with an oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I purchased this vehicle on June 25 ,2020 and on August 19,2020 it broke down on the expressway while I was transferring from one hospital to another hospital with me I'll 3 year old . I replaced the battery and starter it still would not crank I sent it to Buick GMC in morrow and they told me that the motor was completely gone. I paid my car note up until February 5,2021 and I don't have a vehicle because it needs a new motor.

Car would not start after putting gas in it. We took it to the mechanic that replaced the timing chain and he said the engine went out of timing caused the engine to be out of time, combust, and destroy the engine.

My Acadia is throwing p0008 code. It began having power issues not being able to accelerate and pulling up the smallest hills. All of this started going 70mph down the interstate. Not a good spot or time to decelerate. Also started having a very rough idle. It is at a GMC dealer now and am being told timing chain will have to be replaced. Was told this is a known problem and should report it since it is the same problem on the 2009 and those were covered under warranty }:(.

The contact was able to safely maneuver the vehicle over to the shoulder without power steering or braking ability. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was unknown.

My timing chain was replaced under warranty 4 year and 50,000 miles ago. Now I am having to replace it again. I contact GMC about recall10287 premature chain wear for reprogramming of the engine control module. I was told this does not apply to my year and there was no part listed because it just a general statement. Not sure where to go from here. Here is my case # for GMC 8-4704107640. I am still awaiting the part information from them.

This has happened about ten times now all within the past 3-4 months. I will be driving and go to make a turn and the steering wheel locks up and the engine dies. The brakes still work so I am able to stop the car, turn they key off and restart it. It had happened to me once on the highway and the rest of the times have been stop and go turns in the city but once was while turning left onto on cmong traffic and my car died in the middle of it. I took it to 3 different auto places and all told me they couldn't find the problem. I then researched this and found several other people having this same problem. I contacted them and they set me up with a dealership to get it fixed. GMC said if it was under 150,000 miles they would pay for it and if it was over then I would still qualify for a payment assistance program. However a day after dropping off my car to get fixed the dealership called me and said they don't know how to fix my car and to come get it out of their parking lot. We told GMC about this and they said it's not there problem. I'm at a loss at this point as no one seems to be able to fix the car and it is a death trap for me and my family. I'm also not just going to sell to the car to somebody like the dealership advised me to do because �they wouldn't want their son or daughter driving that thing� (even though they seem perfectly fine to have me drive it off their lot ASAP and not be their problem anymore) because I wouldnt feel right selling a car to someone knowing it could kill them through no fault of their own. I don't know what to do here. The right thing to do would be to put that car in the junkyard and buy a new one but I don't have the cash. Would like somebody to tell me how to fix this.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the service engine soon warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to nye Buick GMC located at 1421 genesee st, oneida, NY 13421, (315) 363-2200, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98000. Ah.

The timing chain needs to be replaced on the 2010, which is the same issue GMC had with the 2009s, however, the 2010 isn't covered, but the 2009 was. I've read that GMC knows that there is an issue, but they just aren't covering it yet.

Timing chain needs to be replaces and isn't covered although it's the same parts as the 2009 model that is covered by the extended warranty. GMC is aware of this ongoing issue and should cover it.

I was driving the car on the highway and smoke started coming out of the engine. Later it was determined that the engined died - there was never ever warning lights or warning that there was trouble with the car. It is a 3. 6l sidi vg engine. It was very unfortunate as we haven't even owned the car for a year before it was completely dead. The cost was way too high too fix so we ended up giving it to a salvage place and bought a 2009 GMC Acadia. Not even a year into that car and it also needs a new engine. Same engine, a 3. 6l sidi v6 engine. Our auto place said they are having a hard time finding that engine because many people need that engine for the exact same problem. Can not be a coincidence. I have contacted GMC and they don't care.

At 60,000. 00 thousand miles my timing chains needed replaced (just like the 2009 which has a recall) then at 79,000 miles my wave plate cracked on my transmission (which there is a recall on the 2009 model for the exact same thing) my car was a early 2010 model and it looks like the 2009 issues are problems on my car. I think it's insane that gm can't stand behind their work better than this. The recall's should cover the 2010 models that were manufactured with 2009 parts!!!.

GMC 2010 Acadia. . 96,000 miles whenengine light with code p0008 indicating stretched timing chains. Mechanic aware of extended warranty on 2007-2009 vehicles. Called GMC, they said 2010 not covered. Same engine as 2009 and not covered. Failed inspection in nh due to code. . . $2300 in repairs needed. Filed complaint with GMC. . . Plan to print extensive complaints found here and heading to dealership where I bought it.

Without any warning, car died while driving. Timing chain apparently stretched after only 39,000 miles. This is the second timing chain I have to replace. GMC has extended the warranty for several models to 120,000 but not my year!.

My wife's GMC Acadia shut down while driving down expressway and lost all power and threw a cel. The diagnosis from the dealer mechanics was a stretched timing chain. I was told this is common and a scheduled maintenance part but nowhere in my manual does it state this. Also I contacted gm corporate to see if I could get help it being a safety issue for the shut down and was told it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. My vehicle has approximately 149,000 miles now I have to pay over $2000 to fix a known issue but the real problem was the unexpected shutdown and loss of control in the middle of rush hour traffic in a rain storm. Fortunately my wife's quick thinking got her to safety but could have been much worse if she would have lost power in the middle of a busy intersection or an on ramp she could have been severely injured. I would like to see these problems resolved.

Have hade it in shop several time but has not been fixed . They keep saying it somethings else ever time. Removed remote started didn't help. Took radio fuse out didn't help . Car will not start when it sits for a day or two something is draining the battery when it sits. An the dealer always say its somethings else its somethings. I'm tired of dealing with these people about my GMC Acadia. . The dvds player went out warranty won't cover it radio won't turn off warranty won't cover it warranty didn't cover removing the remote starter. Will not buy another GMC at all . Would like to know where I can sue the company an GMC warranty place. If anyone can help me please let me know who to contact to sue the company. Ms skeens. Had the problem for a 1 1/2 now.

Just purchased a 2010 GMC Acadia. 130,000 miles and has stretched timing chains. P0008 comes up when attached to reader. Sound like this has been a problem on the 3. 6 motor for years and gm still has not fixed the issues. Thought with the 2010 and newer I would of been safe, guess I should have dug a bit deeper while researching my new purchase.

On 9 Apr 2016 on the way to a church function, our 2010 Acadia told us it was reducing engine power and started missing and smoking a little. Thankfully we were just blocks from the house, so we turned around and limped it home. Later I moved it from the driveway to the street. This time, while still missing, the vehicle put out a dense fog of white smoke that smelled of gasoline. Thankfully no one lite a match. I used my obd ii code reader to get failure codes p0087 and p0089 indicating low fuel rail pressure and injector issues. Subsequent research on-line led me to TSB pip4924d (NHTSA# 100419330). I now am of the opinion that the issue is likely a fuel injector that is stuck open likely due to a fuel injector control line that is shorting to ground due to bad manufacturer design or improper maintenance by dealers fixing other issues. I view this issue as a huge safety problem. I can think of all sorts of scenarios where this could cause danger to the vehicle driver and passengers. A little about me . . . I've been working on cars for the last 48 years and hold a bs in electrical engineering. Anyone is welcome to contact me at 903-457-4582. (unrelated . . . I was also disappointed to learn from one dealer when fixing an a/c issue that my brake booster drum was contaminated with brake fluid due to a bad seal I guess. That fix was costly and likely should have been on the manufacturer also).

The cam shaft engine correlation code indicated stretched timing and chain guides. Extended warrantees up to 10 years and 120,000 miles have been offered for 2007 and 2009 GMC Acadias with the same problem. To date they have not been offered for the 2010 model even though it's the same issue.

Just bought my arcadia July 2015 back in December the engine came on had it checked out and error code p00008 was detected GMC doesn't have a recall on this it obvious that this problem isn't resolved I'm paying $16000 for a vehicle that I have to invest more into money into that I haven't even a year yet every where I look about details about this problem I keep finding the same answers it would be great if they would fix this problem because I really like my vehicle but I will not invest $3000 + in a vehicle that I still owe on and it's the manufacturer liability to replace!!!.

Timing chain failure on the engine around 84,000 miles. Dealer and gm recommended a full engine replacement (initially, all costs to replace on me). Replacement engine (rebuild/ re manufacture) was then recalled in April 2016 for faulty piston rings. This engine was replaced at no cost. Please investigate this engine / model years!.

Timing chain issues. I am about to pay $2500. 00 to replace the timing chains. I keep reading that the problem was solved, but since so many people are still having to problem, I guess they haven't fixed the problem.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that his wife parked the vehicle, turned the engine off and pulled out the key but the engine continued to run. The contact was called to the scene. The contact stated that he cut the engine off by unhooking the battery cable. After ten minutes, he reconnected the battery and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The contact managed to drive home. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to a local dealer who diagnosed a faulty ignition switch that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled for the repair. The failure mileage was 88,000. Fe.

Stretched timing chain.

The contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. While driving 45 mph, the throttle malfunctioned and the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning on more than one occasion. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated to 95 mph. The contact was able to slow the vehicle down by depressing the brake pedal with both feet. Bessette motors in carrington, north dakota was made aware of the failure and replaced the throttle body, but the failure recurred. In addition, the pedal positioning sensor was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The VIN was not available.

Dealership repaired with gm paying half. This should be a recall due to the fact my car was manufactured in 2009 and should fall under the above mentioned recall as the failure is for the same reason.

Most of the Acadia's 2007-2012 are affected by the timing chain being lose and gm has acknowledged this and extended the warranty. However, for some reason mine is not covered but is having this problem. Now I am $3600 out of pocket for the repair.
