After start up (while driving or with vehicle at rest) service airbag notification pops up and remains on dash center notification area along with airbag system light on dash. Dealer wants over $1,000 to repair something that should be covered under recall or warranty special coverage. This type of very common occurrence shouldn't be limited by a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Owners manual states that air bag may not deploy. Gm customer service number claims that the system fault will not prevent air bag deployment, but I wouldn't trust that girl on the phone to be able to change her own wiper blades, let alone explain the functionality of the airbag system. GMC needs to issue a recall for this problem that people are having at alarming rates with their 2014 GMC Acadias. This is not limited only to the 2013 and older GMC Acadias.
I purchased this vehicle used in April 2017, but a few months after I purchased the vehicle I started having a light on in the dash saying "service air bag". I've tried ignoring it & hoping that there would eventually be a recall because the vehicle no longer had a warranty, but we are about to take it in to get it serviced. After searching the internet I am finding that many other people with Acadias have had this same issue & have had to take their vehicle & pay to get it serviced. I've also read where there were some accidents where the airbags did not deploy. I have researched only to find out that many GMC models were recalled for the same issue, but it was for year models previous to mine (including but not limited to the year before mine). I have a friend who has the Chevrolet traverse (which is the exact same vehicle as mine, just with the Chevrolet name) & she had the exact same problem that I'm having. Is this not a safety issue? please research this. It is not coincidence that so many people have had this problem! this light comes on at all times as soon as you turn on the car. I have read where some have had faulty wiring under the seat that had to be re-soldered.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. While the cruise control was set at 53 mph, another vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into the driver's door of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained a fractured rib, a bruised heart, left thigh, and hips, a broken left arm, and cuts and lacerations from the glass injuries. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
I was hit by a Ford f-150 that was going approx. 55 mph. It hit me on my rear driver's side directly by the back door and gas tank. I was the only passenger in the vehicle. None of the airbags deployed even though my Acadia was spun and the driver's side door was impacted by the passenger's side door causing it to be unusable and unable to open. My head hit and shoulder the driver's side window and hip and left leg hit the driver's side door leaving pulled muscles and bruises and a slight concussion. Esis/gm told me that gm would is not responsible for the airbags not deploying due to "being hit incorrectly by the other vehicle".
