Air conditioning issue: within the first 5,000 miles, the rear air conditioning blower began to make unusual squeaking / vibrating noises. This continued intermittently for the until ultimately the entire car air conditioning system failed at 45,000 miles. The issue was brought to the attention of the certified GMC certified service center at 11 months of ownership/10,000 miles and 27 months of ownership/29,000 miles; they were unable to replicate the issue. At the 27 month visit the GMC certified service center (central Buick GMC of norwood) asserted this would be covered if the part subsequently failed. Upon failure, that service center refused to honor that commitment. Per gm service bulletin 16-na-046, the blower motor may emit brush dust that contains some copper particles. These particles could lead to accelerated corrosion to the auxiliary evaporator and a small refrigerant leak, which ultimately leads to failure of the air conditioning system. However, the GMC certified service center asserted that the failure of the system related solely to the failure of the rear auxiliary unit and entirely unrelated to any issues from that may have existed within the blower in contradiction to the service bulletin.
This could have been resolved under warranty, because at the time I had less than 36,000 miles but the car was at 38 months when the air conditioner went out and blowing warm air when the summer time temps were in the 90s. I took it to my GMC service dept and was told the evaporator needed to be replaced. The problem was it is a labor intensive repair that requires removal of the dashboard to get to the evaporator. $1500 later I now have cool air in the car I paid $40,000 for. After the fact I decided to search the web to see if this was a common problem, and it was. Barely 3 years old and the air conditioner needs major repair?? GMC should be ashamed of themselves! I have a 13 year old chevy trailblazer with 168,000 miles and the ac works as good as the day I bought it. So, is this the new normal for gm? not good enough that cars today cost what you could buy a house for not long ago. Now they build them to self destruct one system at a time to keep the profits rolling in.
Air conditioner dont work right need to charge it every year. There is a leak in the system somewhere. Been a issue ever since I owe it and there is only 56,000 miles on this vechical.
