36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

The vehicle recently began displaying a warning stating the vehicle is not in park although the vehicle has shift in park. The car is not recognizing that the shifter is in the park position and will not allow the vehicle to turn off. This seems to be a common problem for this year and model.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

When I place car into park I get "shift to park "message . . . . I am unable to turn off or leave my vehicle . . . . I am worried that as this problem has increased over the past 3 months that I will be stuck on the road or elsewhere . . . . The dealers say they are aware of the issue but no permanent fix or recall has been issued by GMC . . . . I understand that other owners have the same problem . . . . Also with different years not just 2017 . . . . Please help me with this problem as I always travel alone & am afraid of something terrible happening while on the road . . . . Thank you in advance . . . . Laura schwalbe . . . . Laroc325@aol. Com.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2022

Side detection modules swollen causing failure, repair $735. 97.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

I don’t know what is going on with it. I have had it in and out of the shop. My car will randomly throw the parking break on and completely lock my car up. There is no reason why it should be on. The dealership thought it could be the systems needing a update but that didn’t fix it. It’s a real big safety issue and needs to be looked into. It just did it to me crossing over rail road tracks and I couldn’t go anywhere until it decided to unlock.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

When vehicle trying to shift vehicle into park error message occurs stating 'shift to park' prior to being able to turn off vehicle. Happens multiple times with same error message even when you believe you have the car in park it's difficult to believe that or take the risk of it not being in park and an accident happening.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2022

Shift to park. Vehicle does not turn off completely after pressing the stop button, while parked. The car horn alarms you the vehicle is not shut down. The vehicle will not allow you to lock the doors with the remote control.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2022

The "shift into park" when car is in park. U have to click the gear shifter several times for ut to turn off. Sometimes even having to put the car back into gear putting it back into park and the error will come up again. By clicking the gear shifter will shut it off. Sometimes this could take 2 minutes playing around with it sometimes 10 minutes sometimes it doesn't do it at all. I finally replaced the entire gear shifter mechanism by taking the center council apart. Labor price was unreal. Part price wasn't bad.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2021

Transmission gear shifter displays shift to park error message, so that I can't turn off the vehicle. Vehicle stays active when you try to get out and won't lock.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2021

Previous complaint of shift to park on 06/13/19 voq 11219862 at mileage 36270. On 12/5/21, approx miles 62099 same problem with shift to park. Was scheduled for service on 12/06/21 at adams Buick GMC in richmond, ky and mentioned the problem and previous complaint. Was told that it had been over a year ago but that they could fix it and charge me $152 for part & $315 for labor. It was less that 26000 miles driven since the last issue. After last complaint, the dealer contacted GMC and the part was replaced at no cost under bulletin for concern # 5 145420 and they replaced the transmission control assembly. This is an ongoing problem with GMC and I don't think that every 26000 miles I should have to pay to replace the same part when GMC knows it is a problem by the numerous complaints. In fact while I was getting my vehicle serviced, I spoke to another lady there who had the same problem with her vehicle. Had I not caught the message, I probably would have had to replace my battery or my vehicle could have rolled into the house. There were no warning lamps or messages prior. GMC needs to step up to the plate and issue a recall because they have numerous vehicles with the same problem. My vehicle has undergone this malfunction twice and I find it unacceptable and know that I can't afford to pay $467 every 26000 miles for an issue that GMC is clearly aware of but won't address because no one has been killed by the issue as of this date to my knowledge, but it's going to happen sooner or later if the issue is not addressed properly.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

Vehicle is a 2017 Acadia denali with ~39,000 miles. The problem started without any symptoms or warnings in October 2021. The dash gives a "shift to park" message when the shift is moved to the park position and the driver attempts (to turn all systems off so as) to park and exit the vehicle. When the off button is pushed, the "shift to park" message displays. The engine does turn off, but the lighting, radio, etc. Stay on. When opening the door, the vehicle emits tone(s) suggesting the driver is trying to leave the vehicle while it's running and/or has left electrical systems on. Driver is actually attempting to simply turn everything off and park the vehicle. The fact that all the lighting and radio stay on runs down the battery, potentially leaving the driver stranded.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2021

Shift to park error code along with several other error codes including no remote detected that have continually and intermittentantly appeared since my car was at 16 k miles. My car has been in the shop over 10 times and these problems continue to return. My car won't shut off correctly, and this drains the battery. On 2 different occasions I was locked inside my car, unable to start it. Both of those times the outside temperature was over 100 degrees, and I almost had to break my window to exit and survive. I frantically pushed several buttons, trying to start the car, and luckily something tripped so I could open my car. The dealership replaced my battery twice before 31 k miles. They have replaced 2 different fobs when the car didn't recognize them. The dealership has replaced the transmission control assembly, the body control module, the fuel injector, the immobolizer control module, the brake control module, and my car has currently been in the shop for over 3 weeks as they may also need to replace the instrument control module and hvac module due to those error codes. My car is at 46 k miles and has been in the shop 3 different times since 39 k (less than 10 k miles) all for similar problems. Thankfully I bought the extended warranty that will expire in 2 years. Something is draining the battery and GMC cannot or will not address the problem. There are similar documented cases: https://lemonlawexperts. Com/gm-shift-to-park-recall-update/#:~:text=according%20to%20nhtsa%2c%20gm%20has,several%20model%20year%20acadia%20vehicles. And https://gmauthority. Com/blog/2020/05/GMC-acadia-shift-to-park-class-action-lawsuit-filed-in-texas/ please help to make GMC resolve this complicated problem! I now keep a tool in my car to break a window if I ever get locked in. I also keep my aaa membership active as I have had to get my car jumped several times. I do have videos of the problem, but cannot send a mp4 file.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2021

Shift to park light came on when I parked. As I parked, the break pad locked and I could not release it. The shifter locked and I could not release it. It would not let me turn vehicle off. I had to experiment on how to get error message to stop and breaks to unlock so I did result to jiggling the shifter and put car in reverse then in drive and park again and trying to turn off (after doing this atleast 4 times) eventually it unlocked and let me turn car off without getting this error message. This happened 2 years prior and I had my 1 yr old in car with me panicking bc I couldn’t drive my car for a bit until the mechanism decided to start working again. This time I knew how to fix it better bc it had happened 2 yrs prior so I knew to wiggle the shifter and try to put it back in drive etc to eventually get car to shut off. There’s records of this shift to park being fixed in 2019 and again in 2021. I should not be responsible for paying anything for these issues. It is a GMC malfunction. Although mechanical it is a safety concern of mine too!.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2021

Vehicle was purchased used in June 2020 issue #1 after shifting car into park, display will indicate p for park , but also says vehicle is not in park. Since you are not sure if it actually in park and to eliminate this display, you need to restart the vehicle, go thru the gears again and then back into park. This happens several times a week with having to restart and park again up to 10 times before the vehicle will register it is in park. I have read there is a technical service bulletin on this issue as well as a case to get GMC to issue a recall. This is a serious issue because you are unaware if the vehicle transmission is actually in park. Having to restart and continually shift to park is time consuming and quite frankly a nuisance. At this point in time, the only way of correction, other than restarting up to ten times, is to click the gear shift several times after placing in park. This will work 5/10 times. Issue #2 - vehicle does not always detect remote. Have replaced battery in remote 5 times and will last approximately 8-10 weeks. At times, when the vehicle has been driven and is placed into park, the display will read no remote detected. Have also placed remote into pocket into console and will still receive the same no remote detected. Although there is never any indication battery is low or dead on remote, this is also the only possible correction we have found. However, we do believe there must be another correction for this issue.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2021

This vehicle has twice had parts replaced for the "shift to park" issue detailed in gm TSB 19-na-206. The first incident was in April 2019, and it was repaired under warranty at about 24,800 miles. The second incident was this past week at about 50,800 miles, and this repair cost almost $800 to fix. I contacted gm customer support and was told that I could not get any reimbursement because there was no special coverage or recall for this known problem. This is completely unacceptable, since the problem is clearly a defect in parts manufacturing or assembly, and it renders the vehicle completely unusable since it is impossible to turn the car off when the car does not recognize that the shifter is in park. This is a safety issue because the driver needs to be certain whether or not the vehicle is securely parked before leaving the vehicle.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2021

Shortly after I purchased my Acadia in may of 2018, it started displaying a shift to park warning when I would put the car in park. I contacted the dealership and they said it was a known issue and they had to replace the shift assembly. Well about 3 weeks ago it started doing it again. Only this time it's worse. It takes several tries and tricks to get the car to recognize it's in park and allow me to shut the car off - when the warning pops up it won't allow the car to power off so all the electronics stay on. I called the dealership and they told me because my extended warranty expired at 79,000 miles and they had already replaced the shift assembly once that there is nothing they can do and I will have to pay out of pocket for this repair even though it's a well documented issue with these vehicles.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

The vehicle gives a shift to park warning on dashboard after vehicle ignition button. This warning shows up every time the vehicle is accepted to shut off. It takes several minutes and tries to get the message to go away and the vehicle to completely shut off. The only successful way of getting the message and vehicle to completely shut off is by wiggling or shaking the gear shifter until it goes away. I have been stranded with children in the vehicle for concerns that the vehicle will roll with the vehicle not registering that it is in park. After researching the vehicle issue further it has been found that other owners with the same year and model have had the same shift to park message and have had their vehicle roll on it's own. The vehicle has gone to the dealership to be fixed but unfortunately because my warranty has expired I am being held responsible for paying to fix this safety issue.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2021

When the car is shifted into park, the dashboard shows a warning that the car is not in park. If I leave the car like that, all the electrical stuff stays on. My husband was at a gas station, and pumping gas is not safe with the car not shutting off. Also I am concerned if the vehicle will be able to roll. My niece also has an Acadia, and 3 young sons all still in car seats, so she has to use the 3rd row seat, so getting her sons out of a vehicle is not a quick chore. If the car will not shut off and go into park and can roll, it would be a disaster if her children were still in the vehicle still strapped into their seats.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while placing the vehicle in park, an error message and warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the message shift to park was displayed while attempting to start or turn off the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to Buick GMC of mahwah (386 NJ-17, mahwah, NJ 07430) where the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

It says to put in park when the vehicle is in park mode and the engine won't turn off.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

The issue involved the car failing to recognize it is in park and will not shut off while also rolling. The issue first came up in November of 2018 and GMC replaced the shifter assembly under warranty. It has has reappeared as of October 2020 but there is no recall or other means to fix it and it presents a hazard given the car transports our 3 year old son.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

When the vehicle is shifted into park to turn off the engine the sensor shows it is not in park and will not let you turn the engine off.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

My 2017 GMC Acadia shut off lost all power for a couple mins at a busy intersection in September 2020. All power restore after several minutes and attempts to restart. I took in to the dealership however they could not duplicate. Now on the 28th of December 2020, the vehicle lost all power again at the same busy intersection! no power at all! could not even turn my hazard lights on to warn traffic that was coming up behind me on the highway! the vehicle remained like this for 10-15 minutes! couldn't even have anyone push it off the road because we couldn't shift it to neutral either. I took it back to the dealership as gm advised and they still could not duplicate. The dealership tried but cannot make sense of why this keeps occurring randomly. I had my small children in the car this time and we are lucky we did not get rear ended! I fear that my family is not safe in this vehicle.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

While driving in the rain on a highway, I experienced the blind side detection warning . The system shut itself down and no longer gave any side detection at all. After contacting GMC, they said there were no recalls on the vehicle. I saw a service bulletin online, n172097060, but they said my vehicle was not included.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after shifting to the park position and attempting to turn the vehicle off, the engine shut off but the headlights and dashboard lights remained illuminated. Also, on multiple occasions, the battery had drained and the vehicle had to be jump-started. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the floor shifter harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. The floor shifter harness was replaced and the failure was remedied, but approximately two years later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer. The contact was informed of the manufacturer's TSB to repair the failure and a new and improved floor shifter harness was installed which corrected the failure. The contact indicated that the manufacturer was aware of the faulty harness but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 45,000.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

After shifting to park the vehicle will continuously state "shift to park" and will not allow the driver to turn the vehicle completely off or lock the doors.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2020

This issue has happened to me atleast 4 times in the last 8 months . I will go to start my car and it will show no remote access then completely shut off or drain the battery . I ha w had to have my car towed 3 times and then one time after 45 minutes it just turned on . This is only a 2017 acdua abs I have only had it a year and a half . It's had leaking heater fluid issues as well .

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2020

1 month ago received "shift to park" notices that would not allow the vehicle to be powered off. Would restart engine, move shifting lever multiple times, and eventually would allow vehicle to be powered off (electrically). Took to dealership and they replaced the shifting lever, reporting the issue was fixed. Two days ago, when parking, the engine shut off, but again received the shift to park notice, with electrical system still on. This time, took my foot off the brake and the car started rolling backwards. Could not restart engine, and shifting lever was stuck in place. Had to set the parking break and wait for a tow truck. Electrical system remained on the entire time. Fortunately this occurred in my driveway and not somewhere where I would have bee stranded.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The 2017 GMC Acadia I own will not recognize when the vehicle is in park. It states to move to park to shut the vehicle off when the vehicle is already in park. This happens when trying to shut off the vehicle but I am unable to because of the "shift to park" warning. I have to push the stick forward and turn the car on and off several times for the message to disappear. Had this fixed by GMC but they refused to cover under powertrain warranty.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2020

Vehicle frequently shows the error "shift to park" when I attempt to turn off the car after it is placed in park - which is confirmable via the instrument panel. The vehicle electronics will not turn off until the error is cleared. At times I cannot clear the error and I've had to set my parking brake and leave the car electronics running while I go into a store, which leaves car unsecured and drains the battery. The car has gone into my local GMC dealer for repairs. The first time I took it in (August 2020), I was 365 miles outside my warranty and GMC refused to pay for the repairs. The dealership felt certain a recall would be issued and suggested I have harness switched which they admitted was a band-aid fix and that it wouldn't fix the issue, but it would allow a period where the error disappears (which it did) - until a recall is issued. The shift to park error reappeared about 1. 5 years later. I took my Acadia back to the dealership and was told they could not replicate the error and therefore there was nothing they could about it. The error is happening much more often and I've scheduled another repair appointment to address the problem.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

The vehicle does not recognize when it is in park. Sporadically vehicle will not go into park and thus can't leave vehicle. Safety concern! I understand this is a known issue.

66 Electrical System problem

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2020

Although in park, the dash alerts the following message : shift to park this alert does not allow the vehicle to be shut off fully as the radio still plays, lights remain in and the dash remains lit. Have tried to restart and shift into different gears then return to park as well as engage the emergency break. Nothing works to fix this.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

steering assist reduced drive with care warning light shows up at least once a month. The air conditioner and temperature gauge do not work when this is on. We had it checked and there was zero freon in it. Had that refilled totaling over $400 because it's a special kind that takes the 1234 hook up. Steering assist reduced drive with care warning light came on again like it does every month. Husband popped the hood to take a look and it appears freon has spewed while steering assist light is on, explaining why it was empty when we took it to be checked. The check engine light is also on now too. When powering vehicle off, a message on the screen says climate control not available when vehicle is powered off. Additionally we get a shift to park message when we power off the vehicle. Ready to seek legal action.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

When you put the car in park it often won’t recognize it and will display a message on the console stating “shift to park”. When it does this you’re not able to turn your car completely off so you just have to continue messing around with the shifter or turning the car back on again by pressing the break until it finally goes off. This happens at least once daily and can take upwards of 5 minutes sometimes to finally recognize the car is in park so you can turn the car off. We’ve tried leaving the car running before when this message is displayed when it’s been parked in our garage thinking it would eventually realize it’s in park and shutoff but after 10 minutes of running it still hadn’t recognized it was in park. We called our dealership about this and they told us that they get a lot of complaints about this issue.

70 Electrical System problem
