GMC Acadia owners have reported 11 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Acadia based on all problems reported for the Acadia.
On [xxx] my 2017 Acadia denali started driving poorly and a steering assist reduced message appeared. I had o'reilly scan for error messages and they were: p0128 and p0826-00. The dealership confirmed that they would need to replace the thermostat. The Buick GMC beaverton technician made a video of my vehicle: [xxx] my safety was put at risk due to the risk of my steering going out. My car intermittently was having trouble engaging in driving (it randomly acted like it was not firing, it was "jerking"), I heard my cooling fan come on immediately the next day when started my car to drive it to the GMC dealership. I feared that my car would just die going over a mountain pass without cell coverage. On [xxx] I had the same steering assist reduced message and then replaced my thermostat at 39,228 miles. I will need to replace this again, 37,638 miles later. The GMC service technician mentioned that this is a typical problem for my car, and I have discovered a 2022 Acadia recall for their thermostats. Please extend this recall to include the 2017 Acadia. The component was not inspected by the police or insurance rep (yet), but it was inspected by the GMC dealership and o'reilly veri scan. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I'd like to report a safety issue related to the frequency of the adaptive cruise control system on my 2024 GMC Acadia. In multiple instances while traveling at highway speeds (55+ mph), the system will brake heavily when no vehicle or impediment is in visible range. This failure can cause safety issues due to sudden braking at highway speeds potentially leading to traffic accidents and/or fatalities. This failure has happened multiple times, but most recently on 7/21/25, 7/25/25, 10/9/25, 10/21/25, 10/22/25, and 10/23/25. The vehicle was taken a gm dealer on 8/1/25, 8/15/25, and 8/26/25 and they dealership failed to diagnose the problem or indicated all systems were working as intended. The vehicle does not provide any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem.

Approximately July 12 2025 while driving to dinner two warnings showed on the driver information cluster (1) check brake assist (2) check esc. Took vehicle to dealer the next business day for diagnosis. Service department stated the problem was the ebcm or electronic brake control module and the parts are on a nationwide backorder. Since the part failure all brake system associated lights on the gauge cluster are illuminated and non of the associated safety systems are functional including but not limited to abs, stabilitrak, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, crash avoidance or standard cruise control.

At approximately 4900 miles, the brake master cylinder failed on my vehicle. It has been at the dealership for over a month awaiting parts for repair.
After having my 2025 GMC Acadia elevation for 2 weeks, I turned it on and six lights on the dash lit up. Esc, abs, tractions control and more. I was leaving a store at the time this happened and drove home. Also, my cruise control would no longer work. Took my Acadia to the dealership the following business day to be serviced, only to be told a week later that the master brake cylinder needed replaced. This part of course was on back order. My new part arrived two weeks later, only to discover that two additional one-time parts (seal and reservoir) are now needed. These parts are also on back order with an estimated ship date of mid to late July.
While using the super cruise system I am experiencing unexpected braking of the car as it thinks it is about to rear end the vehicle in the right lane it is passing in the left lane. This happened multiple times on a recent highway drive. I am worried I am going to be rear ended by cars following me or the victim of road rage as it appears to other drivers I am brake checking them while in the passing lane. Additionally the adaptive cruise control and super cruise seem to fail to detect the vehicle immediately in front of me and fails to slow down with adaptive cruise control or attempt to change lanes when using super cruise. In both instances I have to manually brake and or change lanes to avoid a rear end collision. While manually driving the vehicle I am also receiving collision alerts when overtaking cars in the right lane while I am passing them in the left. The super cruise was able to identify cars entering the highway from on ramps multiple times and would auto lane change correctly. This leads me to believe the sensors are working but software may not be utilizing correct distance analysis when slamming on brakes as it passes a vehicle. I am scheduling a dealer service call, but feel like they will tell me there are no computer errors. There are no recalls on file. The on-star monitoring is reporting no errors. Seems like a design flaw, logic error that will require a software update.
On 9/24/23, I was driving both locally & the highway in s. I. , NY. Suddenly the adaptive cruise control feature shut off & on repeatedly & kept flashing (adaptive cruise control unavailable) almost causing an accident, then I pulled over and shut off the system. The next day on (9/25/23) I brought the car to GMC & Buick dealership at 1855 hylan blvd, s. I. N. Y. 10306. After a couple of hours, the manager carlos mercado tells me they need to do further testing tells me to come back on 10/04/23. I arrive at 9:00am for my appt. After three hours, I asked him what’s going on? he tells me that there are two modular’s in the vehicle & needs to be reprogramed & updated. He says the mechanic that was working on it can’t do it & to come back. I knew at that point I was being scammed. On 10/11/23 at 10:15am he comes & tells me the vehicle is ready. I go to the register tells me at first was $671. 00. I said for what? it’s outrageous! he says OH it’s electrical. I asked him did you replace any parts? he says no. Replace any wires? he says no. I said if this was a recall I wouldn’t pay for it because its a safety issue. So he must have felt guilty and says I give you a discount & the price now is $555. 56. So I says to him this is a lot of money for this. He tells me it was labor. I said to him I have been watching the whole time that the vehicle would sometimes be in the service area & the parking lot with the mechanic hardly working on it. I said to him do you think I’m a fool because I’m a woman unaccompanied by a man you take advantage of me. So they would not release the car unless I pay for it which I did with a credit card. On 10/12/23, I filed a complained with gm for a full refund, and explained that the program was faulty & only need an update and I was contacted by charlie from the executive team on 10/17/23. Tells me he will reach out to the dealer. On 10/23/23 he tells me they can only offer $250 in reward points which I declined, because they know I wont use it.

While driving and accelerating multiple light pop up on the dash and car decelerates. The check engine light, parking brake, car stability comes on. The engine shifts down and doesn’t drive correctly. This happened 3 times while driving on the interstate doing the speed limit 55-70mph.
Twice this vehicle has exhibited this behavior. The collision avoidance system would flash a red warning on the hud showing that a pedestrian was in front of the vehicle with the vehicle brakes 'hard' engaging causing the vehicle to 'nose dive' even though there was no pedestrian in front of the vehicle. This is disconcerting to those inside the vehicle and potentially be a crash issue with any vehicle following to close behind my Acadia. This may be an issue with the sensors/software used by gm and thus a safety issue that should be reviewed.

The sunroof has leaked into my passanger floor making my car battery full of water legit my whole battery is under water! this is the second time the sunroof has leaked ! I still don’t understand why they would put a battery behind my passanger seat infront of the back seat on the floor this is very dangerous. Second I still have no clue why this car has no recalls because if you look this car up it has so many problems it’s a lemon car for sure I had to put a catalytic converters in my car three times the same one three times and then the last time I changed all three of them when only one needed to be changed! I have cruise control stable track and wheel speed sensors lights on my car that I have changed everything possible to fix the light won’t come of I changed all the wheel speed sensors and the light with still not come off the dash I’m still very confused on to why there are no recalls on this vechile all these problems I’m telling your are all on google that this same SUV other people have have the same issues I’m having.

The car needs an pcm upgrade because it’s lit up a code in randomly situation. Causing the vehicle to lose the water temperature gage, power steering wheel assistance reduced and ac stop working, GMC is aware of the problem even issued a technical bulletin in 2018, but instead of inform the clients about the defective part, they want the client with this problem to pay to upgrade a defective pcm that came out from factory with problem. Note the power steering wheel assistance is part of the safety of the car. The problem always existed in the car, it toke me 2 years to find the problem.
