GMC Acadia owners have reported 4 problems related to brake drum wheel cylinder (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Acadia based on all problems reported for the Acadia.
As car was accelerating to 30 mph in a lane of traffic into a turn, I heard a loud noise. Then, I couldn't move the steering wheel. I tried to pump the brakes, but the car did not stop immediately. I had no control over the steering, and the car eventually stopped in a parking lot. I was petrified. The radio was still on, and the key was still in the on position, but the key could not be turned. GMC simi valley says the problem was a rod to a cylinder that snapped, and was not due to an ignition problem, or related to a current recall. The whole engine needs to be replaced, almost the value of the car, given its current resale value. I would like to request an investigation into another recall event.

Driving at slow speed and warning light came on that needed to service brakes. I took it to the local john elway chevy dealership for service right of way. They came back that the master brake cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced. I am 63, probably have had over 15 brands of cars that I drive to at least 125,000 miles and never replaced a master brake cylinder. I went on edmunds. Com online and read multiple complaints from other Acadia owners with even newer models with same problem. I called gm and asked for them to pay for repair, they refused. The mechanic showed me where the master brake cylinder was leaking. He indicated that it is glued together.

1. While traveling on an interstate highway, the vehicle's "stabilitrak" control abruptly shut down, and the brakes locked with light depressions of the pedal. (stabilitrak controls the vehicle's traction control, anti-lock brakes, and roll-prevention program. ) 2. The failure has occurred approximately 5 times; on one occasion, the engine stalled in addition to the above. Consequences were as described above. 3. The vehicle was taken on an urgent basis to the GMC dealer the following day. The dealer advised that the problem is due to "play in the camshaft," which sends an erroneous signal to the stabilitrak, causing it to shut down. The dealer advised that repair will require replacement of cylinder heads and other equipment, which is a draconian procedure which will take a week or more. In addition, the dealer advised that the problem is causing permanently damage to the vehicle's drivetrain which worsens with miles driven. The dealer further advised that repair parts would not be available for at least 8 weeks because the problem is widespread in the vehicle line and gm refuses to manufacture parts in sufficient quantities to meet the national demand. Almost 8 weeks after reporting the problem, the problem remains unrepaired, and gm has refused one written request and one written demand for immediate correction of the problem, despite this being an immediate threat to occupant safety in that it shuts down the vehicle's most important electronic safety components, including traction control, anti-lock brakes, and the anti-roll-over program.
03/01/2008 - 16,000 I wasn't able to steer, power steering is completely out on the middle of the road
12/01/2008 - 32,000 - misfire in the 2 engine cylinders and was making lot of noise, dealer took 5 weeks to fix the problem
06/01/2009 - 41,000 issue with the engine making noise at start, had to make multiple trips to the dealer
06/01/2011 - 66,000 water pump leaking
03/01/2012 - 72,000 brake control failure
06/29/2012 - 76,000 broken wave plates, evaporater solenoid, and transmission failure
most of these issues are very common in this model, GMC need to recall and fix once for all rather than waiting on the issue to happen on each vehicle.
