The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that upon closing the vehicle rear hatch door the ball joint on the drivers side broke which had caused the bar holding the hatch to scrape some of the tint off of the windshield. The contact stated that they had managed to stop the hatch from having fully closed as this would have caused the windshield to brake, and the hatch has not been opened since the incident occurred as this could cause further damage to the windshield. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
