Seat Belt Problems of GMC Acadia - part 1

While driving under normal conditions, the vehicle experienced a sudden, violent deceleration. The emergency braking and collision avoidance systems activated spontaneously, as if the vehicle had struck or was about to strike an object. There was no obstacle, impact, or external threat present. This uncommanded braking caused significant physical stress and injury to the occupants. Critically, multiple safety systems failed during the event: the seat belts did not lock, failing to restrain the occupants; the airbags did not deploy, despite the severity of the deceleration; no warning indicators or diagnostic alerts were present before or after the incident. These failures directly contributed to physical injuries, including tbi (concussion, spinal trauma, etc. ) which required emergency medical treatment and ongoing care.

Seatbelt buckles are defective. Unable to latch properly in first 2 rows. In 3 led row seatbelt is also defective. Somehow my daughter got tangled in seatbelt and could not breathe, I was forced to cut seatbelt with scissors. Always had seatbelt problems since purchase. However due to the trauma my daughter faced I am very concerned.

When the vehicle is cold in the winter it is very hard to push in and latch the driver seat belt. I have complained to the dealer and they have told me that there is no factory approved method to lubricate it. They suggested that I try spraying some wd-40 in it, but they are not allowed to. My vehicle is not under bumper-to-bumper warranty anymore, but I do have a GMC extended warrantee that is stating that it is not covered. I am not aware of anything ever spilling inside of it (if that did happen, it would not work fine in warm weather). Since this is a safety issue I want to ensure it is properly reported and possibly I can get assistance with GMC fixing this issue with my vehicle. I started noticing the issue in winter of 2023 and it was worse this winter (2024).

Was in a car accident in my Acadia. Someone hit me going 55 miles an hour on my front passenger side. My airbag never deployed and my seat belt did not lock causing me to fly around. I didn’t see a recall for either of those things.

Service safety restraint system notice comes on constantly and disappears at random times.

The seatbelt alarm system does not work and the seatbelt sign does not work.

My grandson used the safety restraint in the middle second row seat. He pulled the belt out to put it on and it would not retract. I have taken it to the dealership to have it fixed but there is a fee of $515 to fix it. I do not feel I should have to pay the since it seems to be an ongoing problem with the Acadia model. I purchased a 2018 model before this one and the same thing happened with the middle safety restraint in the second row seat. I have contacted gm and they informed me there is nothing they can do to waive the fee of fixing this defect.

Not sure but the ex owner of the vehicle told me the it had a recall on the drivers seatbelt (wasn’t due to a car accident).

2011 GMC Acadia slt gear shift does not lock causing it to slip into neutral with slightest bump of shifter or sudden hard breaking also passenger seat belt does not. Lock at all when breaking and driver side seat belt never unlocks there are safty recalls on these issues for this model but. Says mine has zero unfixed recall also defrosting and mirror defrost does not work properly causing me to have very bad visibility I had a close call when driving in houston a week ago when I had to slam breaks due to a crazy driver who did not see me. And cut me off the lane my gear shifted into neutral causing me to not be able to accelerate after breaking to avoid the next speeding car fortunately I was lucky and was able to quickly shift back into drive and go there are electrical issues as well and there has only been one other owner and well maintained so I don't know what to do next my passenger nearly hit dash during this that's when I realized passenger seat belt does not lock.

I was tboned January 9, 2023 the side impact airbags didn't deploy nor does it seem the seatbelts engaged. There were 2 side impacts to the passengers side zero airbags deployed. It was part of a recall and recall work had been completed almost immediately in 2014 (gm website screenshots attached for your easy reference for the 2 recalls showing completed). Yet, they still failed! no indication they had an issue nor would fail when needed as they did. The driver of the other vehicle was seemingly going a high rate of speed when she failed to stop for the red light her direction and tboned me as I was traveling through an intersection for a green light my travel path. My vehicle was totaled, part of the total report attached indicated "diagnose airbags" as they didn't deploy. This is about my brand new Acadia. One of the seatbelt locks of the second row is missing. I did report the issue to the GMC local dealer and they’re to replace the missing lock, however, I was expecting to get GMC to take immediate action as this is a major safety concern. I have received no communication back from them yet. I’ve got the vehicle in tijuana mexico and typically drive it in both California USA and baja California mexico.

Passenger side seat belt does not buckle. The receiver piece for the buckle gets jammed and does not latch. My wife and I just had a baby and we are concerned about all the seat belts now, not sure if the others will give out as well.

The left outer seat belt cable broke when I tried to fasten it. I took to my dealership to have them inspect it. The only thing they seem to be concerned about was having to pay for the repair. I had it repaired it is the law in PA to wear a seat belt. I also contacted GMC but they didn't seem too concerned. I have the part that broke a the repair order and pictures.

I parked uphill on my driveway and put car in park to drop off groceries . My trunk didn’t not open which usually only happens when vehicle is in drive. I felt my car begin to move so I jumped in to discover dash said shift to park. This is major safety issue and happens quite often now. Under this circumstance vehicle can’t turn off. Had to replace battery for always draining. Also seatbelts in back seat and passenger seat do not buckle. There was a recall at one point however it disappeared from my dash board and now reads as completed however I never had the opportunity to correct the recall.

Seatbelt locks and does not release.

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the middle passenger’s seat belt failed to retract. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed that the seat belt mechanism needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

This complaint is not just about this particular vehicle. It's about all vehicles. Seat belts only have one latch. If that latch is damaged in an accident you are trapped. Over 60% of the people killed in auto accidents were not wearing a seatbelt. Why? because of the fear of being trapped. All first responders carry a seat belt cutter. There are a lot of seat belt cutters on the market today. That proves to me that a seat belt will trap you in a vehicle in its present design. In an accident the seat belt shoulder portion will tighten down. Under pressure, it will not release until you back off the pressure. Under certain circumstances you may not be able to back off the pressure which causes difficulty to release the belt. I have designed, manufactured, and installed a prototype of belt release in my vehicle. I call it my designated emergency seatbelt hinge. I have also filed for, and received a patent for my design. I believe all vehicles should have an d e s h installed. I don't understand why seat belts only have one release point.

The drivers seal belt latch broke due to an "internal failure".

The front passenger tire blew out causing me to run into the ditch. I was the only person in the vehicle but all the rear airbags deployed in the back but not in the front. The front seatbelts locked but not the back. . . .

Squeaking noise from the front end driver side just appeared while driving. Driver seatbelt will not latch on the first couple of tries.

I have experienced issues with the shifter of the vehicle twice now and it has resulted in replacing the shifter at least once. 6 months later and after an initial replacement the shifter has gone out again. The shifter refuses to move out of the park function. Prior to the shifter going out the car would say shift to park even though the car was already placed in park. I believe the issue to be an electrical problem. The middle seat belt in the second row of the vehicle has also stopped working.

Drives side seatbelt base release latch. Seatbelt will no longer latch. Seat belt was not pulled, occurred while car was in park.

Seat belt for driver does not secure. GMC states not covered under warranty leek in power steering. Known issue with GMC and no recalls.

Hello, I have a problem with the seat belt covers (2) coming off on the drive side middle seats. The GMC dealer says that they are not concerned about the issue. But I have 2 toddlers and no seat belt covers. This vehicle only as 30,000 miles on it. I bought it with 21,000 certified. This should be a big concern with any vehicle purchase. Seat belts are supposed to be sturdy and solid this is supposed to save our life if needed. I'm lost I see other complaints on line but no kinda of action is being taking. We need someone to help out the consumers. I ask the dealer if it's because of the way the seats retract and I got possibly but no help. It seems like GMC is not concerned about people's safety.

The vehicle was taken to schumacher Buick GMC of north palm beach (561-282-1957, located at 3720 northlake blvd ste c, lake park, FL 33403) where it was diagnosed that the sensor in the seat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000.

I have several things that has went wrong with my vehicle since I had bought it two months after I got it it was in the shop sometimes whenever I parked it would not restart brake lights will stay on I've had my check engine light come service brake light has came on I've had the middle seat belt replaced twice nothing stuck in it it just will not latch it is back in the shop now whenever I put it in park it is telling me to shift it into park I had my car for two years and with in the two years it has been in the shop 15 times so much for having a new car and in joying it.

My husband and I were in a very serious car accident and I'm concerned because our air bags did not deploy. We were traveling on a diagonal street in chicago and he was going straight. My right front fender hit his right front fender. His air bags deployed but ours did not. The er told me it was likely I hit the steering wheel and it could take up to nine months to heal from having whiplash in my shoulders and neck. My husband has been diagnosed as having a contusion. We hit really hard I was traveling about 25 mph and he was probably doing 45 mph. This is a real safety issue. My air bags may or may not have made the difference but I believe they should have deployed.

"takata recall" seat belts don't latch and when they do, they come unlatched or they brake. . Purge valve is malfunctioning. . Back set does not move latch broke. . . Leftgate sometimes does not latch or says it's not latched and opens. . My dash light says I need air all the time but I checked and I don't. .
