GMC C2500 owners have reported 3 problems related to hydraulic power assist steering system (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was driving my 2001 GMC hd pickup when I lost power steering and power brakes at the same time due to a shaft in the power steering pump breaking. The power steering and brakes are both driven by the same pump. The repair shop indicated this was not the first time they have seen this problem and the shaft was a "poor" design because it narrows at one end which is where they have seen them break in similar vehicles.

Diesel engine quit and it was only equipped with one fuse, and the fuse blew. This resulted in loss of power steering and brakes. . The consumer stated the power steering failed and when that failed it caused the vehicle to have no brakes.
