Automatic Transmission problems of the 2007 GMC Canyon

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that he was able to shift gears while the keys were in the ignition. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the ignition and gear shift and was informed about of the technical service bulletin on the transmission/trans-axle which informed owners that the gear shift would engage while the vehicle was turned off. The dealer also stated that the function was normal and that there was nothing to repair; however, the parking brake should be engaged. The contact stated that this function was very dangerous and could cause the vehicle to roll down a hill. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Canyon. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions and upon applying pressure to the accelerator pedal there was hesitation accompanied by no power. Suddenly, the transmission engaged and the driver was able to continue driving normally. The failures occurred when ever the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and the technician stated that the vehicle was operating normal. On two separate occasions the identical failure occurred and the computerized system was reprogrammed. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunctions. The contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 25,500. Updated 10/13/09. The dealer replaced the power control module.
