Less than 48 hours after a dealer oil change, my 2015 GMC Canyon experienced a power steering failure while making a right turn at a light. Stabilitrac/traction control failure also occurred with service notices and fault lights appearing on the dash. Vehicle had to be towed via flatbed to the dealership.
Vehicle was stopped at a stoplight when the instrument cluster started alerting that stabilitrack stability control needed to be serviced and power steering was disabled, as well as the traction control off light was illuminated in the instrument cluster. Turned vehicle off and restarted - power steering message reappeared but quickly went away and power steering function returned. The next day while driving < 30 mph on city streets the error messages and problems reappeared 4 or 5 times.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. While driving approximately 5 mph, the power steering and stabilitrak warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sutliff Buick GMC (169 w aaron dr, state college, PA 16803), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was restarted and the warning indicators dimmed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 44,680.
Power steering and stability control drop out while driving at any speed. Turning the vehicle off and cranking again will restore power steering. Sometimes this must be done 2 or 3 times to get power steering back. This is happening daily.
I was driving about 35 miles an hour when stabilitrac and loss of steering assist warning lights came on. Steering became extremely difficult and I veered into the oncoming lane while making a right hand turn to exit the main road. I was going to have the vehicle towed to the dealership, but the dealership service agent recommended turning the vehicle off and restart after 30 seconds. This worked, but I took it in to the dealer to have it checked. They found no fault codes. Five days later it happened again while on the interstate doing 70 mph. Fortunately, I only needed to make three turns to get to the dealership. The dealership replaced the power steering rack assembly at a cost of $1662. 01. I contacted gm to ask if the expense would be covered by recall 16v054000. I was assigned a case serial and after several inquiries, a senior gm representative stated it was not covered by the recall and it was a different module causing the recall. She offered a $100 voucher for future vehicle service and closed my case as dissatisfied. Regardless of the module, loss of steering is a life threatening hazard and the recall should be expanded. The vehicle had approximately 81,900 and 82,100 miles when this occurred.
Sudden total loss loss of electric power steering assist while driving on the interstate. Sudden total loss loss of stability control system while driving on the interstate.
2017 GMC Canyon. Consumer writes in regards to transmission issue. The consumer stated the dealer initially could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later left with the dealer to attempt to duplicate the failure. The power steering, traction control, and stability messages appeared.

My pickup has what gm refers to as "phantom shift". While traveling on i5 @ 70 miles per hr, my pickup thru no action on my part, shifted into 4 wheel drive. Previously this happened while turning left or right at slower speeds. Gm issued a "bulletin" in Feb. 2011 giving dealers instrutions on how to deal with, and repairs to fix this problem. A local dealer, using that bulletin, in December 2016 proceeded to "fix this problem with my vehicle. " charging me $849. 35. In July 2017 the same problem re-appeared. The local dealer (airport Chevrolet in medford, oregon) is now refusing to honor their warranty for their "fix in December claiming that becaust the computer in my vehicle is not "throwing any codes". Gm is demanding that I get a second opion at another dealer at my expense when the other dealer has already espressed an oral opion that they know they can't fix anything that doesn't "throw codes". According to info I have discovered on line, this problem has exhisted with this particular model pickup since 2004 and now, gm is refusing to cooperate with me. Please help.

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Canyon. While driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering and stability control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle began to jerk, the speed reduced, and the power steering failed. The contact had to turn off and restart the vehicle in order for the power steering and speed control to function correctly. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,300.
Passlock system this has been going on over the last three years and now getting worse and is intermittent, when I insert and turn the key something happens making the theft system activate and keeps the vehicle from starting for exactly 10 minutes. Recently I turned the truck off to save gas while I was in construction traffic at a stand still with a concrete barrier on both sides and the truck would not start and the police were going to have me towed, luckily at started at 10 minutes before the tow truck came. In my opinion this can be unsafe in emergency situations if the vehicle is needed for any type of emergency. Below I am pasting something from the web, but it is basically the problem that I and people all over the country are having. "thousands of people are being led in circles by any vehicle with a passlock ii system and it is an unsafe problem with these cars that needs to be fixed. It prevents vehicles from restarting in potentially dangerous areas while the vehicle resets and can permanently disable the car if not addressed. The problem lies in a design oversight and cutting a material cost by putting in a cheap component that any basic chemist could tell you would go bad within a year or two. Change your ignition switch contact from nickel to gold plated connectors and oxidation will not cause faulty readings to trick your vehicles into thinking that they are being stolen and shutting off the fuel pumps. Remuneration for individuals impacted by this financial burden for the purchase of your vehicles is also a request as this problem is a gold mine for car mechanics, both gm certified and freelance, to troubleshoot numerous systems before identifying the problem proper. Almost immediately after initial start of vehicle, shifted from park to reverse and while backing out of garage, a message appeared in the driver information center (dic) that read: "service, brake assist, dismiss" - a few minutes later received two emails from onstar which read: an issue with the antilock braking system in your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab has been detected. An issue with the stabilitrak® stability control system in your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab has been detected. Subsequently, visited selling dealership and they checked fuse in relation to TSB # pb-14669, NHTSA id # 10056603. Dealership found 30 amp fuse to already be in place. Cleared trouble code, but it has since displayed several times in the dic. Continue to receive several emails from onstar with subject line of "onstar vehicle health alert notification for your 2015 GMC Canyon crew cab" - onstar has advised that these are "false email alerts" and that general motors is working on a fix for this problem, but no update or fix is available at this time. No estimated date of resolution, and unknown exactly how serious this apparent safety issue might be.
While driving, the security light came on. Engine power was reduced or completely eliminated. Headlights went out every thing reset in about thirty seconds. Power loss could be deadly if entering a highway from a side street if there is oncoming traffic.
I am experiencing problems with this vehicle that are terrifying as it is putting my family in jeopardy. My first indication of a problem occurred in August 2013 and continued until may, 2014, the problem seemed to have fixed itself as I did not experience any more serious problems after may 2014 until October 2014. This leads me to believe the problem seems to have some connection to colder weather. The stalling problem is now occurring regularly and the error messages tend to disappear overnight before I can get to a dealer. I am keeping my driving to a bare minimum until a satisfactory solution is found. I do not want to spend more money on parts and “fixes” that do not resolve the problem. Problem: car suddenly reduces speed with numerous error messages running across the dash screen. I fortunately have been able to pull over to the side of the road as speed was very slow; the car begins to shudder and I have to shut down the engine. I noted the following error messages: reduced power, trac fault, ser stab, sist traction. After a few minutes I have been able to re-start the engine. When restarted all the error messages disappeared, but the check engine light stayed on. Various error messages: p0657 (dealer installed peddle position sensor 1/23/14 @ $229. 63); same problem occurred 2/19/14. P0615 (dealer installed throttle position sensor @ $100); same problem again occurred 3/13/14. I cannot afford to keep replacing “out of warranty” parts that do not correct this serious problem. Reduced power has occurred a number of times but the error messages disappear before I can get to a dealer. Since the dealers were not able to pin point the problem, I appealed to gm to advise how to proceed to resolve this serious problem before it results in a serious or fatal accident.
