With the vehicle in park and the steering locked and the key removed. Put the key in the ignition and it will not turn. So immediately you think the steering must be turned sharp either one way or the other and a little pressure or jiggle would loosen it. Nope. In fact, the wheels are pointing straight ahead. So next, one would think it must be the gear shifter safety witch must be the issue and a little jiggle of it should allow you to turn that key. Nope. So, let's get lots of help and have someone jiggle the wheel, while another jiggles the gear shifter and still another tries to turn the key. Nope. A brief search of the interwebs tells you this is a problem other have experienced. Not a problem you would expect on a new vehicle, but let's face it, gm is notorious for steering column issues. And the dealer wants a grand to fix itbut they don't know what the problem is either.

I had brought my Canyon in to get the steering rack replaced because of the power steering issue and the recall. I ended up having to drive my truck to the dealer without power steering when I got it fixed. Now that the steering rack has been replaced there's slack in my steering wheel while I'm driving. The dealer now says that I need to change my steering column because there's slack in the joints in the steering column that is causing the play in the steering wheel. There was no play in the steering prior to this no power steering event and it certainly seems that driving the truck without power steering caused this issue with the joints in the steering column that now they want to charge me $800 to fix. This repair should be covered since it's pretty apparent that the recall issue, driving without power steering, caused this issue as well.

Intermittent problem removing ignition key from ignition. Has been to dealer once. They replaced the safety lock switch for the center console gear selector. The lock switch in the steering column will not set, resulting in inability to remove the key. Key remains in accesory position and will eventually drain battery>.
