Front Seat Recliner problems of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Two problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 1996 GMC Jimmy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 10/05/1999

Rear ended by truck which propelled vehicle into back of camper. Thus a rear end collision, immediately followed by a front end collision. Both front seat backs broke causing the driver and passenger to be violently slammed into the back seat area. The driver (only)air bag did not deploy. The abs system failed upon application of the brakes, just prior to being rear ended by the tractor trailer truck which weighed 77,000 pounds and was going approximately 75mph. The truck driver admitted to the police that he never sloed down or applied his brakes.

2 Front Seat Recliner problem

The rear left side seat belt will not release from the belt buckle. When pressing the red release button, and the front passenger's seat moves back and forth when pressing on the accelerator or brake.
