3 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 01/05/2004

On January 5, 2004 I tried to stop my 2000 GMC Jimmy (SUV), instead of stopping, the Jimmy picked up speed and resulted in a three car crash. Two of the cars (my Jimmy and a 1995 Mercury) were totaled and the other car (a Honda runner SUV)had damage totaling $11,000. Althought I was driving 35 mph, when my car hit the car in front of it (the roasrunner), neither of the airbags in my Jimmy were deplyed. Luckily, no one was hurt in this accident. The mechanics at henderson chevy in las vegas informed me that the abs system failed miserably. As for the airbags, they did not have a clue. I contacted GMC and filed a formal complaint. Their investigators came to the dealer and authorized some work on the Jimmy so as to assess the damage and the reasons for the crash. As of this writing, I have not received any reports from GMC. I have tried, repeatedly, to contact GMC but no one would return my calls. I also demanded that the results of their investigation be sent to me in writing. This request was, also, ignored.

4 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 10/24/2002

The dealer knew about the defects to this vehicle and refused to fix them after receiving 3 separate estimates. 2 days after I repeatedly went back to the dealership to report these safety hazards the dealer continued to refuse to fix the problems and I had a car accident due to the defective vehicle. The dealer compliance board has a current case against the dealer and he has only agreed to take his vehicle back. The dealer has requested the damage from the motor vehicle accident not be fixed by the insurance company. The damage prior to the sale was so extensive from water or flood damage that the engine is completely ruined. It will not pass emissions. My fear is that the next unsuspecting consumer will be deceived by this dealer and this vehicle and I believe the next person will not be as lucky. I should be dead right now. The airbag never deployed and I believe it should have, which may also indicate that their is also something wrong with the airbag system. There may not even be an air bag in this vehicle even though it states there is one. This dealer will get this vehicle back and I am sure that instead of selling it as a salvage vehicle he will again slap a price tag on it and re-sell it immediately without fixing it. Dt.

5 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 11/11/2001

I purchased a 1999 GMC Jimmy for my daughter. All through the warranty period, there have been problems that still have not been fixed. The brakes have never worked properly, parts inside the vehicle have fallen off, the antenna has fallen off,the electrical system (heating and cooling) has not worked properly, the outside mirrors and windows have not worked properly, the electrical system has buzzed when the radio is on, there has always been a banging noise underneath the vehicle. The left front hub assembly was replaced-didn't correct the probelm-had it replaced again 2 weeks ago-same condition still exists. They finally found the lower and upper ball joints on the passenger side were coming apart-replaced them-but noise (loud sometimes) is still there. Have been taking this vehicle in for repairs since I bought it-have been without the vehicle over 30 days in the warranty perioid. Now-after breaking down twice again in the last 2 months (a condition I've been trying to have them fix since 11/01) due to no power when I press on the gas-it's going in again. It is 2 hours one-way to the dealer (silviera, healdsburg, CA) for me. I believe they have been trying-but I think this vehicle is really now, and has always been a lemon. The vehicle has only 50,000 miles on it, and it is not dependable (never has been). After all these times in for service-taking a day off work every time to get it to them, I've had it. My daughter (college student) who I bought the vehicle for (I wanted her to have something reliable for college), now uses my car-so she won't get stuck all the time. I am ready to put the lemon law into effect with this vehicle.

6 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 08/10/2001

(1)no events leading to failure. (2)on numerous ocassions while braking the brakes made a buzzing sound and the pedal went to the floor, losing braking power. This problem has almost caused a few major accidents. I've researched and discovered there is a recall on my vehicle for this problem but GMC dealerships says there is not. (3) not fixed, dealership says there is nothing wrong.

7 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 09/23/1999

Anti-lock brake unit went out. Dealer is quoting $1400 to fix. There are several anti-lock brake defects under investigation. This sounds like a recall item. There is only 56,000 miles on my vehicle and I don't feel that something like this should be going out that early.

8 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 08/08/1999

Driving north on hy 101 north of bay city , weather clear , road dry at 2:30 pm , new tires. P/u truck stopped dead in front of me to avoid an accident. I thought I had enough room to completly stop and applied my breaks with firm steady pressure but ran into the rear of the p/u. No damage to him but his trailer hitch and steel bumper damaged my front end. Contacted local GMC dealer and he said the GMC recall on the abs did not pertain to my vehical. I feel that maybe it should.

9 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 06/28/1999

I was charged with the accident but was not issued a summons. I believe the accident was due to the brakes.

10 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 05/27/1998

On 5/27/98, I was in a vehicle accident in which I rear ended another vehicle, which caused damage to both vehicles. The vehicle I hit was a total loss. At the time of the accident I was traveling approximately 40 mph and when I put on the brakes my vehicle slid three car lengths (leaving skid marks on the pavement) and stopped when I hit the car in front of me. The sliding was intense and the smoke so thick that I thought my vehicle engine was on fire. I felt at the time that the abs system had malfunctioned, and I mentioned this to the police officer at the scene. When I took the vehicle to the local GMC dealer for collision repairs, I asked them to check the brake system. They indicated that there were not any problems with the brakes. The reason I am filing this claim is because I am a very careful driver who has never been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Up to this point in time I had a perfect driving record. The police record indicates that I told the police officer that I was "unable to stop in time". This accident has tarnished my perfect driving record and as a result of this my insurance rates have increased. As a side note, I have had the dealer fix the 4 wheel drive switch (under warranty) on two occasions because the vehicle would not switch from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive.
