Air Bag Light On Problems of GMC Savana

The van is less than 3 years old but has well over 36,000 miles on it, so it is off warranty. The passanger seat is rarely used but the air bag light on the passanger side came on indicating air bag mal-function. The dealer wants $350 plus possible higher charge if difficulty arises in replacing the sensor. This is really a non-wear item.

The contact owns 2007 GMC savannah 3500. The contact stated that the passenger's side seat belt failed to lock when inserted into the buckle. The air bag light also illuminated continuously. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.

Purchased 2001 GMC savanna 2500 van on 3-31-05 ( no warranty); noticed "service engine soon" light and air bag light were on. Had van serviced on 4-6-05. Mechanic cleared up all problems except the scan tool could not communicate with the air bag module. When the mechanic started the engine back up, the engine was on for approx. 5 - 10 seconds, and the passenger side air bag went off! luckily no one was sitting there at the time.
