1 Power Train problem of the 2016 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 08/28/2025

6l80 transmission has failed @ 109,000 miles. At a stop light, in drive, vehicle would not move in drive or reverse. After switching back and forth transmission finally started to work and was able to limp to a dealership. Did not realize how big this issue is with this transmission until mine failed prematurely. I thank god that mine happened at a stop light and not when trying to accelerate at a say a stop sign where I need to cross multiple lanes of traffic. I would have been a sitting duck in the middle of oncoming traffic.

Have taken it to the GMC dealership over seven times with same issue. They refuse to fix problem due to not being able to replicate it. Losing steering and braking issue is getting worse. This is a large heavy truck and gm refuses to help fix. This is very disturbing. Has to be something in the drive train.

6 Power Train problem of the 2004 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The vehicle is out of warranty. However, it only has 63k plus miles on the odometer. The transmission suddenly became erratic. It would not shift to "d", but the second and the first gear works fine. We were told by GMC customer service to have it inspected and have it diagnosed by a GMC dealer to find out the exact cause of the problem. The results indicated no problems were detected or no codes were showing up on their computer, GMC then told us that it needs a new transmission. We could not afford a newly rebuilt transmission.

7 Power Train problem of the 1996 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 11/19/1996

While driving speedometer will get stuck at 15 mph/ 20mph then 30mph. When consumer gets to 60 mph they are not aware of the speedometer being stuck. Speedometer has to stay up with the traffic in order to know how fast the car is going, and to keep speed limits. Police has pulled consumer over on several occasions because consumer was unaware of how fast the car was traveling. Also, dealer changed the cluster unit. But in less than 24 hours the speedometer was sticking again.
