1 Wheel problem of the 2016 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

I test drove the vehicle I purchased in the penske parking lot. I was not able to take it to the freeway. Vehicle felt fine, engine looked good, rear tires were worn, but I was told they conformed to dot standards. After the purchase I started to drive it home. When I got on the freeway, I could not get the truck above 50 miles per hour with out severe vibrations. The truck also pulled to the right, it was obvious the truck needed a front end alignment. Penske gives a 15 day period when they will repair damage you have found. I arranged with alyse, the girl that works for penske sales in pennsylvania. She had me bring the truck to corona rental and repair center. I picked the truck up on the 15th of March and brought it to penske for repairs on the Friday, 19, March 2021. I called the following week, and talked to yeisen delgado, the sales rep where the truck was purchased from. He said the truck had been in an accident, and asked me if I was in an accident. I had not been in an accident, and denied it with vigor. I could see I was not going to get my truck repaired. I went to view the truck the next week, and was met by victor, the repair mechanic supervisor. He showed me the damage from the accident, I have many pictures. They had drawn an arrow indicating the damage. It was obvious the damage was al least 4 months old. I had possession of the truck for 4 or 5 days. I had a carfax report and it clearly said no accidents or damage reported. So, I purchased a truck that had been in an accident. I have been struggling with them to repair the truck. I believe they are fixing now. But, I have purchased a truck that was certified proven to be in good condition. I could not use it to drive my home furniture/goods the 1347 miles to my new home. Photo's show the rust on the rampaged parts are at least 4 months old.

2 Wheel problem of the 2018 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 11/21/2020

My 2018 van is an explorer conversion with 13000 miles on it. It was taken to GMC for repairs for what the tech is calling a "death wobble". Basically the van at unpredicted times gets into a rough shaking in the front end that forces you to stop. This happened while braking going down steep grades (5%+), also turning onto a sloped road and again just traveling on a hilly road without and use of brakes. Dealer found that 3 of the 4 rims which were installed by explorer conversion vans are warped or bent. The tire size installed is 20" which is different than the stock size of 16". The current tires are pirelli scorpion verde 265/50/r20. The van has only been driven on standard road and never collided with or ran over any object in the road. Unknown at this time if replacing the wheels will fix the issue due to issues obtaining replacements. Bigger concern is 3 out of 4 wheels failing under normal road conditions and use.

I notice flat spotting every morning and it could take 1/2 hr of driving to clear up been driving for over 60 yrs and have never experienced this before. I consider this to be a bad tire. If it has flat spots with 70psi and min. Load what will happen with full load. Returned to dealer but he fails to see a problem. I was parked 12hrs and problem appears each morning. I feel very uncomfortable with this tire on my truck.

4 Wheel problem of the 2017 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

I have purchased a conversion van that has been modified by an aftermarket upfitter but sold as new on a franchised GMC dealership lot. The van carries two placards with conflicting gvwr information. These vans are being modified in mass quantities. The rear springs have been changed to soften the ride but are inadequate to support the weight of a 3/4 ton van. The tires that are being installed on these vans for vanity reasons are not of the correct weight rating for a 3/4 ton van. We have had major issues with the tires failing and the rear springs bending. The conversion company, the GMC dealer, nor gm customer service wish to address these issues. Yet these vans continue to be sold in mass quantities on GMC and Chevrolet dealer lots as brand new vehicles. I am seeing many online complaints in forums and facebook groups from other owners with the same type of issues. I am genuinely concerned that someone is going to be injured eventually due to tire or spring failure. Also I have been having issues with the seat belts becoming completely unbolted from the seats. The fasteners used by the conversion company for the seat belts are also inadequate for today's standards. Please understand that my complaint is not in regard to the oem spec gm van. This complaint is related to a gm authorized upfitter that is taking brand new vans provided by gm, installing their parts, then selling them as new vehicles at gm dealerships. This conversion company (the explorer van company) also installs their products on Ford, mercedes, and possibly the ram vans as well. We have had three tire failures already because of this issue. Belle tire would not sell us a replacement tire because the size installed on the van is not rated properly and there is no tire manufacturer in the us that produces a tire in the proper size with the correct weight ratings.

8 Wheel problem of the 2003 GMC Savana

Failure Date: 06/23/2006

I have several 2003 GMC Savana cargo vans that are used as service vehicles for building maintenance. I have recently had three incidents where the outer section of the oem wheels (rims) have separated from the center spoke section along the weld lines that join the two. The wheels on the vehicles affected have been replaced and I have the others inspected for possible signs of failure. I have one of the wheels that split in my office. The most recent incident was 6/23/2006.
