The contact owns a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500. While stopping the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal clunking noise. The parking brake was engaged, but it failed to respond and caused the vehicle to move. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 204,206.
Parking brake did not hold allowing vehicle to roll away and strike parking barrier. Repairs were made totaling $434. 37 parts replaced were, rusting parking brake backing plates, parking brake shoes and related hardware.
