1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2018

Brake lines rusted out under drivers side cab. Truck stuck in driveway. Lucky it did not happen on highway will cost almost as mush as truck is worth to have all new brake lines installed.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Rusted out fuel lines. Had to replace all fuel lines. Rusted out brake lines. Brakes gave out while driving. Luckly no accident. Had to replace all brake lines.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2017

Lost all brakes on my 01' GMC Sierra 1500 sle 4x4 while braking on an off ramp, pedal went all the way to the floor. Brake lines appear to be completely rusted out, which doesn't make sense when I have a 5 year older Honda civic, with 110k more miles on it, and the brake likes do not look near as bad. Both spent their lives in minnesota / wisconsin. After doing some googling, it appears this is extremely common with 2000-2003 gm trucks. If this wasn't a manufacturing defect, wouldn't all uncoated brake lines rust out at similar rates, in the same conditions? mind boggling that gm is able to get away with not having to spend the cash to correct this problem. As if that money is worth more then the persons life.

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

Was on my way home, when I went to turn left onto my road. My brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I had to accelerate across a main road because a vehicle came up over the hill at me and I could not stop the truck. I coasted down a hill until the truck stopped rolling. When it was towed to a service station the mechanic noted a rusted out hole in my brake line. This is the 2nd time this has happened. The last time was in 2013. Yet the manufacturer does nothing to address this!!!!!!!.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

Brake line failure. I had complete brake line failure while coming to a stop at a busy road. I was lucky I was able to honk my horn and go through the light. I drive this truck almost every day and had this happened on my normal daily commute this could have been a disaster. It is ridiculous that stainless steel lines were not used on such a vital part of the vehicle. Now I am looking at a lot of money to replace all the lines. I do not have a bill to upload at this time as the repair work has not been completed yet.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2015

The brakes failed due to rusted out steel brake lines while driving.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

I reside in michigan and the winters here are somewhat bad on vehicles but this is in no way acceptable for gm to get away with. I was out of town on the 15th of Aug about 80 miles from home and preparing to make a right turn to enter onto the highway when the light turned yellow and the driver/car in front of me stopped suddenly and thankfully proceeded to turn hence getting out of my way because when I applied my brakes their was nothing right to the floorboard, I had known what just happened, ruptured a brake line. I proceeded to make the turn and somehow get the truck to stop while going down the on ramp of the highway. Here is my biggest problem with gm`s brake system. Why when 1 line ruptures all of the rest of the system does not work to at least get the vehicle to stop? once I was able to have a look under the vehicle I noticed all brake lines appear to be steel and in terrible condition, so next question, why are auto company`s allowed to use steel brake lines and not a corrosion proof stainless?? OH, wait to save money for bigger profits and ceo bonus`s. I just can`t believe in this day and age with technology we can`t have an abs system work to where 1 line goes you still have some brakes for the name of safety like on the old classics where each line is independent to each wheel. I`m just very lucky nobody was injured, could you imagine if I was on the highway and this happened at a higher speed??? unbelievable!!!!!.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

Brake line rusted into other lines are rusty also truck had been kept in garage for at least 6 years only drove on beach maybe 5 times always washed off afterwards. Lines should have been s/s.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2015

Brake peddle went to floor. Had to down shift and use emergency brakes to stop. Found brake line had corroded left front along chassis.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2015

Brake lines are so rusty they leak.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

On 11-29-2014, while driving home with my 2 sons, attempting to slow down to turn into our neighborhood, the brake pedal went to the floor with no resistance. This is the second time I have had a brake line burst due to exterior corrosion (rust). The first time a brake line burst in this truck was approximately 1 1/2 years ago. At that time, while driving with my 2 young sons, approaching a stop light, the brake pedal went to the floor with no resistance and I was, fortunately, able to immediately turn right, into a parking lot. At that time, I reported the issue online at some website, but I cannot recall the name of the site. This time I came to this website. I now have to have the truck towed, and have to have all rigid oem brake lines replaced, right here before christmas. This most recent incident, the rupture came from outside the frame rail, under the driverside seat. All oem rigid brake lines are severely rusted. The problem in the past (the first incident) came from the last 3 inches of the brake line going to the left rear wheel before it attaches to the flexible hose. Note that this truck has never been in the mud or sand, nor has it put any boats into the water. Also, it has never pulled/towed another vehicle. I definitely would not pull anything in this model of GMC truck without replacing all oem rigid brake lines.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Rear brake line burst and had no stopping power. Had to roll to a stop.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Got in truck started it, drove to the top of mile driveway applied brakes. The pedal went to the floor. I rolled into the road before I could apply the parking brake. An oncoming car had to brake, so as to avoid hitting me. I got the truck back in to the driveway and rode the park brake down the drive. Called a wrecker to tow to nearest garage. The brake lines ruptured in the different places, lost all brake fluid.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

Sudden rupture of brake line due to heavy corrosion. Rupture was evident along a seam in the brake line from the manufacturing process. Rupture greatly reduced the braking capacity. Rendered vehicle unsafe to drive.

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

Brake line failure. Was able to avoid a crash but all the brake lines are rusted from the outside. Always rinse undercarriage after driving on salt roads which isn't that often in chesterfield va. Should be a recall on these vehicles I know of 5 other persons that have had the same issue.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

Driving less than a half mile from home when I applied the brakes and experienced total failure without warning. Upon inspection brake lines were rusted and one failed. As I was removing to replace all of them due to the rust conditions, several of them were brittle enough to break upon manipulation.

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

My wife applied brakes to stop at a red light and pedal went to floor with no warning light and with the grace of god it stopped before we were t-boned in busy intersection. Amazing that gm can put stainless steel exhaust which by the way is still on the truck but not the brake lines!!!!!!!.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

Brake failure due to severely rusted brake line at driver side rear wheel. Rust is severe on all surfaces underneath vehicle. Will require complete replacement of all brake lines and other assorted brake components. Abs was malfunctioning prior to brake line rupture, likely due to corrosion within wheel/hub assembly. This malfunction is known to GMC, and occurs by the abs erroneously sensing wheel stoppage at low speed, causing the system to activate and inability to stop. This has caused near misses in parking lot situations, thus the abs has necessarily been disabled until repair (pulling fuse). Not the kind of issues a low mileage truck should be experiencing.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

The brake line that runs above the gas tank is leaking. I have no brake pressure. This has been a well documented general motors problem.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

After backing my truck into my driveway, I was reaching into the back seat while pressing on the brake pedal. All of a sudden my foot on the brake pedal went to the floor. Upon investigating I found that I had a hole in my rear driver side brake line. It was completely rusted out. Further investigating showed that all the brake lines are very rusty and in poor condition. I have repaired the ruptured line, but am fearful of another rupture. I believe that gm should be required to replace all the brake lines on this vehicle. Why does gm not use high quality stainless steel brake lines for all vehicles? all vehicle makers should be required to use high quality stainless steel for brake lines and brake components susceptible to rust.

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

At low speeds when a person hit the brakes the abs engages and the vehicle will not stop. All equipment is original and is not due to recall regarding aftermarket equipment. Local garage says this is a problem with corroded speed senser. My problem is I almost ran through my house the first time this happened. Another problem is the brake lines on these trucks corode and break without notice. This has nothing to do with previous paragraph as I replaced them and abs is still messed up. Chevrolets inferiour parts usage regarding brake lines cause them to burst prematurely. I also have several friends with identical trucks who all report the same problem. Both problems are ongoing problems. I fixed the brake lines but I had to remove the abs module to keep the abs from engaging and causing an accident.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

I was going through an intersection at about 30 mph when my brakes completely failed. I applied my parking brake and swerved onto a nearby lawn just missing a car in front of me. I had my vehicle towed to a mechanic, who told me the brake lines were all rusted through and there was no way they should have been this bad for a vehicle that was well-maintained. I subsequently investigated and found there have been numerous complaints about this problem. Why has nothing been done? my wife, daughter and I could have been killed. Why should gm be allowed to get away with this?.

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

Two things started to happen 1. The truck when coming to a stop of a speed of less then 25 mph started to lose its brakes and feel spongy. This continued until I got it in the shop which was about two days. 2. The truck started to run very rough and the engine light was coming on at the same time as well. After I got it in the shop and they got it up on a lift they found that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were all most rusted through and starting to leak. They had to replace all of the brake lines, fuel lines and since they had the fuel tank down they replaced the fuel pump because they found rust and dirt in the old pump. The shop mechanic said the lines were ready to fail at any moment. The chevy dealer I bought the truck off of just four months early had just inspected it and had seen the rusted lines and even repaired a piece of one of the fuel lines but left the rest go to fail down the road, they gave me little to no help. This is a huge problem, dangerous as well as very expensive one and needs looked into. Is there any help I can get for this problem??.

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2012

A second brake line ruptured as a result of rust corrosion causing the brakes to fail at 76,158 original miles. I narrowly avoided a rear end collision into another vehicle carrying a family with children. The vehicle was towed to a gm dealer where it was diagnosed. The cost estimate from the gm dealer to replace all of the rusted brake parts is $5,125. 00 this is the second incident of brake failure as a result of rusted out brake lines. The first incident occurred at 73,870 original miles. A call was made to GMC in an effort to seek assistance with the repair amount and they adamantly refused any assistance.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2011

Stopped in front of house and when almost stopped the brake pedal went to the floor and I had no brakes except for a very slight "drag". I stopped and looked under the truck and saw fluid coming from under the front of vehicle. It appeared to be brake fluid and it was traced to a metal brake running across the front frame member to the brake on the front passenger wheel. The line was extremely rusty and leaking profusely. Upon further inspection all metal brake lines are severely rusted and need replaced. I have seen many vehicles but none with this amount of rust on every part of all lines and the frame. This truck is 10 yrs old and is now unsafe to drive until all brake lines are replaced at substantial cost and effort. As you would expect I am not pleased but consider myself very lucky. I could have killed someone or myself. Please warn others this hazard exists.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 hd. The contact stated that the brake pedal was abnormally depressed into the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer diagnosed that four brake lines were rusted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 88,154.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Brake failure (loss of braking power and pedal went to floor). Caused by corroded steel brake line rupture. Inspection of brake lines showed extensive heavy rust, especially along the frame members.

28 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2011

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 hd sle which I lost my brakes while entering a intersection the other day brought it to a shop to have it looked at they informed me I have rotted brake lines at the abs module under the drivers side door. The mechanic showed me the rotted lines I took sometime to check the internet to see if there where others having this problem there seems to be thousands of similar complaints. Also the rear leaf springs shackles have rotted out.

29 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2011

The master cylindar brake line rusted through causing the brakes to fail. The truck was towed by aaa emergency service where the brake failure was diagnosed. The cost to replace the failed brake line was $270. 79 the rest of the under-carriage of the truck is badly rusted as well.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

Driving at approximately 35 mph, applied brakes when approaching a red light. Brake pedal went down to the floor, truck went into the intersection and finally came to a stop. There were no indication of problem before this occurred. Truck taken to a repair shop. All brake lines were rusted and were replaced. I requested that the service station save the rusted parts which are now in my garage.

31 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

2001 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 main brake line rupture from corrosion while driving in traffic.

32 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2010

Brake lines under driver's side door burst, spilling fluid in driveway while parking truck. Upon inspection, all brake lines have rusted/rotted. Truck is sitting in driveway, undriveable. Thank god it happened in driveway, not on hills we live on. Used e-brake to stop.

33 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

On 8/4/10, while moving in reverse in my driveway, my 2001 GMC sierra's brake line ruptured causing complete brake failure due to corrosion on the steel brake line. The vehicle is 10 years old and only has 29,000 miles on it. It was rarely driven in the winter when there was snow, ice or salt present. As of 9/5/10 the truck remains parked and the lines have not been replaced. When the failure happened, I conducted research to find this failure to be a pending investigation for a possible recall. Nhtsa action number : pe10010. I only want GMC to take responsibility for the cost of the repair or reimbursement for the cost of the repair that is caused by this defect. But I'm pretty sure a recall on 6. 3 million vehicles will not be issued with gm's ipo set to be released. So, I, the gm consumer, will have to wait.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while approaching a traffic stop signal at approximately 45 mph, the brake pedal was engaged but the vehicle failed to slow down and accelerated into a ditch. The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they state that the brake lines were fractured and the entire frame was corroded. The technician also stated that the brake lines fractured due to rust corrosion and recommended having the vehicle repaired at a collision center. Two months later, the vehicle was towed to a collision center where the contact was informed the damages were beyond repair. The failure mileage was 68,780.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

Corroded brake line on my 2001 GMC pick up truck. The repair shop said they have seen alot of this. I just read in the boston herald about this problem. I was going down a hill and the brake peddle went all the way to the floor and the truck did not stop. This repair was $350. 00.
